Devil Badger Gopher

I was the only one to pick Stevens Point last week.  I chose that as my upset for the week.  And like I said, who would ahve ever thought that would constitute as an upset.

Sorry for the previous spelling error.
For all of you looking for the Texas game to be a tell all, and prove the greatness of D3 football.  You are looking at the wrong place.  UWW will win big going away to Te`-has and make people wonder if they should be #1!

WOW, that's what I call something to chew on.  Good job DBG!!  But, I think the good 'ol boys down yonder are singing a significantly different tune, however.

Pat, I know.  Between Brian and I, we have seen hundreds of games, and neither of us could recall a do-over.  I hope those refs have to defend it.

Again I stress, the call had little affect on the result of the game.

well the crusaders have taken on the number five and six offenses n the nation and held them both to 16 or less points. Whitewater is ranked 14 as of this week. is this a concern for the Warhawks? also I read that the temp will be in the low 80's this will make the temp on the truff in the low 90's how will this affect the Warhawks?I have also read how great the Warhawk defense is. this could be a great battle of the defenses. I give the advantage to the crusaders for overall team speed. As great fans of WhitewaterI would like to hear your thoughts.

Can you give the nod to the Crusaders without having seen Whitewater this year??

The reason I think UWW will beat them well is due to past WIAC games against Texas teams.
WIAC is 3-1 vs. TX  since 2002, with the lone WIAC loss against a weak (under .500 opponent)

Warhawks right now playing very well .....if it weren't for turnovers in the weather and some strange penalty calls they would have scored 70 against Platteville. Oline is playing their best football right now and #9,#28,and #23 look sharp at running back. Defense is still solid except for a sporadic long bomb. Special teams are very tough. Looking forward to some warm weather in Texas and a big victory for the Warhawks. POUND THE ROCK!! GO WARHAWKS!!......

Devil Badger Gopher,

While I do not think past teams performances have anything to do with this week's UWW vs. UMHB match-up, your stat intrigued me. According to my research, WIAC is .500 (4-4) against Texas teams since 1999 and Hardin Simmons is 4-1 verses the WIAC.

1999 and 2000 Hardin Simmons defeated UWW.
2003 HSU lost to UW-Stout
2004 and 2006 HSU beat UW Stephens Point.

Howard Payne has lost three times to WIAC opponents.
1999 HPU lost to UWW.
2003 and 2005 HPU was defeated by UW La Crosse

I can find no records prior to 1999 and I can find no record of any other Texas teams playing teams from the WIAC during this time period.

So, if you want to go on past performance the record stands at 4-4  for WIAC vs. Texas - more specifically Texas teams in the ASC (since 1999 anyway). So by that measure it looks like a toss up.

During the time frame you mention, the WIAC has a slight edge at 3-2. By that measure, the Warhawks would be slight favorites.

One more to contemplate, UWW is 1-2 (since 1999) against teams from Texas. Give the nod to UMHB with this stat.

Of course all the above is fun to discuss but all the stats and speculation will be moot come Saturday afternoon. Past teams performances will have no bearing on the outcome of the game.

No predictions here, I am just looking forward to a great game.

Well I watched them on tv in the Stagg Bowl. If they are the same team they will see the fastes defense they have ever seen. keep in mind this is the number two rush defense in the nation. and with their speed they cause problems when people stop running the ball and go to the air. If they can cause the Whitewater offense to be one dementional it will be an interesting afternoon. They did this to HSU and it worked well for them. so yes I still like the Crusaders on Sat.  give me some Warhawk numbers to say otherwise.

Since watching UWW against St John's last year, and against UW LAX this year. I, an unapologetic St John's fan, have become a believer. The Warhawks handled the speed and athleticism of SJU, which is looked upon as their strength, and the reson they beat the Mount in the Stagg in 2003. They handled the size and relatively decent speed of UWL also. Their "O" has no weaknesses that I could see, and had multiple weapons The "D" is also tough,  other than maybe size and covering the deep routes by the DB's. UMHB is in for a tough day IMHO.

"UMHB is in for a tough day IMHO."

The same thing was being said prior to the 2004 Stagg Bowl. Many were picking Linfield to beat the CRU by 4 or more touchdowns. However, the Purple CRUsh defense rose to the occasion and had the Wildcats sweating bullets in the final minute of the game.

Looking forward to a great game by two great teams.

No idea who will win UMHB/WW game, but if UMHB does win convincingly, I'd say they had good reason to lobby for the #1 ranking.

It sounds like such a good game I would drive down for it if I didn't have a family wedding that day. Good luck to both teams, just a little extra for WW.

Azusa Pacific wasn't exactly wearing concrete shoes when we played them.  I don't know how their defense's team speed would stack up against MH-B but they weren't exactly slugs and our offense was able to function.

But one thing I've heard repeated more than once in regards to Texas D3 football is that it's good and the kids are fast.  It should be a great game.  Unfortunately I'll be in Chicago this weekend so I probably won't be able to listen to it.  :(

FYI and FWIW Azusa Pacific is 1-6.

If the score is low, it means the UMHB defense is on and the CRU has a chance to win. If it turns into a high scoring shootout then I think Warhawks will be in control.

Like most big games this one comes downs to mistakes and turnovers.

It is too bad about Beaver's injury. It would be great to see him in action. To all the Warhawk faithful, I hope he heals fast.

I am hoping for a good game and a UMHB victory.
