UWW has a drawing at last home game for a semester of free tuition to one student.  Students sign up, buy a T-shirt, I believe, and attend all home games to be entered.

That is a really cool idea!  That would get spendy at MIAC schools :o.

Ya, the ol' "private vs. public school issue."  Really, Duff, you should suggest it to the SJU administration.  I hear you guys have a problem with attendance..............  :o :o ;) :D ;D

the location of the stadium makes it very hard for students to get there on foot because of the river.  Can anyone confirm that?

Yes, I can confirm that the stadium is on the opposite side of the Fox River from the dorms.   So it is a hike between the two.  Plus parking is at a premium on the UW-O campus and that can make having a car on campus a luxury for many of the younger students who would tend to occupy the dorms.

But I think there's more involved that that because attendance at events in the Kolf Center isn't that good either and it's across the street from the dorms.

Sooo............. this message board is getting boring without talk of football or football going on.  Atleast gas is below $2.

The teams that have the stadiums far away from campus (Oshkosh, Point, Eau Claire) really suffer from lack of student support.  Not many of the younger students who live in the dorms want to walk to the stadium.  Most of them would rather just start drinking a little earlier.  I think the schools that have the stadium farther away from the dorms should either build a stadium closer (this would be difficult to do) or provide some sort of transportation to get the students involved.  Whats dumb about Oshkosh is the players have to even drive to get to the practice fields.

If you wanna be good practice till you get it right, if you wanna be great practice till you cant get it wrong..

I'm not looking for Titan Stadium to start selling out anytime soon. So what Oshkosh gets for a crowd should be pleasing enough.

Anyways...the UW-Oshkosh is attempting to get more coverage on their teams, than fans in the stands.

Everyone would love there gyms and stadiums packed, but after several years of failing to do that, the Oshkosh athletic department has switched gears.

Now, they've helped invest into Titan TV Sport's stream. Next season you'll be able to watch all of the football games via the internet. Plus, soccer games, volleyball games, baseball, and basketball.

Also, it's not like most stream's where its a one camera set up with the PA announcer. It's taking exactly what TTV Sports puts out via cable and streams the games.

I think it's a good way of trying to create some excitement within the community and the fan base in Oshkosh. I mean, what would you rather do....watch a Packer game on TV or go to a Packer game?

Any sports fan would rather BE at a game, than watch it on the internet or TV. Though, by first watching it, perhaps that will encourage them to attend.

I don't think anyone who speaks to Z. on a regular basis should be commenting on what offers he has has or where he is interviewing.....

Oshkosh does offer a free shuttle service to and from campus for football games. Buses run every 20 minutes beginning an hour and a half before kickoff.
The students turn out for big games. The Whitewater game was well-attended. Even the La Crosse game, despite it not meaning anything for Oshkosh, had a nice hometown crowd by Oshkosh standards.
But you're right. Students are apathetic toward athletics at Oshkosh. Even the good men's basketball teams, which play less than a 10-minute walk from any dorm, draw high-end crowds of around 1,000 in a 5,500-seat venue. A campus of over 11,000 students can do better than that.
Football has a lot working against it. Not the least of which is the team has never contended for anything.

Thanks for the info on the shuttle service.  Figured they had already tried to solve that problem.

Another thing that hurts is lack of decent tailgating area. Plus, no drinking in the parking lot.
