No doubt WW's defense will be rock solid with all those guys back.  But Kleppe will be missed.  Those first few games could be key for WW as the new guys get their first shot.  Any late word on the Hawks 07 non conference schedule other than Azusa and UMHB?

For what it is worth here is my take on the 2007 Warhawks. They can and should be a way better team than people think they will be. For the most part two factors have to be replaced:(1) Quarterback---Razor or the freshman have to step up big time and replace Jake. You can't count on either being as good as Jake but what will be important is to not hurt the team a.k.a. Rex Grossman. (2) Leadership----Talent wise I believe the backups can fill in for the seniors but the seniors that are leaving were also the leaders of the team......some of the key juniors and underclassmen are going to have to grab the leadership roles and set the same type of examples set by those guys that are graduating and that will not be easy. There are some very talented underclassmen that have played behind all-americans that no one but our guys know about and they are capable of doing the job. Great to hear #1 is coming back----I always thought he was the most underrated player on the team......

Tom Lange is expected to be back for his 88th year of residence in Whitewater.  So we got that going for us, which is nice.

Yeah we'll be fine. I have a feeling that the nation will be shocked to see Griz and Benish play as well as they will next year as well as how good newcomers Scroedl, Riser, Ankley, Rich, Rindahl, Josh Jackson and Jordan Wells. Razor is a BEAST for a quarterback. He doesn't have the arm that Jacobs has but he knows how to use his arm, his scrambling ability, and his ability to escape tackles to complete passes. I think it was against Stout that he got into the game, escaped a tackler who had two arms around him, scrambled to the outside and then truck-sticked a defensive lineman. He's also one tough guy to get to the turf and I think it's going to be a great time watching him play.........given that I love to watch big hits especially when it's the quarterback that's doing it.

It looks like the Healing has begun. As to next year, you should win 7 to 9 games. As to Stagg3, the odds are against you. MountUnion may not even make it to stagg 3. Remember, enjoy the ride when you have it. However,, do not assume you will get back every year.Ilearned this as a UWP BB fan. Blessings!

The only team that can beat WW next year is WW.

Well, looking at the WIAC, I see that LaC had Srs at QB, 2 OL's, 1 TB, TE, 1 WR, 3 DL's, and 2 DB's.

Point had Srs at QB, TB, 3 OL's, 1 WR, 1 DL, 2 LB's and 2 DB's.

Platteville returns a lot - but they had Srs at QB, 3 WR's and 2 DB's.

So each of these teams has to replace their starting QB (if the 2-deeps on the websites can be trusted), plus some other key pieces.

Not to ignore Oshkosh, who was tied with PV - they had 3 Sr OL, TE, 2 DL and 2 DB.

I just looked quickly at Stout, RF and EC - significant grads, it would appear.  So the recruiting train should be pretty warm all around the WIAC.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I second that! While every play and every player for the full 60 minutes of a game adds up to a win or a loss, without Neil's kick-off return for a TD, we lose to UMHB and without his come-from-behind catch for a TD in the 4th quarter, we lose to LAX! Of, course, he didn't throw that one to himself, so thanks, Jake! (the team thing.) And he didn't block for himself during the return so again, (the team thing.)  :D  But still, underrated, a great offensive weapon for us last season and I am glad to hear he plans to return!!

Mrvicka, Wells, and Gifford should be able to do a helluva lot of damage in '07.  I'm looking forward to how it all plays out.

Listened to the Bob and Steve radio show this a.m. They asked Strop all the tough questions, suprised me. He pretty much answered the only way he could. Will be interesting to see how his team carries itself next year.

I read a few day ago that LAX will have a D1 transfer coming from Madison.  According to the Tribune he was an o-lineman for the Badgers but will play D-line for the eagles.  I also read that he is an outstanding wrestler.  Does anyone on the West side of the state know any more about him, or what type of impact he will have on the Eagles tea next year?

La Crosse always seems to do well year after year.  When I played there it was football season all year.  The coaches do an amazing job of empowering the seniors to take it upon themselves to lead throughout the off-season.  The weight room is packed, the track is full, and the past season's tapes are rolling; all without a coach in sight.  It's quite amazing.  I'm sure it's this way at a lot of the WIAC schools, I was just always amazed at the amount of time put in year-long at a non-scholarship school.  Maybe that's why the WIAC tends to whip the schlarships schools in August and September!

Old UWRF Coach Mike Farley always said, "It's a transfer league," meaning that there is a thin margin of talent that separates the league champion from everyone else.  More often than not, the factor that tips the balance is transfer talent that just shows up without benefit of much recruitment.  An unexpected windfall. as an economists would say.

Take UWW this year.  #1 tackler Tristan Borzick shows up from Illinois State.  #3 tackler Widuch came in from Wisconsin a couple of years ago.  Or La Crosse. QB Schumann came from Minnesota, OT Gyllin from Wisconsin, and DT  (Mayville guy) comes from Wiscosnin.  Or, Stevens Point: Cody Childs? Wisconsin. QB Borchart? Grand Valley State (???). Put the same combination of players on any three of the teams finishing below them and the standings could easily change.

My cynical side says  take away the transfer advantage and the dominance of some programs would decrease a lot.

The kids name is Mike Lenzendorf from Prairie du Chien.  Not exactly a D-1 transfer, as he was only a walk-on who never played a down.

I agree about the transfer process being a big factor but the quality of program dictates which program those tranfers choose.  The better program attracts the transfer talent IMHO. Same could be said for HS recruits.
