Congrats on a great season Warhawks!!! It was really a phenominal game, and will be one of the most memorable Stagg games for quite a while. You're a great group , we had a excellent time meeting a number of you throughout the tailgate time. With all the young talent you have and getting to the "BIG SHOW" I'm sure you'll be back in the the thick of it again next season!! Congrats again, on a fine run!

Skunks,

I'm not a partisan of either side, but if LK was not sweatin' blood with 7 minutes left, he ain't human!  Not a competitive game??!!

With due respect to Capital, I predict the final standings will be:

1. MUC
2. WWW
3. Linfield
4,5 Rowan, Capital (either order)
6,7,8 SJU, UMHB, Wesley (whatever order)
9. ONU (they were the only team to beat MUC)

Looks good:  put Cap over Rowan (both losses to Mount)

Pretty classy...OUCH! ::)

Uh, no.  The "classy" behavior came from the WWW fans that where chanting "F-U', "F-U', "F-U", to the Mount players coming onto the field for the pre-game warm-ups.  Classy all the way!  If, and it's a huge "IF", but if you ever get back to Virginia, please act like you've been there before and show some respect!

And for all those pissing and moaning for the last month that the NCAA was so unfair to the West Region by forcing the 2 best teams to play in the Region Final and how unfortunate it was that the entire nation didn't get to see the great 3 point win over Linfield.....  Do you still feel that way now?  I will give you credit for one thing though, you had the right weekend in mind.  The best game of the tournament versus the best 2 teams was played in the Regional Finals.  You just thought it was played in Oregon instead of Ohio.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Skunks, how can you put Capital as a #2 when they weren't even in the Nat'l title game?  7 point difference (1 TD) between the Nat'l Champ and runner up is a great game.  The game was exciting,  back and forth, good scores, great hits, etc.  the two best teams in the Nation were competing, therefore I think to put UWW anywhere below #2 is WRONG.
Pat, I agree  you, Pat Coleman, Gordon, etc. should be doing the TV and then get one of the D-3 crews to do the radio.  But then you get into discussions about $$$ and Politics which I try to avoid.
All in all, this weekend was a lot of fun and a great showing from the Hawks.. wish you guys would have come out on top.

79Jay - my comments are somewhat tongue in cheek due to most of the Linfield faithful claiming that once WW smoked the Raiders then it would prove the best two teams played in Oregon two weeks ago.   ::)

Quite honestly, it was clearly evident how much explosive capability WW had on offense.  As stocky as the Beave is, he has a burst that is almost scary.  And Stanley has speed rarely seen at this level.  There were some Mount fans sitting behind me that kept complaining about how far Watson was playing off Stanley.  I finally turned around and said..."you want them to get six now, or at least have to earn it".  WW's weakness was at quarterback.  The kid has a big arm, but made poor decisions when pressured, and just flat out missed open receivers.  Also, WW's D was good, but not great.  Both Rowan's, and CAP's D seemed to play Mount a bit better.

It's foolish to assume any team will automatically be in the Stagg Bowl any given year (see Linfield '05, Mount '04), but some team is going to have to play extremely well to beat either of these teams next year with what both have returning.

Oh, and I will say it again.  Tradition and experience DO matter.  The Mount kids saw all the former players rally around them this past play-off run.  The seniors did not want the season to end with a loss, because they remembered what '04, and '03 felt like.

For now, based on HISTORY, the Stagg Bowl belongs to Mount Union.

Congrats UWW fans and team on  a truly great run.  I must say, I had to leave home yesterday at the end of the third quarter and I assumed you guys were finished at that point.  But it looks like I missed a valiant attempt at a comeback and I wish I could have seen it.  I see one big difference between MU and UWW this year and here it is:  MUC---a lot of upper classman (almost entire D was Srs).  UWW---young players most of who will be back next year.  I look forward to seeing more of the Warhawks next years and only hope that the Wildcats can reload and meet you guys again in the playoffs!!!!  Great season, good game, great team!   :)

Great season Warhawks. You did the WIAC proud!

