Warhawk - one of the fun things about the game is the "tailgate" the night before in the team hotel.  I would be surprised if your boosters/alumnae don't have something there on Friday night.

We "LOOSERS" at Mount have a great time at the team hotel on Friday night.  LK usually tries to stop in and say a few words, and it's generally a reconnect for all the Mount faithful.

Other than that, there are some cool bars in downtown Roanoke, but it's all what you want.

Saturday in the parking lot is one fun time.  The Salem folks put on a decent show.  There is a rock/top 40 band playing, and plenty going on.  Tailgates are happening everywhere, and the rivalry, back and forth is usually very good natured, and great fun.

Enjoy your first trip.  It's a blast.

Man would some of you learn how to spell. Loser.... not looser or loose. Loose=not tight Everywhere I go people all the same spelling loser with two o's.

does anyone know of any good watering holes in Salem...  Gonna need something to do before the game..

Go to Mac and Bob's in Salem.  It's near the field.  All the Pointer fans, and other basketball fans hung out there Friday and Saturday nights after the games during the basketball Final Four the last two years.  It's a nice place with good food, drinks, televisions, lots of seating etc.  I definitely suggest that as the Warhawk hangout as well.

Also, we were allowed to tailgate in the parking lot.  I wrote the officials there and they said tailgating is allowed, though you should just hide your beer if anyone comes snooping around.  Technically, it's illegal to have open containers (beer etc) in public, but they really don't enforce it unless you really make a scene.

Just some suggestions.

Also, is there a bus going out there?  Are there people driving out there at all?  I have a Whitewater alumnus that may be looking for a riding partner.  Please email me.

Bluenote,

We have proven we know how to get to The Stagg Bowl. That's all.

Your fantasy is thinking you were in Salem last week.

No "blowhard" here. Just stating a fact.

Will you ever deal with the facts?

Resting on our laurels ......11 STRAIGHT appearances in the semi-finals of the D3 tournament and 8 of those lead to the Stagg Bowl. That does include the present year. I'll rest on those facts.
No fantasy here.

I guess that means what Linfield did last year now means nothing too? Since that is the past. Can you deal with that?

Name calling now we have hit a new low
Is that necessary?.

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Anyone looking for rider to share expenses/driving to Salem this weekend. Just thought I would give it a shot.

hey raiderguy,

do you think that if MUC was in the west they would have gotten to the stagg bowl? i think it would have been much tougher to go through Linfield, WW, and SJU. i gotta say, i have bluenote's back on this one. if MUC wins then i will give em credit for being best, but if they lose, they wont be higher than 3rd in my book. i liked the proposition someone put out of switching whitewater to mt union's bracket so we could have seen WW and MUC to go up against Linfield in the Stagg Bowl. thats just my opinion though.

CaptainKurt

I think we've all heard the theory that "If we don't learn our history, then we are condemned to repeat it."  Well that's probably true in most areas of life, other than football.

I'm sure that UWW has forgotten all about their victory over Linfield two weeks just as Mount Union has forgotten all about their loss to Ohio Northern earlier this season.  Those games do not matter at this point in time.  What does matter is what is current : who is healthier, who will have a better game plan this week, who will have a better week of preparation, etc.  The past can't help us too much right now.

The strength of the WIAC or the 11 straight semi-final apperances are not relevant at this time.  I can't wait until someone posts something like "In all-time Stagg Bowl games between two teams wearing purple, whom both are from east of the Mississippi River, where one of the teams is a private college and the other is a public university and is coached by an alumnis, the all-time record is 2 - 1 in favor of the public university.  Therefore Whitewater has to win according to this stat because the numbers don't lie."

Whatever.  Here's looking to a great game.  End of story.

bluenote

raiderguy...enjoy the festiivities and good luck to both teams. It should be a heck of a game! I'm just bummed we aren't there so I thought I'd stir it up a little...  ;D

There's always next year!

Just wanted to say congrats to UW-Whitewater for making it to The Stagg Bowl.  Here's looking to a great game that is safe for both teams and their fans.

I interrupt this trash-talking to bring you a few of my thoughts from the game last Saturday:

Wesley deserves congratulations for making it to the national semifinals, but, quite honestly, they were COMPLETELY overmatched by the Warhawks.  I know the field conditions were not ideal but I actually think UW-Whitewater wins by more if the weather was sunny and warm.  UWW had a couple dropped passes that would have been sure TDs.  It looked like Beaver could have had 400 yards rushing if the UWW staff had wanted him to.  Just complete domination.

I was impressed with the crowd support.  I guess having school in session still helps. :)

There is still WAY too much canned music from the PA system, but I suppose I'm just old and out of touch with today's college student.

So, I saw the Warhawks defeat St. John's and Wesley.  Unfortunately, I missed the "D3 game of the year" against my alma mater Linfield.  I know that this subject has been beaten to death, but it's a shame that the West region was completely stacked this year.  I think the 2 best teams met in McMinnville on December 3.  When the Warhawks monkeystomp Mt. Union next Saturday, I hope the NCAA committee takes notice.

OK, for one more week.......WARHAWKS! WARHAWKS! WARHAWKS!

wildcatinwi, did you happen to lose $100 to a local liquor store owner on the Linfield/WW game?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Nope!  It weren't me.  100 bucks!  That's WAYYYYY out of my league.  I'm still poor from paying off my Linfield edumacation!  :-[

There must be another Linfield grad in the Janesville area who is a BIG fan. Just thought it might have been you.

Do you even know when the last time Mount Union was Monkey Stomped (I assume that this means a win by more than 20 points)?

The last time someone thought they would Monkey Stomp MUC was Rowan I think in 93.  We all know how that one turned out.

As for crying about the seedings and the draw for the tournament quit your bitchin everyone.  Just be glad we have a real playoff.  The goal isn't to see who are the best 4 or 8 teams it is to see who is the best 1.  Nothing else matters.  No one rememebrs who was second or lost in the semifinals for that matter.  I recall a year when MUC's bracket had 5 of the top 8 in the country in it.  I didn't hear a peep of complaint.  If you want to be the best you have to beat the best.  (After all the motion to just give MUC a bye until the Stagg never made it out of committee I guess).

A big congrats to the Warhawks on a outstanding season.  This seem to be playing as one unit, with one goal.  Enjoy the trip to Salem and while it is about business, make sure you enjoy all the Stagg Bowl hoopla too.

You earned all of your success and keep the Walnut and Bronze out in the West.
