I wonder if this type of big brother looking down on everyone's opinion's is really necessary.

If your opinion attacks people's characters based on perception and hearsay, you have to expect people to respond and defend.

BTW- I don't see anything on the WW website regarding the press conference. Am I blind?

C'mon people - we need an update.

Anyone?   Anyone?   Beuller??
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I have no association with any of the WIAC schools as I attended UW-Madison for the four greatest years of my life. AKA College, and know after being in the real world and being a lawyer for the past six years. I have come to several conclusions about this situation, as several of you have made statements without any proof.
1. Just because you have been some where 16 years doesn't mean you're the best man for the job. When I first got to my law firm one of the partners was retiring, and several other people who had been at the firm for over ten years all wanted to become the man to replace him. One guy got it the other three didn't. And the two that didn't decided to move one, as they didn't want to stay at the place they didn't become the partner. I bet this is what happens with this coach Zweifel.
2. Comments about the AD Plinske claiming he is a puss, and a wet towel. As well as being intimidated by coach Z. Please give us true examples of this happening.
3. Comments have been made about this DLK person who sounds like the big booster in town was on the hiring committee. Do you have any proof of this like a list of the hiring committee, as a state university can't release this type of information?
4. Comments have also been made about DLK buying the football team. Once again does anyone have proof of this happening, and can you prove it.
The reasons I bring these up is because of the fact that unless you can prove the statements that you have made and have proof that they have happen. It is hear say, unless any of you were on the committee and in the actual interview room when both Mr. Leipold and Mr. Zweifel interviewed you know what happen. All I can say without being in the room is that when it came down to it Lance did a better job, and that is the person that the hiring committee decided to hire.
I have made the decision to not bring your names into this, as I don't care who your are or what your screen name is. However unless you can prove what you have claimed it can be and in most cases will be considered liable.
So watch what you say, and just support your school especially if you're an alum, as one of the posters has been saying, the coaches always preached family well Lance is a member of the family having played at the university of Wisconsin Whitewater. Just like people in Madison supported Coach Bielema who might have not been the best man for the job, but was in the mine of the man making that decision Barry Alvarez.
Good luck to the new coach and everyone stay out of trouble

Wow screwdriver, perhaps a bit harsh, but you're right that if you're going to present those as facts you should provide evidence.
HOWEVER, I don't know that everyone on here has been presenting those as facts, I realize there are always a select few. So I'm going to go out on a limb here and respond to it.
As far as number one, we all know the differences in qualifications between Z and Leipold and Z had the better qualifications. In fact, for those of us who went to the open forum, we got their exact resume that they presented to Plinske. While Leipold's was very impressive, Z's was better.
Now, with that out as a reason for Z not getting hired, we are left searching for reasons, which leaves us with those final three things you posted there, you might want to call them conspiracy theories.
Plinske being a puss? he certainly comes across that way. I really only had one dealing with him and that was in the open forums. when he got up to speak in front of everyone he seemed very unsure of himslef and had trouble making eye contact with the people in attendance.  It is very understandable, then, that someone who saw that would draw that conclussion.
DLK is a big booster and has spent well into the millions for our athletic facilities, and it is known that he is rather turned off by Z. This is something I heard BEFORE the season even ended, that that could be Z's downfall. Even if DLK was not on that commitee, I would think that Plinske heard from him on this.
This is just my opinion on the situation, as most of this stuff you brought up I have no real hard evidence (it is kinda hard to provide that for someone being a puss). but as you can see based on some hard facts that have to do with the situation, it is easy to draw those conclusions.

O, and sorry kitchensink I don't even know what time the conference is at, I think someone posted that about a week ago. And I'm too sick to head over to the WC to see.

3 Point Play

Who is this DLK guy? Is he in the mob?? (I am assuming that he is untouchable or people would be using his name and not his initials).

Anyone?   Anyone?   Beuller??

I listened to the conference over the internet. Sounds like Leipold has a good idea of what is facing him-winning over the current coaches and players and continuing to build on the success of the program with solid recruiting. He said he would be contacting each current player and "recruiting" them again to stay with the program. He said he had a lot of respect for the current coaches. Didn't indicate which coaches would be staying on and which would be leaving. Indicated he would like to retire as the Warhawk coach since he doesn't like moving his family around.

and he also told how he was "promised" to be the next WW coach...just kidding...actually he told a story about how years ago someone told him that they though that he would be the next WW coach and how that has been his dream also

to follow up on his comments about recruiting...he indicated that WW has better facilities than a lot of DII schools and that it is important to get recruits...especially local recruits... out to the school and tour the facilities to see for themselves what WW has to offer

DLK (David L. Kachel) is a rich local bigwig, who seems to love to kibbitz upon UWW, especially the sports.

