The guy makes some pretty broad generalizations about DIII football from a very limited experience which tends to make me discount most all of what he says.  Not only that but my experience tells me he's so far out in left field he will need a ticket to re-enter.  Someone who characterizes the Stagg Bowl as "Pop Werner" level competition in which "anyone" can play has obviously never watched the game.  That or has no perceptive abilities what-so-ever.

I wonder what axe he's grinding.

Had he seen the WIAC year-in and year-out, and the 'Hawks in particular this year, he'd know what D3 football is all about... Oh well, his loss...

Didn't allow my post on their paper's site, since I touched a nerve by commenting on what his school's j-school program must be like. Ha. And you may be on to something; he may have an axe to grind that we don't know about???

But I will be going there after I post here, to retry with another attempt - to make the analogy that his assessing D3 based on one team's lousy season or two, or whatever the case may be, would be like judging the NFL based on the Houston Texan's 2-14 season this year...

According to John  O'Grady, Falcon coach, there is an agreement over the phone between SJU and RF to open the season on Sept. 2 at Collegeville. No contract has been signed, but one is to be sent to UWRF.  That would mean that EC and RF might switch dates to play the Johnnies on Sept. 9. EC has contacted RF about such a switch.

fred..Hope the deal with RF, EC and the Johnnies works out.  How are things shaping up for RF in 06?

Todd Hoffner has stepped down at UWEC in order to join former rival Ed Meierkort as O-coordinator at South Dakota.  Johnnie fans sigh and say, "So that's how you spell relief."

I was surprised that they allowed my comments.  It tok almost a whole day before I got the news that it would be posted.  I like the analogy with Houston.  Maybe that'll work!!

KK--RF brings back something like 16-18 of the top 22 players, not enuf to make them the favorites to beat the Johnnies, but enuf to allow them to move up a notch or two in the conference.

Considering Coach Hoffner reported for duty tonight to man the scene at the UWEC women's hockey game, I thought you were kidding, or just teasing our SJU friends... But you are correct. Wow.

Will be interesting to see the candidates, and what kind of offensive scheme will be brought in...

Coach Hoffner says he thinks he's leaving the program in better shape than when he got here.  I agree. I think he's done a good job here...

KennethK

Two good WIAC teams to start the season at Collegeville.  Mighty exciting stuff with all the higher seed implications for later in the season.  Always thought Hoffner was an outstanding coach..is one of his assistants likely to move up?  What kind of a run offense does RF use with Anderson?

wiacfan

I think D-Coordinator Mark Sipple will get a good look at the head coach position.  He's a UWEC alumni, DC for 4 years as well as DC for 4 years at Wisconsin Lutheran.

Question is does Menomonie's Joe LaBuda have any interest?  He was a finalist for this position 7 years ago, as well offered the Stout job 2 years ago (which he turned down).  He doesn't have anything to prove in HS football (188-26; 5 State Championships) in Wisconsin, maybe time to try his schemes at the collegiate level.

I think they'll get a very good pool of candidates to chose from!

Having worked with Hoff for three years, I wish him nothing but the best at South Dakota.  He's a great coach and even a better person.

KennethK

Didn't EC lead the WIAC in All-Conference picks with many of those players graduating?  One would think EC will be in a bit of rebuilding year.

The Blugolds will just be reloading, my friend, just reloading. Ha. Yes, they lead the WIAC in all-conference selections, with 15; seven were seniors...

But no, they will be rebuilding a bit on offense; they have some shoes to fill - the entire backfield graduates: quarterback Jesse Krzyzanowski, running back Joe Gast, and fullback Mike Hennessey. They were all second team selections.

Jesse's brother, Darin, a WR, also graduates. Most of the offensive line will be back, however. So, it will be interesting to see how the highly-efficient Blugold offense will be revamped...

Defense will return most of the starters. That will likely be the team's strength, I'm guessing. But who knows? But they will miss Derek Sikora. He was fun to watch, and exemplifies what D3 football is all about...

Since we're speculating about Hoffner's successor, how has his one-time D-coordinator Todd Glaser done as HC at Marietta?

Word is Labuda is going to apply for the job.....in my mind that would be hard for UWEC to turn down he would have so many connections throughout the area and the state and he is a flat out winner....I think they will be a middle of the pack team next year but in coming years I expect them to work their way back to the top.......In EC we usually seem to have a pretty good QB Rassmusen,Hendricksen, and Kryz so I doubt we will be hurting their next year, I expect Kyle Paulson a 6'4 180 sophmore to be from Amery,WI to take the job over

Congratulations to Coach Hoffner on his new position and congratulations to USD on their great new hire!  I was born and raised in South Dakota and I am an alumnus of USD so I can safely say that he will hate the winters, (can be tougher than Wisconsin,) and love the dome stadium!!!    ;D ;D
