Captain Curt -

I know what a Monkey Stomp is... just wondering what constitutes a butt wipe?

Might want to go back and look at the results for UWEC this season, who was in every game they played this year but two...

You've got a team that is playing for a national championship on Saturday. It's nice to see that, while the rest of the conference has jumped on the Warhawks bandwagon and is rooting for them, you're on here whining about individual awards and denigrating at least one team in the conference and the player who won the Gagliardi Trophy...

How about showing some class while your team is on the national stage...

The first truly myopic, fan (atic) based post of the week.  Mount is on the way out?  WW wins 35-10?  Suspect secondary?  Have you looked at the amount of points/yards/rating regarding the Mount defense?  Dude.......this was the same bullcrap you were probably spouting LAST year.  The possibilities of WW scoring 35, AND Mount only scoring 10 are about 0.0000000001 percent.

Bulk,
Saying what I said was harsh now that I've gone back and re-read my post.  What I simply meant was, that although Alma beat a WIAC team, EC was a bottom feeder this year in the WIAC.  I do not believe that this is untruthful or harsh.  I apologize to the EC family for saying what I did previously.

Yes, I do have my favorite team playing for a national championship.  That's great and I couldn't ask for more.  But at the same time, Kleppe is a former teammate of mine.  I went to bat for him when I felt it was appropriate.  I never said Brehm was a bad kid.  He's a great kid.  I stated that Alma was a below average team playing in a below average conference.  Again, I do not believe that this is untruthful or harsh.

When I look back on the previous winners of the Gagliardi Award, such as Dan Pugh, Chuck Moore, Blake Elliot, the QB from Pacific Lutheran in 2000, the WR from St. John's in 2003, I see these dudes and is it coincidence that they were on National Championship teams and won this award?  I just think Kleppe got ripped.  I just think the "football" side of the award got over looked a little too much.

Done and done.  I moved on.

Wow, 35-10... that sounds a bit too lopsided for me

I think the key to the game are the hoss's...
Kmic and MUC's o-line vs. UWW's front seven
whoever wins that battle wins the game

Captain: In 2006 Alma's record was 6-4 (5-2). At various times I have seen MIAA games, and in my view the MIAA is an average to above average conference. Most probably the 2006 Alma team was an above average team in an average to above average conference.

Those two, in fact, are one in the same.  Chad Johnson is the QB from PLU, and although he did win the Stagg in 1999, SJU knocked PLU off in the region final the year he won the Gagliardi.  Chris Palmer from SJU also won the Gagliardi without winning a national championship.

Well gee....let's review.  Mount won in 2000...and 01.....and 02.....lost in 03......lost in semi's 04......WON in 05...back in O6.  On the way out?  YAH.....I can see now why THAT makes sense.

JE - the big difference between  this team and the 00/03 teams is DEFENSE.  Neither one of those two teams had near the speed and defense that this team has.  As they say......"defense wins championships".

Can WW win......definitely.   Can they win 35-10......NO.

Can WW win......

I doubt it.  I think they'd need an above average game from themselves and a poor one from MUC.

To apply what a wise, old coach told me many, many times to this game,  I think 3 things have to happen for UWW to win:

1.  MUC has to have a bad game.
2.  UWW has to play very well.
3.  UWW has to have a few big breaks go their way.

Not that it can't happen, though.  I'm hoping for a good game.

Last year I thought the Hawks would win but they weren't able to pull it off.  But let's review just how close that game really was.  UWW's loss could really be chalked up to 2 plays.  One big defensive breakdown and Kmic runs for a 95 yard TD.  Won't happen again with this years improved D.  Beaver scores from the 1 or 5 or whatever yard line, (don't exactly remember) a few plays before and it is a National Championship for UWW, 35-28.  Just think that having been there last year and the, "Revenge Factor," finally being in our favor for the first time in the play-offs, MUC needs to be alittle uncomfortable.  If the Hawks play well and D shuts down the run, the Hawks will prevail.  DEFENSE DOES WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS and ours have been the difference makers in alot of our game this year and they can do it again.  That and the O-line giving Jake time and Beaver/Pitz room!

Mount Union is clearly the D3 "gold standard."   They're beatable but it will take a monumental effort to do it and I seriously doubt 35-10 will be the final.  Personally, I think we've fielded a better team this year and they've been better tested coming into the game.   Will it be enough?  I hope so but we'll find out on Saturday.   Whatever way it turns out it should be a great game between two very good teams.   I know our guys consider it a privledge to be playing in a game of such significance and against an opponent with Mount Union's pedigree.

I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for it to begin.

Not exactly the same situation, but we played real tough against MUC (10-7) in the 2000 Stagg.  The next year, we played MUC in the semis and got stomped hardcore (35-14? - I'm trying to repress that memory).

Throw last year's game out the window.

The Pierre factor (if he truly cannot catch a ball like he could earlier this year) is a huge factor in the outcome of Saturday's game.

I think Mount Union showed a couple signs of being mortal over the past few games.  Their 2nd game against Capital, a 17-14 victory in the 3rd round, showed that the Purple Raiders don't win every game by 30+ or 40+.  They can be kept in check, as Capital showed us, and in my opinion, they can be beaten.

This same arguement can be made against the Warhakws in the 2nd round game versus La Crosse.

I think what it comes down to is that the team who scores more points is going to win on Saturday.
