Just back from not packing the Perk. Congrats UWW and fans. It's amazing how one play could mean so much. The Warhawks were able to make the plays when they needed to do so, as has been stated before. Just two questions; On the fumble deep in Johnnie territory that led to the FG, How did they award it to UWW? and the Beaver fumble/non-fumble in the second quarter. Why was it not a fumble? I can't believe they ruled that he was down. I had a perfect line on it and it sure looked like he was still running when it came out. Stop committing penalties and they won't be called. Actually, it looked like they missed a couple. A Pass Interference along the sidelines late, and another face mask that it seemed like everyone in the SJU stands saw but not the stripes.

Better bring home the Walnut and Bronze. I know there's been a couple times when the Johnnies squeeked one out in the quarters, and romped in the semis. You can too.

Oh, and by the way, That Kleppe guy is pretty good. ;)

An interesting side note. There were a couple Whitewater ruggers who came and stood in front of the SJU stands at the start of the second half. They obviously had more than gentlemen should. In other words they were stiff, besotted, in the bag, three sheets to the wind, drunk as skunks.............. Anywho, they were cheering for the Warhawks, trying to get a response out of the Johnnie fans. What they got was unanimously ignored. In about twenty minutes, they gave it up and left. Maybe that's a good lesson. It took all I could muster not to give them the bidness.

Fun game to be at - but also nerve wracking.  Way to go, Hawks.

Jacobs had a pretty poor day throwing.  I think mostly because StJ kept 'em off the field and out of rythm.. did hit the one biggie to Gifford right in front of me, and Giff almost muscled it in.

St John's played well.  Kofoed threw the ball great.  Thank heavens for the home field advantage!
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

This pales in comparison to all the other accomplishments in his career, and to today's victory, but I was just thinking that coach Berezowitz will finish his career with a winning record against Gagliardi, 2-1. Of guys who have played at least, say, three games against John, I have to think the number of coaches who can claim to have a winning mark against him is very low. Kehres is 3-1. Other than that, I can't think of anyone, although there could be some from the 60s or way back when.

retagent - if you had the opportunity to see a replay like I did, you would have seen clearly that Beaver was down on the play you speak of - knee down, ball came out, that simple.  When I saw it live, it too looked like a fumble. The officials got that one right.
Of course everyone in the SJU stands saw penalties that nobody else saw.  That's football.  There were many in the WW stands that could be heard under the announcers voices expressing similar opinions about SJU penalties not being called.  Probably to most obvious non-call of the game was the mauling of Kleppe during the Johnnies first drive of the 3rd quarter. The guard literally tackled him as Kofoed rolled to his right to avoid being sacked, the QB later ran for about 9 yards before being tackled in front of the Warhawk bench.  The umpire was standing in proper position in plain view of it, with just the three players in the play.  Rather easy call that he didn't make.  That play came minutes before the INT deep in WW territory.  There were numerous other holding penalties on the Johnnies O-line that didn't get called, as well.  The WW D-line just was just blowing by them on many plays.  Rarely did Kofoed not throw off his back leg because he was under such constant pressure by the Warhawk D.  He seems to be pretty shaken by the pressure and throwing up fluttering passes.  Credit goes to his receivers and backs for bailing him out many times.
Turn-overs by SJU and a lack of turn-overs by UW-W decided this game - not the referees - just as most people had correctly pointed out in the days leading up to the game!!  Amazing how intelligent you guys are!!

I ventured out in the cold from my north region home to catch some west region football at perkins stadium. Great facility. my first time there. a div 1 type environment. Congrats to the warhawks. i thought SJU was really impressive and had a great defensive gameplan. Ryan Kleppe was the difference in the game. he was in the backfield as much as the SJU running backs. he has a great motor and is very explosive. SJU did a good job of containing beavers. I don't understand why UWW doesn't get the ball to Derek Stanley more (or the TE for that matter). they are both playmakers. It seemed every time UWW opened up their offense things came easy for them. when they chose to grind it out on the ground it was tough sledding.

Keys to the game were obviously the turnovers. The officials had NO impact on the game negatively or positively. they missed the one really bad holding on Kleppe but they caught plenty of other stuff. It was not, in my estimation, a factor in the outcome.

Congrats to both teams on a well played, exciting game. I look forward to seeing Wesley this week against UWW.

Just returned to ChiTown after a cold but very rewarding day at the Perk. Hopefully next week the Warhawks can put together a solid effort from both the offense and defense and send Wesley home for the year. Cudos to St. Johns and all their supporters.....they are a class act. 27-1 for the last two years is not half bad at all.....but 28-1 would really be an awesome improvement. POUND THE ROCK!!!!!.....

Beaver was clearly down on the non-fumble.

As to the other fumble in question, the ruling was that the defensive player gained posession of the ball with his knee on the ground prior to everyone piling onto him.

Even through the scrum he kept at least split posession of the ball.  I think there was a SJU player who got his hands on the ball, but never totally took it from the UWW player.

Front page says that Jorris didn't play at QB for Mt. Union... but doesn't say WHY???

Anyone know if he was injured, and if he was the extent of it?

patcummings

His was injured in the first half, along with Pierre Garcon...both played some.  Micheli played the entire second half.  Not sure what the injuries were.

What was the Perkins Stadium field condition?  I was there calling the Wesley/UWW game last year and remember that Wesley didn't have a shot...I'll be back again this year and think Wesley might have more than one pair of shoes this time.

Somewhere in the pre-game comments about all the bad weather down in southeastern Wisconsin, a suggestion was made about moving the game to Carson Park in EC, in the unlikely possibility that the field wouldn't have been playable...

As a Blugold fan, I for one would have loved to have had that happen, to be able to watch one more D3 game in person this year. And as a fan of good football, I'd have had my butt in the freezing cold stands, watching the game, because today UW-Whitewater and SJU represented what D3 is all about, and what I support. Thanks, gentlemen...

Warhawks = Congrats on the W. But you have business to take care of on Saturday... Keep it rolling, and win one for the WIAC...

Jorris threw 5 passes before he was injuried - MUC threw only 8 for the game for 26 yards.  I guess that is called trying to establish the run.  Micheli ran for 118 yards on 24 carries in a relief role.
