Had a wonderful time in Virginia and want to post my congratulations to a great MUC team, (is there any other kind?)  LK is an amazing coach.  The Hawks were able to stay with Garcon and Co. for the first half once again but couldn't hang on.  The blocked punt was a dagger.  Kmic is a real class act.  Congrats to the Warhawks, the Seniors, Coach Brez  and the entire coaching staff on a fabulous couple of years.  You are the greatest team UWW has ever had and have succeeded in putting Warhawk football on the map.  I expect it will continue with all the promising talent just waiting for their chance.
Thank you so much to Pat Cummings, Pat Coleman, Keith Mc. and the rest of the D-3football.com organization for all the hard work you do.   To the people of Salem, Llama guy and Oline-mom, and all the folks at Stone Station,  you are all incredible and help to make the Stagg Bowl a very special environment.

So why aren't the U of W system football schools (other than Madison) Division 1AA or at a minimum D2?

Being a public university seems to be the exception in D3 (at least in the North and West Regions).

Why does Wartburg with a beuatiful football facility like that play in D-III?  How can the WIAC schools compete with that?

Watching you guys this weekend makes me think that the IIAC has a long ways to go to compete with a team like Whitewater. I thought your size and athleticism in the defensive front 7 was the biggest difference from the IIAC teams I watched this year. Of course Beaver isn't too bad either.
My question is this-In the last several years, I (and many others) believe the IIAC has lost out on talent to our D1 institutions in state and many sorrounding states D2 schools that are coming in with offers of "scholarships" that consist of very little money, but its a football scholarship. Our in-state D1 are getting lots of walk-ons because (other than this year) they've been relatively succesful the past 5 years or so.
How do you guys get the talent to stay and play at the D3's?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Don't know how this fits with your theory, WH, but one thing that is different between Wis. and Minn. is that Minn. has a pretty fair selection of d2s, plus a d-1aa right on the border in ND.  Wis. seems to be one d-1 and all d3, I don't think there's even an naia fb school in the mix. Not saying that's bad or good, just an observation.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the old NCC, once a great d2 conference, which is now going away. It seems that as the NAIA faded in Minny, state schools almost exclusively went d2, while privates were d3.

I think it comes down to keeping them as students, that they like their majors and the jobs that follow. If they do not start how do they see their future. Are they selling cars at the local lot, or working in the marketing Department at National Headquarters! Are they running the grader, or engineering the road? Are they getting their money worth for the high cost of education. If they do not earn a letter, do they still feel part of the team? Are they treated as important, even if they do not play in the varsity gamesIt is complex, but this is why I love D3. Blessings!

Now that the big game is over, and most of the UWW fans have returned, Who are the 4 finalists for the Head coach at UWW? I slept thru 40 minutes of the game, so i did not get the answer from the game. Also, what is the latest from UWRF FB? I tried to run down Ogrady leaving on the Internet, and found nothing? He is still a good coach, but may need to recruit some different type of players or go Back to the Bone? Blessings!

The main thing of course is that we just don't have any in-state scholarship football programs besides UW-Madison.  So if the Badgers don't want you, the options are stay at home and play at a relatively inexpensive D-III school, or take a scholarship (possibly a partial) to play in Minnesota or the Dakotas.  I think many high school kids in Wisconsin understand the quality of the WIAC and see that a little scholarship money might not be enough incentive to go far from home for a modest step up in competition.

Those D-II and I-AA schools in the Great Plains have discovered Wisconsin as fertile recruiting ground though.  WIAC coaches now battle NDSU, Northern Michigan, Winona State, etc. as much as they battle each other on the recruiting front.

I know Coach Novak has been getting some pretty decent talent from WI recently at NIU...
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

I think a lot of guys who get the DII offers to play in Minnesota would rather just stay in Wisconsin for a couple reasons.  They dont want to play out of state, they would rather play closer to home.  The scholarship amount isnt that much and you could make that up through financial aid.  But probably mostly because the DIII schools in Wisconsin are just as good if not better than most of the DII schools in Minnesota.  Didnt the WIAC win most of the Border Battle games?  I could be wrong but I thought they did.

I wonder if there is a reason that WW never played in those games?  It looks like all of the other conference schools did at least once.

Do you know anything about that, Bill?

At the time the NSIC had only seven football playing members so one WIAC school had to sit.  As I understand it, Whitewater volunteered to sit out entirely since they had the longest trip, and Brez already had non-conference games lined up.

Olinemom,

Thank you again for the brownies, they are absolutely amazing.  It means alot when someone from a different school or location supports you.

I was probably one of the first to come up to you when you were standing by the WW buses.  I wanted to say thanks and reached out to shake your hand, and instead got a hug.  I said that we'd be back.

My post isn't about the game, or just to thank you once again.  I was wondering if the recipe for those brownies is a family secret, or one that can be shared.   ;D

If you wish I would be willing to work out a swap.  I have adapted one of my mom's recipes to create what I believe is a pretty tasty mint brownie.  It has a layer of brownie, a layer of green mint frosting, and a top layer of chocolate frosting.  The middle green layer gives it an attractive presentation to go along with the taste.  If you want to swap send me a PM.  If the recipe is a secret I understand.

Thank you again for the support and the great tasting brownies.

Happy Holidays to all of the  WIAA posters from a humble (yeah, right) OAC poster--seriously, it was a great game and we would be honored to face another (or the same) WIAA team next year for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!
