I said last week that the UWW defense was the best kept secret in D-3 football!  Well, I guess the cat is out of the bag!!!

I say the "cat" will be IN the bag this Saturday.

Oldpa, I did catch the irony of my cliche when I wrote it!!! ;D  Welcome back to the board!! You were missed!!

"I knew they were a very good team," Gagliardi said of UW-Whitewater. "I just didn't know they were that damn good."

Congrats WW..

I j ust returned home, and had to congratulate the posters, program, etc.

WW is the real deal.  I have never been so frustrated listening to a game in my life.....

Like someone from WW posted earlier in the week, turnovers were going to be the key, and they were....

Huge momentum shift when Jopp fumbled on the WW 10 in the 1st 1/2.

Zauhar did not have a good game at all, and that is not the way he wanted to go out.  My guess is he wasn't 100%, but from the way it sounded, Stanley was running free all game!

Good luck next week against the Cats!

Again, Congrats to the Warhawks. However, I too saw the same game that Badgerwarhawk saw, but thought that maybe two of the fumbles were caused by defensive play. Just the opposite of his obsevation. The Diop fumble was close to, if not actually caused as he hit the ground, i. e. he may have been down. I also agree that the St John' S team yesterday would not have finished in the top tier of the WIAC. That team, however, was not the St John 'S team that played the other 11 games this season. To believe otherwise is delusional.

Also the "Season's Over" and "Na Na, Hey Hey Goodbye" chants are unnecessary and say more about you than the opposition, Take more joy in your success than in the failure of others.

All that being said, even if SJU would have played their normal minimal mistake game, I'm not sure it would have been enough. Good Luck next week, and beyond if that is in the cards.

One question that was asked to me after seeing the enrollment at UWW, and also other WIAC schools. Is there a limit on the enrollment in order to qualify as a D III school? The person who asked alluded to the fact that in most states the Division for High School is determined by size. I never thought so, but I couldn't give a definitive answer.

Congratulations to the Warhawks.  As this team progresses in unchartered water in their football program, yesterday's win was a HUGE step in a positive direction.  To the Johnnie fans that made the long trek to Whitewater, you were great.  I had a chance to talk to Johnnie Red and several Johnnie backers early in the day while the stadium crew was getting the playing field in ideal condition following nearly 3 inches of snow on Friday night.  You guys are awsome. The passion for your football program is outstanding.

In reference to retagent  comment in relation to the Warhawk student section chanting (or singing) the old standards "Season's Over" and "Na Na, Hey Hey Goodbye" in the final moments of yesterday's game.  Come on!!  Whitewater's staff and fans, in my mind, were very hospitable the whole weekend. I sure don't think that "Season's Over" and "Na Na, Hey Hey Goodbye" should tarnish what was a very memorable day for Warhawk fans in what UWW coach Bob Berezowitz calls "the greatest win in Warhawk football history."

No. That's high school stuff. Since student-athletes are recruited to schools to play sports and not drawn from the student body as walk-ons, it's not necessary to delineate schools by size.

That's why Division III schools are as small as Menlo (less than 600) and as large as New York University (more than 10,000).

Voice,
I am with you regarding the chants of season over and Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye. Thats what colleghe students do, they make fuN of the visiting team.
Retangant
This is not high school. I would say that those chants are uncalled for in high school sports.
Hopwever this is the division three playoffs, and this college, and I can honestly say that I have seen and have heard worse things said and done to visiting teams and their fans at the college level.
Good job warhawks. Know go take care of buisness in Oregon.

Congrats Warhawks. I've never been on a more disappointing road trip. Ow. We completely failed to show up and you didn't let us get away with it. I've never seen the Js play so poorly before, something I attribute equally to our team deciding to suck and your team doing quite the opposite. I'm a proud Johnnie fan and I like to think that 9 times out of 10 you're not going to MonkeyStomp us, but your team would probably beat us more than we'd beat you. I was impressed. Congrats on the great game. Next week will be quite the purple match-up.
Nice day, huh?

I agree with the WW posters....  Chanting, ribbing, et. al is part of the college game.

I recall our Johnnie faithful chanting, "Warm up the Bus" and some a bit more "colorful" over the years.

I agree.  While DIII schools don't give football scholarships, there are "walk-ons" and "walk-ons."  In some schools, "walk-ons" are there only by invitation,  and "walk-ons" drawn from the student body may not get a chance to suit up or be given serious consideration except to play with the scout team, carry the blocking dummies, etc.

Especially since the WIAC limits its conference teams to a 100-man football roster. There isn't room on the roster for guys to hang posters in the dorm and invite all comers.

Read earlier from a post and did see the Quote in an article I read--"the greatest win in Warhawk History" by your coach. Wow not much of a history for Whitewater football. SJU lost the game yesterday--WW did not win it. Let me know when you win your 1st National Title!!!  Won't be this year.
