Hey LAX fans, the South Dakota State U folks have a thread up about you at

http://www.sdsufans.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1155655045

What is the outlook from you guys on this game?  Is it a good thing, or not?

stoutguy--glad to see you're still alive! Had not seen anything from u for a while, but I've been absent all summer too. Anyway, thanks for the info. He may be just the kind of guy who can make it at RF. We've had plenty others who fit that description who ended up sticking it out and finally playing during their last year or two.

And actually, from your golf game, that description you gave could have been of you! (I'd put a smiley face here, but I aint no techno geek like bw.)

As far as the beer goes, I've offered many a time the past few years when u guys are in town, but u always go back on the bus. That's the penalty for being a media star.

Yes, the new AD is getting it going on the upgrade, along with the new chancellor. I hope we have  something to show next season, but it probably won't happen that fast.

This year will be much more difficult for the Warhawks even though on paper they will be better and have a great recruiting class coming in with a couple of real good transfers. If they win the WIAC and get to the Stagg Bowl again and lose---- it will be an unsuccessful season and that would be too bad.....last year 14-1 was awesome(take it from me I was at every game) but this year it will be a downer.....It is all or nothing in 2006 and that is a pressure-packed position to be in
Sakman1111, I am not sure what your talking about in regards to a pressure packed season. Mount Union has had a target on their back for a decade know maybe longer I am not sure when they started showing up in the stagg bowl year after year.
However evry year except 2004 when they didn't make it they continue to get top the stagg bowl.
Like I have the one thing that worries me about the Warhawks is the mid october trip to Texas. Non conference games are suppose to be played at the beginng of the year not in the middle of what should be and normally always is a heated WIAC title hunt.
I also want to apologize about all this talk about Mount Union on the WIAC board. However after watching them play Whitewater 3 times Lacrosse once and Carthage once. They are the most impressive division three team I have ever seen. They are not very flashy however they get the job done.

Bisondad:  I haven't had a chance to learn much about the UWL team yet, but I am pessimistic about a win in Brookings. I attended last year's game, and the Eagles were totally outclassed in the lne on both sides of the ball. I believe we gained less 2 yds/carry, while they gained over 8 per carry. Only a top-notch D3 line will be able to make it a game if the hosts are as good as last year. I hope to be surprised, but expect a rough night against a team in transition to D1.

What do you guys think about playing a D-I team for non conference?  Seems like an awful lot to bite off, especially with WIAC being a tough conference already.  I wonder what the football people at LAX are thinking......Doesn't make much sense to me.

janesvilleflash

WIAC non conf. games are hard to get, sometimes you might have to take games you'd rather not just to fill up the schedule.

This is a pretty common occurence in the WIAC.  WIAC teams have a very difficult time scheduling other D-III opponents.  There's a laundry list of reasons (some legitimate, some not), but I don't need to rile up that debate again.

So, consequently if the choices are play a D-I or D-II team or don't play at all, most WIAC schools opt for the game.  Drake, Butler, Concordia-St. Paul, Bemidji State, South Dakota State, UM-Duluth, Chadron State, Augustana (SD) have all appeared on WIAC schedules in recent years.

It's not ideal, but it certainly gives the WIAC schools some great competition to prepare for the conference schedule.

I tip my hat to the Eagles.  Nobody in D-III wants to play them.  Hell, other teams in the WIAC don't want to play them.  The Eagles are tough as nails every year.  That program has major balls in my opinion.  Although I am a Whitewater fan and alumni, I respect the hell out of that La Crosse program.  The fact that they are playing a team on the move to D-I status futher solidifies the type of team and program they are.  I hope they pull that game out.  Good luck LX.

I agree with the captain,
If and when the eagles beat the Bisons d1 schools won't want to play them either, and then they will be forced to play the Almighty Franklin Outlaws. Which would be a scary sight, and I don't mean for the outlaws.

South Dakota State was scheduled by the AD without any input from the coaches.  Be wary of a steady diet of scholarship teams on your schedule.  UWRF wasn't and look what it got them. Some of those teams in the early 2000's were pretty good, but when they entered conference play 0-3 and 0-3 year after year, it took a toll. We can sit here and say, "Yeah, we got beat, but by a damn good DII program."  For the guys on the field, it's simpler, "We got beat."  And, sometimes, "We got our asses kicked."

I'd guess RF will have an easier time getting games now that they have apparently done away with the bone. No one wanted to "waste" a pre season game playing against that, then not see it the rest of the year.

Larry Terry made it perfectly clear at this month's WIAC Media Day that South Dakota State is on the schedule just to get a NINTH game on the schedule.  Without the Jackrabbits, LAX would be playing an eight-game schedule this year.

Also, I may be splitting hairs here but South Dakota State plays at the NCAA 1-AA level in the Great West Conference in football and NCAA 1-A in all other sports.

It is still a hell of a jump in caliber from SDSU's Division II days.

I too give LAX credit to play a team at that level just so its athletes can play "a nearly" full schedule.

Does anyone know if Jared Roeker is back this year at EC?   If so thats not good news for the rest of the conference because then EC will be returning all of the front 7 except Jones who will be replace by Roeker.

Bluegold:  Been looking forward to your return to the board.  What are your thoughts on this year's team?

blugold45

I think the season rests on the shoulders of whomever is the QB for the season.  With the receiving core they return, one would think that some kid with a good arm could become a star.  The defense should be one of if not the best in the WIAC depending on the replacement of the only two players gone, Sikora and Tieri.  With the addition of Roeker(if he is coming back) that front 7 is really really good.  It does say (on the website) that Sipple will remain at DC, but don't think for a second that Glaser won't be hands on with the D.  The last time the EC defense was dominate was when Glaser was there, he seems to have the Johnnies number and gets the D ready for that game better then most coaches.