All the Devils fans I know were rooting for you.

With all that talent coming back, your fans have a lot to look forward to.

'Er, would you mind playing in a different conference next year?   ;)

Congrats to BlueDevil Joe Seep for having a nice game in the Aztec Bowl yesterday.

Pat, it seems weird to me that the Stagg bowl and the Aztec Bowl were played at the exact same time. What happened to the Aztec Bowl being played at night.  ???

Not going to say "I told you so", but "I told you so" ::) Everyone thoght I was nuts when I said that MUC would "come to play", and that experience has nothing to do with winning. I'll give WW all the credit in the world for a valiat come back attempt, but have they been down by 21 any other time this year? Kinda messes with you mind. I never said MUC would win, just that they would be ready and it would not be a WW blow out, so smite me if you must for being right. Good luck to the Hawks next year and it wouldn't suprise me to see them #2 or even #1 in the preseason polls. Hope to meet you again next yr, only in Collegeville. Congrats on your season and even though 2nd place sucks(as it did '00) you still have a great deal to be proud of and more to look forward to. ;D

At least the announcers were much better than last year's game... those two were brutal... Pam Ward and Mike Thomzak (sp)... at least both of the announcers had played football sometime in their life....

mike tomczak was a qb at ohio state, with the chicago bears, pittsburgh steelers, etc for probably 10 yrs. he isn't a great announcer but he definately knows something about football.

I liked the broadcast team. they weren't hugely informed but bill curry is a great man and fun to listen to. that said, it would be a great thing if they could pick a d3 team to announce the stagg.

The Aztec Bowl is scheduled at the discretion of Mexico's football federation, which chooses date and time. We (as in D-III or the AFCA) have no control.

Mr. Ypsi

After this year's stomping, they may schedule it to coincide with the FIRST playoff round - keep ALL the playoff players out instead of just the finalists! ;)

skunks, I see and understand the comment now.  I thought the UWW Linfield game was tremendous as I was tuned into the livestream hungry for the updates.  Both teams earned their way through the playoffs and  proved that they belong there.  I wish we could start the season up tomorrow.  It's a long waiting period until August to restart.
What did they do ( in terms of end of season/champions) prior to the 1973 Stagg Bowl and organized playoff formats?

Just on the computer after the long, long ride home so I haven't gone back and read the upteen pages of comments regarding the game and don't know what you all thought.

But I have a few thoughts and some time to express them...

1.  Congrats to Mount Union.  Much of the difficulty we had was directly related to their play.  They're the "gold standard" of D3 football and deservingly are taking the championship trophy home on their plane.

2.  No one will ever convince me Pete Schmidt's play wasn't a catch and touchdown so don't even try ;D

3. From a WARHAWK[/color] fan's perspective it was a game of missed opportunities.  We score the first time and then take the ball into their territory eight straight times and get nothing.  No one else has done that to us all season so you have to give them credit.  We just didn't make plays we'd made all year and that was the game.  The hole was too deep and they were too good.

4.  My daughter told me ESPN2 acknowledged Beaver breaking the all time rushing record (D3) but had a MU logo beside his photo.  grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..........

5.  Salem did a great job.  That's a very nice venue and they go all out in hosting the event.

6.  I'll never travel that far again without flying.  My hotel wasn't within walking distance of anything in Roanoke and I had to rent a car anyway.

7.  It was a fantastic season, came up a game short, but fantastic none the less.  The best in my 38 years of following the team.  We don't have a championship to remember but there are a million positives about this season and it was something very special for the staff, players, fans and everyone else associated with the program.   We'd like to think that we can make it happen again but until, and if, that time comes you have to appreciate how very special this season was.  Well, I guess you have to appreciate it after that too but you know what I mean.

8.  It's going to be a long wait for next year's season to start.  Luckily I can finally focus my attention on hoops.