He's been around Whitewater for decades - my wife (back in the 70's) rented an apartment from him.  As to his character, well, .....  I can't say.  But others seem to have strong opinions.

What, in your opinion, makes Z more qualified?  I don't know his qualification other then being the WW o-coord.  I briefly checked out LL's bio and it seems as though he has experience at a lot of different programs.

First, I'm gonna do you a favor and throw out the sixteen years at the school hiring, kinda puts them on equal ground. So here goes, remember, this is my opinion, and as a college student, may be wrong. however, I played football for about 11 years and am currently a HS coach, so I know a bit about what I'm talking about. Also, they are pretty close, so youth MAY have been a deciding factor also, IMO.
Z has head coaching experience on the college level, though it was a few years ago, it is more than Leipold.
Though Leipold was on the staff a very good team (UW) at the infancy of the zone offense, Z knows it's ins and outs, his expertise in this offense is ridiculous. Something like two books and maybe thirty something videos on the subject and it's techniques. Although I'm sure LL knows alot about the zone offense, this stood out to me. This brings up another thing, in that it shows just how good of a teacher Z is when it comes to coaching. At the college level, especially D3, this is huge, IMO.
Recruiting ability was also a big difference, I think. While LL did do some recruiting he had scholorships on his side. He doesn't have much experience on this level recruiting talent (maybe three years, I think it is?). While Z has been very succesful on this level. He did do the Lion's share of recruiting in the past few years, if not more.
These are the major things that seperated the two. I do believe, though that LL had the upper hand in that he has been invlolved in some major programs. But, IMO, I think these three afforementioned things outweighed this one that LL had on Z.

Two thoughts on this whole WW coaching scandal.

1. Is it possible that although Z may have been the better candidate "football-wise" he lost out because of his attitude about the whole situation and did not get along with those in position of power (i.e the AD and major booster)?

2. Is a person more of a "wet-towel" if they let themselves be run over and hand a job to the person who is supposidly running them over, or if they stand up and give the position the less-desirable candidate?

Either way, I (unfortunatley) think WW will be a strong team again next year.  Coaches are hugely important, but it's the players that are actually on the field, and WW has some GREAT players on the 2007 team.

GO EAGLES!

After doing some research and looking at Stan's resume on the UWW website and then looking at Lance Leipold's resume on the press release. I think they are both well qualified. Yes Stan has been at UWW for 16 years and he according to a friend of mine who coaches in the Madison area and went to UWW learned the zone offense from the Wisconsin staff after the 1993 season which Lance was a member of.
During these sixteen years Lance has been an associated with the following programs Wisconsin 1991,192,1993 including the first big ten and rose bowl championship. 1995-2000 University of Nebraska Omaha,2000-2001 University of Nebraska including playing for the 2001 season BCS championship vs. Miami and then Nebraska Omaha again 2004-2006.
Stan has been at one place doing things the same way for 16 years. While Lance had been with three different programs in 16 years.
Doing things differently and learning how to do things differently which in any buisness is a big thing. As the more experiences you get the better prepared and the more ways you have to handle them when they become an issue.
As far as all the books and videos Stan has written and made. Big Whoop, I know several lawyers who have ben published over five dozen times and they are worth a squat in the court room. I won a case for one of my clients today against one who has been published over 50 times, and I have been a lawyer all of six years. Just because can write a book or two and produce some videos doesn't mean he is a good coach.I went to Law school at UW and the guy I beat out for the job went to Harvard. Does it mean he is better for the job ???? Obviously not.
Eagle_defender brings up a good point maybe it was his attitude that lost him his job. Getting along with your Boss according to 1 for 27 the puss and wet towel boy. As well as the big booster is important. Just like it is for me I need to get along with the judges who do my cases as well as all of my co-workers. Not just my clients.
I am all in favor of putting this to rest the jury a.k.a. the search and screen committee as well as the Judge "The wet towel Puss" have ruled on the case and Lance Leipold wins the head coaching job at UW-Whitewater. Stan Zweifel on the other hand loses and must go on in life and get over this. Hopefully he decides to take Lance up on is offer to stay on the staff. However from previous posts I have read it sounds like he and the O-Line coach have decided to leave the Whitewater program which is unfortunate as some of the veterans of his board speak very highly of these two gentleman.

Okay let's start talking football. Who are going to replace Justin Jacobs at QB for the hawks next year??
Who is going to replace Ryan Kleppe at defensive tackle next year for the hawks. I know that spring conditioning(football without pads) is three months away, and fall camp is seven months away, but those are two big positions that need to be filled for coach Lance and the Hawks.
Does any one have any ideas who it might be???
