Cpt. Kurt,
Pagel worked out extremely hard while in college and made himself in to the player he is. Nice to see the WW players are getting worked out. I personally feel that there are quite a few WIAC players that could make an impact with the Badgers but they do not recruit very well in state.

janesvilleflash

I disagree with the Badgers not recruiting well in Wi. I think they do very well. I do agree that some WIAC players WORK themselves to a point where they could compete on the level the Badgers do, especially the 3 sport highschoolers. Unless you are extra special, you almost have to specialize on one sport in highschool to have much of a chance at D1.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

The New York Jets were also in Menomonie on Friday.  RB Ryan Englebert ran a blazing 4.30 40 yard dash and WR Jesse Wendt ran a blistering 4.28 40 yard dash.  Not too shaby for the boys up in Menomonie. :)

Capt. Kurt,

I agree,,,the Badgers don't do very well in the state, I think cause they don't usually recruit state kids unless there linemen...they seldom go after a skilled state player...seems like they like the out-of-state kids (that find the Wisconsin Courts more often then the end-zone)  except for Callhaun,  to bad he entered the draft!!  Their some WIAC kids good enough to play at Camp Randall....

I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Actually the Jets looked at 4 players.....TREY BELL, JACOBS, SCHMITT, and STANLEY.....All did well...

Yes, all did well, but when a pro scout comes up to a guy and says "put on 15 pounds and you're in the show" I think that's doing VERY well. That's why I only pointed out D-Stan.

Well, it looks like there is atleast  one CCIW team with some balls.  Milliken has posted their 2006 schedule and will play Ohio Northern in a nonconference game on September 9th.  Good for them!!    8) 8) 8)

footballfan413

When does spring ball start and what are the limitations?  That was a new NCAA rule last year, wasn't it?  Allowing D-3 to conduct 15 days of spring practice? ??? ???

79jaybird

footballfan413  that's a pretty bold statement.  Certainly there are some CCIW schools that play cream puffs in the non conf. however there are many quality teams that play CCIW competition also.

I would like to see more challenges in the CCIW as a whole, but to make a statement like that is rather odd.

ref: Spring practice

From Voice's warhawkfootball.com website...

The Warhawk football team will open 2006 with limited on-field skill instruction on Wednesday, April 5th. The squad will have 13 sessions scheduled during a five-week period for offensive and defensive alignments, along with passing, catching and kicking drills. Sessions will be held on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday's with the final day set for May 6th.

This will be the second year that NCAA Division III teams are allowed on-field instruction with coaches in the spring. While the higher NCAA divisions are allowed full contact practice in full pads, Division III teams are not allowed to practice in pads during spring drills. Each of the sessions will last 90 minutes according to Warhawk Head Coach Bob Berezowitz.

No real offense meant.  Just giving Millikin props for being willing to take on a D-3 top 20 team.  The CCIW does have a rep with some of not being willing to play teams from the WIAC (atleast the top level teams) despite good geographic proximity to each other.  But IWU being willing to play UWEC qualifies I guess.

Thanks, BW.  +Karma for you.   I wonder how many teams are taking advantage of this new rule?  It appears from the MIAC board that SJU may not be holding any spring practices.  Their coach doesn't believe in requiring official off-season workouts but this could be considered not "off season" with this new ruling.

I suspect SJU's practice (i.e., no spring practice) is the rule, not the exception, for D3 teams.  But since I don't know for sure, does anyone know if spring practice has caught on?
