The Perk field looked to be in good shape.  I don't recall seeing much slipping or anything.

They said it was covered all week.  Was a little tight in the corners to some healthy snow banks, and a little mud by the benches.  Playing field was all good, though.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Agreed...watching on the video feed, I really didn't see too much slipping either. The field looked to be in great condition considering the circumstances. I think the Johnnies brought the proper shoes, too! + Karma to the grounds crew for getting it ready to play.  Is there any other natural grass field in D3 that would have been ready to play on after a snow storm like that this week???  I doubt it!!

Just saw some of the highlights during the sports report. Kudos to the groundskeeping crew in Whitewater. Those were some massive King-of-the-Hill snow piles on the sidelines...

And then, of course, the announcer reminded me that the Packers play the Jets tomorrow, which I'd been trying to remember all day. Yawn. Ho hum. There's still two weeks of D3 playoff games to follow!

Bobo and uww0212. Thanks for the input. I assumed since no one on the Johnnies put up much of a fight about the Beaver non-fumble, the stripes must have got it right. Didn't see the replay, obviously. Same with the UWW recovery before FG. On the "holding" call, I also had a good look at that (although you may by now be questioning my vision) It looked like Kleppe either stumbled over his feet or a downed player and the blocker just used that to drive him down, the "O" linemen's hands were in tight to his body, and they will rarely call holding if he keeps them in that position. Otherwise, we both proably have our red and purple glasses on. Again, a good win for UWW and Good Luck in the next two weeks.

Just a further note on the drunken ruggers. They were very good natured and were not in any way over the line. I just found the whole thing funny. If anyone knows them tell them good try, and it was enjoyed by at least one Johnnie fan. Since I played Rugby, I have some affinity for all others who do.

Congrats on the big win, UWW.  I thought the Johnnie defense played more than well enough to win, but Kleppe should be kept in a cage between games so he doesn't hurt people around campus.

Jacobs and Kofoed were quite a contrast--Jacobs did a great job of throwing the ball away and avoiding pressure while Kofoed tried to push it a little more and ran into some costly sacks and a tough interception along the sidelines.  The big turning point was the interception by Murray, but you certainly can't pin that one on the QB as it was 4th-and-forever and he had to try to make something happen.  I'm suprised Murray didn't either knock the ball down (as it was 4th down) or get tackled deep in his own territory, but the return and short field were obviously huge.

Good run for the Johnnies, tough to see it end.  But I have a feeling we'll be back.

Congratulations to UWW for the win.  The Johnnies had you but your guys made the plays.  Hope you go all the way!

Take it easy on Janesville if you see him - I think he's drunk.  :D

I really don't like to complain about officiating, because no matter how many calls you think didn't go your way.... the game is decided by players making plays.  However, the missed holding call on Kleppe was BAD!!!  The O-lineman grabbed his jersey on the top of his shoulder and pretty much pulled him down.  Then, the following play, Kleppe makes a TFL, gets up and puts his hands in the air, and receives a warning for celebration.  That's crap, I know there is a sportsmanship rule in college football about drawing attention to yourself, but he was not doing that.  The kid got absolutely hosed on a call the play before, and instead of complaining about the call he doesn't say a word, lines up and destroys the next play, and gets warned for showing enthusiasm.

As for the field conditions, they were as good as you could possibly expect.  The actual playing surface was in great condition.  The sidelines got a little muddy as the game wore on.  The only real slipping occured when players went out of bounds, or were tackled within a yard or so of the edge of the field.  I think conditions overall may have kept the score down a bit, but the field conditions in no way changed the outcome of the game.

uww0212 - You nailed it exactly.  Doesn't matter what color glasses you might be wearing, it was one of the worse non-calls since it was so easy to see.  As a matter of fact, after that next play, did it look to you like Kleppe was starting a "grave-digger" celebration with a little hop and arms in the air like you said ala Gilbert Brown, but then ceased?  Unbelievable!!  But, it was happening all game long and SJU still had no answer for him.  But, the game's over, Johnnies go home unsucessful, so it really doesn't matter anymore.
It does makes you wonder how Wesley is going to confront him, though. Incredible performance.  Hope he and his partners on the Warhawk D have 2 more performances like that in them.

Our D3football.com broadcaster had originally told me Jorris was injured, and that was during the game.

On further analysis from Gordon Mann, he said Jorris seemed to be fine on the sideline and Kehres could have just pulled him.  So - anyone's guess.

Yes, there were some holding non-calls for sure, but there were also a few times our receivers got mugged.  Bad calls both ways--I don't they affected the outcome of the game.  I thought all the calls that were made were very valid--pretty hard to screw up offsides calls, and lots of facemasks that were clearly visible.

If you truly wanted to, you could throw a flag on nearly every play.  You gotta keep the game moving.  It sounded like these refs were heads and shoulders above the ones we've had the previous two games.

Congrats again to the Warhawks.  Take it to 'em!

I agree the field was great given the circumstances. It was clear, however that sharp cuts were going to be difficult. the east/west sweep StJU runs was tough to make sharp cuts. that had an effect a couple times. Overall the field was great. and they did a great job clearing the stands too. lots of snow drifts in the stands and the field. a couple tackles out of bounds ended up in a snow pile.

according to the PA announcer your karma should be directed to the Warhawk  Baseball team!!

I agree. this officiating crew (unfortunately) was about as good as I have seen in D3.
