There may be hiring commitees for the head coach in DI but after he gets the job, it's his job to hire everyone else, isn't it?
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Bobo, 17 years of service isn't always a bad thing.  It can be a good thing too.  Look at Larry Kehres and Bob Berezowitz as prime examples.

I was referring to assistant coaches when commenting on the 17 years of service at one school, not head coaches who stay a long time at one school.  I agree it's not always a bad thing - it's just not part of the normal landscape of college athletics, esp. football.

But does the hiring committee look at that fact and get encouraged by a guy who put 17 years in at one instituiton and look at this as a reason to believe that the coach they are about to hire isn't going to use NIU as a stepping stone to "greener pastures"?

I don't think that matters. Any reasonably person, intelligent enough to serve on a hiring committee should know from the nature of the business that a football coach at a school such as NIU uses it as a stepping stone.  How can that fact be disputed?  BTW, did you notice the new guy hired at UNI as OL Coach, Harold Etheridge, has 18 years al OL Coach at now his 5th school in those 18 years - 3rd school since 1999??? http://niuhuskies.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/012907aaa.html

I think that might be the case.  Look at his new hirer at OL Coach.  The fact that he's moved more than ALLIED didn't seem to get in the way of being hired.  I think 17 years leaves many more questions to answer to.  I think it all comes down to who you know and being in the right place at the right time.

For instance, the new offensive line coach at the University of Minnesota is a former d3 head coach with a mediocre record who has never coached an offensive line in his life.

Isn't it easier for D3 head coaches to move up to D1 assistant positions?

Novak Quote from the Northern Star (NIU Student Newspaper):

http://www.star.niu.edu/articles/?id=35305

QuoteThe 12-year coach is preparing to interview candidates to replace Bond. Of these potential replacements, some are coordinators at BSC programs, while others are former head coaches.

"I've got about seven or eight who have contacted me. I've particularly contacted two or three," Novak said. "We're always pleased with our coaching hires."

Doesn't appear he is looking at D3 coaches to fill the position.

To those of you familiar with the Franklin Outlaws, we recently produced and released our 2006 Highlight tape.  It is approximately 20 minutes long, and included 5 of our games from last year, including the Muskego Hitmen, Burlington Blue Devils, Roscoe Rush, Fond du Lac Crusaders, and Milwaukee Venom.

There are a lot of former UWW players on our roster, including Chad Nimm, Jim Leszczynski, Trey Bell (until the Chicago Rush got him), and many others.  We also had a lot of guys play for us who only played at UWW  for a couple of years.  Jo Jo Moore is an example of one of those players.  Jo Jo (RB-#1) makes a lot of highlight looking plays on a regular basis for our team.  He played at UWW for one year before deciding to focus soley on getting his degree.  If he had played for UWW throughout the remainder of his career, it makes me think that it's possbile that the outcome of the Mount Union game might have been different.  ::) ::) I'll let the tape talk for itself.

We also have a few other notable players on our roster.  Despite our Whitewater roots, former unanimous-WIAC La Crosse defensive end Jon Walters plays for us, and is one of the leagues best defensive players.  Former Beloit Memorial and Wisconsin-star Darius Jones is on our roster as well.  They make one of the best DE tandems in the state, regardless of the level of competition.

To view the tape, you'll need to do two things:

1.  Download Google Video Player (this is free and easy): http://video.google.com/playerdownload

2.  Download the game itself: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-703367148132447505&q=franklin+outlaws&hl=en

For any former WIAC guys who are looking to continue playing football at a high and competitive level and are living in the Milwaukee area, shoot me a PM.  If you'd like to play, but aren't in the Milwaukee area, check out our league website and see if there is a team in your area.  If there is, I'll get you in contact with the appropriate people.

Any of you guys heard of Schmidt beer? Its my understanding it was brewed in Wisconsin someplace. Didn't Hamms buy out the recipe for fear of competition?

Schmidt was originally a Minnesota beer.  Here's a link to read about their beginnings and endings:

Yea, Schmitt big mouths.  Came in a bottle the shape of a keg.  Peel off the metal top and you had a two inch diameter opening to drink out of.  I think that superbly engineered opening made us not swallow as much air so we could drink more with less gas.
The real problem was with the razor sharp metal top.  Those things became lethal when under the influence.

Wow, 47 pages of reading later.  That'll teach me to take a small leave of absence during Interterm--the time of the 3 hour-a-day class.  This year our wonderful (not) administration gave us one day between the Interterm and the spring term.  Oh well,  I had already read about the tragic death of Matt Pagel and send my condolences.  And the young man with the brain aneurism whose name I can't put my finger on at the moment.  It should make us all aware of how lucky we are that our families have not had such tragedies as these,  Young people aren't supposed to die like that.  But nothing is fair in life.  As I think I have been reading over the past 47 pages.
UWW212--a quick note.  I sent you the brownie recipes you had requested back in Dec. today.  I had a snow day and was able to get my act together and get back on the boards.  Let me know if you got the e-mail.  I am awaiting the recipe you promised to exchange!!  It sounded yummy to me.
To all the UWWW people.  Let me thank you all for a great time down in Salem.  I enjoyed meeting all of you at the cocktail party and going down town with you as well.  Thanks to Mr. Jacobs for the veggie trays and dips your daughter brought by to Stone Station on Stagg Bowl Day.  Speaking of, what a great day we all had.  The tailgate scene was a blast.  Thank you again for making it memorable for all of us!  We so enjoyed cheering for your team this year!! Last year we were on the other side.  But this year we were on the 50 yard-line rows 1-2 with our red and gold gear and the big STONE STATION sign screaming for Justin Jacobs, my PETER SCHMIDT (do your best at the combine!!!!!), Justin (every time you got hit, I cringed thinking about your collarbone!!) , AJ, Ryan (thanks for the hug after the banquet!), Neil, Derrick.  I was hoarse for days afterwards!! I sure hope you liked the brownies!!  They were made with love. We were still in the parking lot until 10:30 and later, having a good old time.  Thank you, Diane, for the beautiful hat and boa.  I love them!!
I was wondering, as I heard over that weekend that the senior parents were going to do something really special for the seniors after the big banquet, did your plans work out?  I sure hope so.  It sounded like such a fantastic idea!!  Oh before I forget, congratulations on all the awards and honors all the players received after the season.  Justin-- College Male Athlete of the Year in Wisconsin-Wow!   All-Americans all over the place.  I am so proud of how you all did.  I still think the O-Line was the best I saw this year.  And I can't wait til next year to see you guys (minus the seniors  :'( :'( :'() play again.  I really enjoyed the TV stream from WW--really great.
Well it's a school night and, although I think we'll go in late tomorrow due to the ice storm, I still need some sleep, I had better get off now.  Just think  Baseball was supposed to have started Tuesday and we celebrated with 3" of ice.  Terrific (NOT!!)  But the worst is . . .THERE IS NO FOOTBALL!!   I repeat,  THERE IS NO FOOTBALL!!  What is wrong with this picture??  I'll leave you on that note.  Later-Olinemom
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

I have a shorter note that you WW folks might find interesting.  Your "GUY" is the new  O coordinator at RF.  Write it down.  It is a done deal.
