Whitworth didn't bid to host next week

Seriously!!??  Why would Whitworth choose not to host?  That's weird.

Not sure, maybe they didn't look this far ahead. I think you have to bid in early November a week or two before the playoffs start?

Not that is matters since SJU defeated Whitworth, but where did you hear this? I hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere (including on this website) unless I missed it somewhere.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

I don't think there's any bidding going on.  The higher seed gets the home game, I believe, unless the NCAA determines the stadium is not large enough or fails to meet specific standands set by the NCAA.  The NCAA would then move the game to an alternate location, like they did in the first round when Concordia (WI) met North Central at WLC.  But, as you said, it's a moot point here.

Yeah, that's exactly how I understood it. Just wondering where EagleAlum heard that Whitworth "didn't bid to get the home game" if they had won.

Fair enough, BoBo.

There were a number of big plays - but Whitewater cancelled out the value of a lot of positives with mistakes right after - at least in the second half.  From a mistake standpoint, the game was no contest.  I thought LaCrosse made fewer mistakes, and when they did they made a lot of plays to atone.

The Mrkvicka catch and run was a big play that FINISHED.  Whitewater didn't get a chance to waste that opportunity (...and there was much rejoicing .... :) ).
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Just wanted to tip my hat to the Lacrosse effort. They moved the ball against the Hawks like no one has done this year. Too bad one team had to lose.

It sure was nice to see #32, Beaver, back in there.

Great season by the UWL Eagles came to an end today against the Warhawks, but they gave them all they could handle... Small consolation will be that their only two losses on the season may turn out to be to the National Champs...

It's a shame UWL didn't get to use today's performance against another team in the tournament, and maybe put up a W against someone else to continue on, but that's how it goes...

Re Whitworth not putting in a bid for the game next week, had they won... That is what the UWL radio announcers, who know their stuff, said during the game today. Whitworth didn't bid to host... Had the Eagles won, they would be hosting St. Johns next weekend, according to the announcers...

This is similar to the format used for the D3 hoops tournament and host sights at the end of the year, I believe...

Congrats to the Warhawks, and take care of business next weekend!

KitchenSink

Looking at the box score for the game, it shows a figure of 3,000 for attendance.  I know the student section was a lot sparser than usual because it's TG weekend - but I thought it was more than 3,000 bodies.  Anyone else at the game have an opinion?

The even number reeks of seat-of-the-pants guesswork.  Heck, LaC had an impressive turnout - it looked almost SRO on the visitor side.

You have to bid to even get an initial home game.  Even if you a high seed, you have to bid before the season almost.  We found that out the hard way.

Every one has answered but I'll bet my right arm that was the case. Again, don't know why, just know La Crosse was hosting either one. Heard from a couple sources who were getting people ready to work if indeed La Crosse won. They were told, regardless of who won out west, they would host if still alive.

I may only have 40 posts, but believe me, I'll have my facts straight if I post something. As Olinemom said, it happens more often than one would think. And you pretty much have to put in a bid to host any NCAA tournament contests; there may be a few sports that are exceptions but not many. And also like she said, the bids are expected early.

Lets get ready to Ruuuuuumbllllllllllllle!

Another exciting week of anticipation.  Let's hope for an epic clash. (and  Johnny win, of course :) )

Bulk19 - The radio announcers may know their stuff, but they don't understand this  ::) ::) ::).  It's all hypothetical now, but had the Eagles won and SJU, UWL would host because they are the higher seed, not because Whitworth didn't put in a bid. Had WC and UWL won, the game would have been at Spokane because WC is the higher seed. Period...unless the NCAA would say the Pine Bowl is not an acceptable venue (which is not likely since they just played SJU there today) BB & baseball use totally different selection criteria.  Since you probably don't trust me on this, maybe the Guru can chime in to confirm this.  But, back to reality, it really doesn't matter since both WC and UWL lost anyway - HELLLLLOOOOO!!  :)

You have to apply to host, and the NCAA has to accept your facility.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

J'Flash - WC's stadium is already acceptable since they played their today.  Plus, what Bulk19 said is that had UWL and SJU won, the game would be at UWL because WC didn't bid to host the game.  And I say that has nothing to do with it.  WC is not even playing, and oh, BTW, Spokane is 1,500 miles away from both schools playing.  UWL would host not because they would get the largest crowd (which they wouldn't) but because they are the higher seed.

This week, we can agree that both UWW and SJU want the home game.  But UWW is going to get it, not because they would have a larger crowd and so a bigger gate, but because they are the higher seeded team.  If we go on the logic of Bulk19 and KitchenSink, et al, the NCAA would pick a facility that had the greatest possibility for a larger gate or a guarantee for a higher gate. Why is there such a desire to win out during the regular season and getting a higher seed come playoff time - because you get the home game!! Everyone knows, that if UWW wins against SJU, they will be at home over either Wesley or UMHB because they are the higher seed.  I'm sure both of those fine institutions want the home game too...agreed??? They won't get it regardless of what they promise the NCAA.

This is getting tiresome. Yes, the higher seed gets the game, IF they applied to host. If they didn't, they don't, no matter what seed they are.
