IT'S FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, BOYS!!!

The start of High School football!, (in most areas.)  If that isn't the official signal that it is football season, I don't know what is!!!!!

I hope some folks make the trip to Abilene for the game.

Just a warning.  Abilene is a pretty boring town ;)

I agree with the Captain. The Warhawks should put up very big numbers in the scrimmage. One of their coaches even guaranteed me that they were going to score 40 points a game. I hope thats true becase we all know they can do that against Lakeland,Wesley and Platteville.
However the question is can they do that against Lacrosse.
Either way my personal expectations for the Warhawks are very high. Lets just say that about a week before christmas I expect to see them in Virginia playing and winning the national title.

For anyone interested, the Western Wisconsin Sports Saturday Show will begin this week from 8-10 AM and will be on WMEQ am 880.  The show will also be streamed on the internet so you can just go to WMEQ.com and click on "Listen Live".  We will focus on the Gridiron Classic teams that played in Menonomie this week but will also feature EC, Stout, and RF WIAC coaches every week.  Hoping to catch up with Pat Coleman again this year as we talk about d3 football.  I will be doing the Menomonie/Mukwonago game tonight so LaBuda will also be one of our guests on Sat.  This HS game matches one of the best division 1 programs in the state vs one of the best division 2 schools.  Should be interesting.

Hey Sakman,
I'm just kidding.  I don't really expect the Warhawks to hang 70 in a scrimmage.  However, I do expect domination from the Warhawks this Saturday.

Captain I realize you are kidding but we do agree on the fact they will dominate....

Due to the rain today's WARHAWK/Elmhurst scrimmage was moved from the stadium to the practice field and was played in reverse order with the live scrimmage first, in case of more rain, followed by the scripted plays.  The two teams also practiced together in the morning.  There were quite a few spectators.

Elmhurst has a nice team returning all 11 defensive starters and 7 offensive starters from last year's team.  Their staff feels that they will be able to compete well in the CCIW this year and contend for it's championship.   Those of you who jokingly thought we'd beat them by 56-70 were badly mistaken.  It was, after all, only a half of football.  ;)

We played pretty well on both sides of the ball and won the scrimmage.  I'm not sure the #1's ran the ball as well as they had hoped and after scoring on their initial possession, on a long Jacobs to Stanley pass, were held to a pair of first downs on the next two before punting.  However they rebounded from that with another touchdown drive and overall had a effective outing scoring at least once more on a nice run by #13.  Without a scoreboard it was hard to keep track.  Plus over 100 WARHAWKS[/color] saw action.

Defensively the effort was pretty good.  Elmhurst did sustain two drives, both ending in field goals, primarily with passes as their ground game was stymied all day.  They also returned an interception for a touchdown and didn't surrender a touchdown during the live scrimmage.  I don't recall Elmhurst scoring a touchdown all afternoon though I tended to fade in and out during the scripted plays portion and when the backups and potential cuts were playing so they may have and I didn't notice.

All in all it was a good start.  If Elmhurst is as strong as they think they are going to be we're doing ok.  Not that we don't have things to work on.  For instance I thought the yellow flag popped out a few too many times.  Twice on third down plays which had been stopped in one of the sustained JayBird drives.   And I don't think they'll be mistaken for LaCrosse anytime soon.  So we've still got to get a lot better.

But you had to have a smile on your face when it was over.

From the sounds of it looks like the score was around 35-6...  Not bad for one half of football and alot of guys getting in the game...

Kinda quiet on the board in light of the fact that play starts next week. I  saw some of the UWL intrasquad scrimmage yesterday. It's hard to tell much from what I saw,but they looked only "OK" to me. There were many dropped balls, especially on kick returns. You can't leave the punkin on the floor and hope to win. The Eagles face Div. 1-AA South Dakota State on the road next Saturday evening. I will "study on it", and give my thoughts on the game later in the week.

Stanley also ran a kick off back for a touchdown and took another pass reception to the house.  I'd forgotten those.

Any news on how the rest of the WIAC did on Saturday?

Johnnie Red

For all you Blugold fans who will be making the trip to Collegeville this Saturday, please join us for the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party. We will be starting around 9:00 a.m. with the grills going by 10:00 a.m. Bring some food to share and the beverage of your choice. We will be serving the world famous Stiftungsfest burgers. The tailgate party is located in the parking lot behind the library, just above the scoreboard end of the field. Hope to see you there!

DuffMan

I'd just like to second Johnnie Red's invite.  Us MIAC fans like to talk a lot of smack on these boards, but it'd be really nice to be able to meet you guys in person (we're not nearly as arrogant in person ;)).

If anyone needs directions or any further info, feel free to PM me or send an e-mail my way (e-mail address is in my profile).

Go Johnnies!
