Duffman--I've watched several practices and a scrimmage vs. Concordia/Moorhead (the first three possessions for each team). CM got the better of RF, scoring on 2 of their 3 possessions, but the Falcons had had only 5 practices and no contact before the scrimmage. CM's O was much more diversified than RF's because the Falcons concentrated on perfecting blocking assignments and ran only a few plays, featuring their one back, Anderson, in mostly line plunges. Other than that, the QB, Jeremy Wolff, a senior from Janesville, MN, rolled out for passes. Coach O'Grady says Wolff should be playing at least divsion 2 football and is high in his estimate of his potential.

RF got the better of the Cobbers in the kicking/punting game, a better than average part of their arsenal.

RF will feature a 300lb plus center and left guard, a 6/8" player who has been mentioned in pre-season speculation about all conference. RF will give up speed and athleticism to the Johnnies.

RF's Buker is a returning all conference d back (free safety?) and the team returns 9/11 on D, 7/11 on O. Still, I'm more worried about the D than the O despite the switch from the wishbone, an offense the players were happy to abandon.

I'm just hoping that the Falcons will be competitive vs. SJU.

Oshkosh pundits...how is the team going to fare this year? Where is Steve Stoltz?

I was also at the CM - RF scrimage.  The majority of the offense plays the cobbers ran were with their 2nd and 3rd string backs and line.  RF rarely stopped them.  On offense the Falcons didn't move the ball until the backup defense came in, and then only made a couple of plays.  I don't think they will be close to the Johnnie's.
From what I saw,  they could make a close game of it with Northwestern.

River Falls fans, if you are making the trip to Collegeville this Saturday, please consider joining us for the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party that starts at 9:00 a.m. and goes to 12:30 p.m. We are located in the parking lot just above the scoreboard end of the field. Bring a culinary delight to share and the beverage of your choice. Hope to see you there.

Thanks Fredfalcon!  Will you be making it to the game?

What you'll see from the Johnnies:

I'll bet they're going to be stretching the field a lot.  Kofoed (QB) didn't have a great game versus Eau Claire, but he still threw for 300 yards.  He's got some good receivers that are deep threats.  Gearman, especially, is big, fast, and has a knack for getting behind defenders (he has trouble catching it in traffic, though).  the running game never really got on track versus Eau Claire.  It showed flashes, but the SJU running game has been hit or miss the past few years.  No feature back--they rotate a few guys in there.

The SJU defense looks to be good despite a lot of new faces.  The d-line will be giving up a lot of weight to your boys, but they make up for that in speed and athleticism.  The secondary seemed a little soft versus Eau Claire.  It think it will improve as the d-line settles in and gets better pressure on the QB.  The roll-out gave use some problems versus Eau Claire, so I hope they get that figured out this week.

Yes, Duffman, I'll be there and thanks for the invite, JR. I attended one other stiftungsfestivities event when Stevens Point, (or was it EC?) played SJU. Both were playoff games. Anyway, I look forward to meeting Johnnie fans.

And, cornking, I would not take too much from that scrimmage. What you said you saw is accurate, but the Falcons did manage to squeak out a 45-17 win over Pacific Lutheran last season. Or aren't they in Northwestern's class? I figure we'll be at least as competitive as we were last year, and hopefully, better.

FredFalcon - How much support will River Falls have at the game?  Any idea on how many RF fans will be making the trip to Collegeville Saturday?

BDB

I guess you have me in a box. Cheese for you. Maybe on a stick so you'll feel like you do at the state fair.

Damn home field advantage.  :D

chris56317--I don't expect much in the way of quantity, but the QUALITY of the support (much higher than that following Stout, usually just a rabble, excepting BDB of course) will be supreme.

Oshkosh has another good team this year.  They D is looking great and played tough last game.  The O line is arguably the best in the confrence and the skilled positions are not lacking either.  Steve Stoltz is still on the team, but due to some off season miss-understandings he will miss the first couple of games.  expect him to be amped and ready to go for the WIAC
