Forgive the oversensitiveness on my part... I have grown weary of those who refuse to give credit to the UMHB program - especially its defense. I admit when reading posts I do not always place them in context as to who posted what and when. So, my comments were not a reaction to you in particular bagerwarhawk. Your posts have been intelligent and even tempered.

There are some posters in every forum that believe their team is God's gift to D3 football. To hear them tell it their team has never been beaten. If they come out on the short end on the score board it was because their team did not play well, or the refs had it out for them, etc... they never acknowledge that a team might have just played better on that given day or, heaven forbid,  that someone's team might actually be better.

We are all die-hard supporters of our respective teams... no shame in that, but let's give credit where credit is due.

I count myself fortunate to have witnessed UMHB vs UWW. It was a defensive classic. And as an old corner-back, I loved every snap.

Sounds like UMHB was able to get great pressure on Jacobs.  Was that primarily with the front four or through blitzes?

A combination.... corner and safety blitzes were effective. UWW always kept at least one back in to block which limited the number of targets the QB had to throw to. With the exception of a couple of underneath routes, receivers were rarel open - and when they were the window was not open for very long.

Cat,

I didn't mean to climb on your back.  My apologies for that.  I just don't sense the disrespect for UMH-B here that you seemed to feel.

I've never felt that UW-WW is god's gift to the D3 football world.  That sounds like Mount Union ;).  Most of us were very concerned about this game as soon as we saw it on the schedule.  The plethora of good football players in Texas is no secret and it's not surprising that some of them end up on D3 rosters.   And when our charters were delayed 6 `1/2 hours in Chicago I thought the trip was off to a bad start.

On the play in which Jake fumbled on our 15 yard line the radio guys indicated our running back has wiffed on the block.  I don't know if that was the case or not just that it's what they said.  Maybe Beaver would have helped there, he is pretty good at picking up the blitzes, but it's equally possible that no one could have stopped the defender.  Your absolutely correct however, Jake didn't have anywhere  as much time to find receivers and make the throws because of the pressure your defense applied.  The tribute to your defense is the fact that we knew you were going to do that but still had our hands full trying to stop it.

It's always a pleasure to listen to games in which you know even the slightest mistakes can be the difference between winning and losing.  That's a sign of quality opponents.  I was on the edge of my seat, when I could sit that is.  I have to admit to making more than one lap around my basement rec room and saying a few "thank you, god" which is my catch phrase for a situation I know we just got a major break on.

As far has god's gift to D3 football is concerned, they know who they are  ;).

Whether listening, or at the game, it was intense. I stood most of the time, at least when the people behind me were not telling me to sit down  :).

I spoke to some UWW fans in the parking lot and offered my congratulations. They were gracious in victory.

It was a day that personified why I like D3 football so much.

First and most importantly, GREAT PIC and HAT, Duffman!!   I love it!!!  Thanks!

I am home and weary from the travel but found the Lonestar State and the Cru players and fans to be very classy and the weather was great.  Thank you to all the Texans for the terrific hospitality.  Now for my observations of the game.  The best defensive battle I have had the pleasure (or pain depending on how you look at it) to witness in several years.  The best defense that UWW has seen in a long time and probably will see the rest of the year barring a rematch, of course.  I believe that the Warhawks defense is also one of the tops in the country and they proved that Saturday.  UWW did do more "bending" allowing a few more sustained drives but made crucial stops when needed.  UMHB's D was just dominating and managed to cover EVERYONE and still stuff the run!  As to the offenses, both teams came into this game averaging 39.7 and 35.6 points and just came up against brick walls!!  Hard not to talk a little more about the defensive side of the ball after a game like this.  I feel like I did after the incredible 2005 West Region Final where UWW won 44-41 over Linfield, a game with 11 lead changes and over 1,000 yards of offense.  We talked a little more about the offenses after that game.   ;) It was no disrespect to the defenses.  The offenses of those two teams were just dominant!!  Those two programs and fans came away with nothing but respect for each other.  I feel the same about this game just the other side of the ball.
Regarding Beaver, the Cru D was so dominate that who knows if he could have gotten another inch.  I just know that I would have liked to go into a battle like that with my best ammunition and that is Beaver.   Would  he have allowed us to establish a running game?????  UMHB's D was so dominate that I kind of doubt it would have made a BIG difference but we'll never know.  I was one of the posters who said we would be just fine without him because of great back-ups, passing game and O-Line but in this game against such a dominating rush defense, I did wish we'd had him.  My side was fortunate to come away with a win considering the caliber of your team, the noisy UMHB crowd and the rigors of such a hectic travel schedule.  Best of luck to the Cru with the rest of their season.!!  :) :) :)  Time for the Hawks to refocus on the WIAC.
        GO WARHAWKS!!!   POUND THE ROCK!!

footballfan413,

I also say good post but would like to add it was nice to meet you as well.   ;D

I went over to the UWW tailgate after the game but missed seeing you.  I sincerely hope the Rueland youngster is OK.  It was nice to meet with his relatives as well.  Best of luck to UWW for the rest of the year !!!

Any update on Rueland?

Thanks for your concern, Boys, but if I told you, I'd have to kill you........ ;D
Seriously, haven't heard anything definite yet.  The Hawks were very, very lucky to get through last season without any significant injuries.  Seems kama is righting itself this year.............. :'( :'(

Bobo, If UMHB triple teamed Kleppe, it was the worst triple team in history.   :o.  I was at the game and UMHB could not block him on the running game, particularly the first few series.  It looked like they were trying to block him one on one.  On pass plays they were helping with the tackle and center at times.  You can't run any offense if you triple team.  He looked like he bull rushed and just dominated.  He is the best d-lineman I've seen.

Whatever...
Bill - call off the dogs!! I was just responding to an outlandish, blanket statement of partial reality.  When 2 impartial guys like Pat and Keith chuckle about the triple teaming going on, I felt it was my duty to clear the air.  I enjoy your posts,  UMHBalum - n- Catland, and all the posters on your board.  Very knowledgeable, insightful, and intelligent discussions.  Much more than a lot of what is written on other boards, including this one. In no way was I trying to put down the accomplishments of anybody.
