Last night Paul Plinske AD at UW-Whitewater offered the head coaching job to Lance Leipold because Stan Zweifel failed "to connect with administration" during the interview process. The AD felt intimidated by Stan and decided to hire a coach he could work with rather than the best coach available. It is a shame for UW-W and their prgoram who had gotten to a new level BECAUSE of Stan–he had brought every current coach (except Brez) to UW-W and has recruited 95% of their playres for 16 years (including the 28-2 stretch).

Can anyone else verify this?

It's true......Players have been calling the house all morning....I am simply sick....In one idiotic move Whitewater football has become mediocre.....I will not set foot in the stadium again.....

Bowie over Jordan...Mandarich over Sanders...The "Heidi" game...all bad decisions...but Lance over Stan may be  the worst ever...

Wow!  Looks pretty qualified to me.

More than a 16 Year Assistant Coach who intimately knows the ins and outs of the current program and all the players?  Seems like a bad choice to me...

Wow! The coach selected is part of your family at UWW. I hope he retains coach Z, who I hope returns. God Bless!

Might be tough for coach Z to stay around after he was not offered the job...

Dito; hoever, Coach Z must love his job. But, it will be tough. he is a little long in the tooth, so maybe him staying would be the best. blessings!

When my son was recruited to NDSU, Bob Babich was head coach.  Right after the national signing day, Bob landed a job with Lovie Smith and left.  Instead of hiring the in house, very popular Casey Bradley, they went with Craig Bohl.  At the time the hire was not so popular, as the fan base liked Casey. But it has turned out to be an excellent hire.  Bohl did retain Casey for a couple years, although many thought he would leave.  Casey is now with the Tampa Bay Bucs.  The Bison went 10-1 this year and ended ranked #4 in the country.  Just some food for thought

Lance Leipold is highly qualified, and is a former Warhawk player and coach. I'll admit I'm a little suprised Z didn't get it, but life goes on. True Warhawk fans will put this behind them and support the new staff and team. If you can't do that, you are only hurting the players. I'd like to be the first to congratulate Coach Leipold, and wish him the best.(if it's true)
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Politics are a mutha.  I wouldn't be suprised to see Z not on the sidelines this year for the Warhawks.  I believe the administration got this one wrong.  I'm not happy about this one at all.  Good luck to Lance, however.

I wonder what Coach Brez's take is on all of this?

I echo these sentiments...hopefully the fans and players do not bail on this team given the achievements of the last two years...we probably will not know whether this was the correct choice for several years...besides, where we would we bail to...Mt. Union?....I don't think so  ;)
