Goal Line Stand

I believe scouts care very little about who ran for how many yards or who played behind a good o-line or who had the better QB to work with or who dominated at the D-3 level.  They want to know how tall they are, how much the weigh, 40 time, shuttle run, vert leap, bench, etc.  There are too many variables with all of it except the results of those agility and speed tests.  It is their way of comparing apples and oranges.  The knock against D-3 players is that they don't compete against D-1 talent.  All four share that disadvantage.  It comes down to if a player is fast enough, big enough and smart enough to compete in the NFL at their position.

Oh, get off your high horse.  Southern Oregon (NAIA) was negotiating with UW-WW for weeks waiting for an answer.  Plinske was nervous about SOU blasting Azusa this past fall and ended the talks.

Excuses for why people couldn't perform thats just loser talk, no wonder stout is such a power house.

I agree with Goal Line Stand on this one.  Scouts don't really care much about how an athlete performed at the DIII level, they care more about their athletic ability.  A prime example is the late Matt Pagel.  During Matt's senior season he barely broke the 200 yard rushing barrier, and had even fewer yards in each of his previous seasons.  Still, because of his athleticism not his stats he signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.  Englebert and Wendt didn't have great seasons, but because they are explosive athlete's they are drawing some interest and will get a shot.  Then you take a guy like Justin Beaver who is a great DIII running back stats wise, but he will probably not get a shot because he doesn't have the raw numbers or size to do so.

Remember the name Samkon Gado.... he didnt start in high school or college and didnt put up any kind of stats but he still got a shot at the NFL... so obviously stats dont matter if you have all the intangibles

I never said anything about stats, i was just pointing out that neither is really that good.

O'Reilly = Cancer.  Get the hell out of here.

Goo 62

Stanley, Schmidt, and Wendt are the only 3 that have a chance of making a team.  Englebert has no chance.  Stanley and Schmidt had unbelievable careers and Wendt had a good one.  Scouts look at things other than just numbers.  That is why every NFL team came to see both Stanley and Schmidt practice during the year.  This whole Werner thing is a joke, he should just stick to basketball.

Madhawk

I do not think Werner has any chance of playing in the NFL.  But, I have to disagree with Goo 62, if Englerbert had no chance than why would NFL teams want to work him out?  He put up combine numbers that were in the top 10 at the tailback position for this years class, I think he will get a shot with some team.  I hope all 4 get a shot, they are all good kids who deserve it.  Make the WIAC proud.

Perseverence.  That's what Jesse Wendt and Ryan Englebert stand for.  Both these guys had to come back from major injuries that alot of others would have quit from.  I'm hoping one or both get some sort of shot as they surely deserve it.
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

I agree with Madwawk!! A 4.48 and 27 reps is very impressive for a running back, especially one that was told in 03 that he would never walk normal again.  I had the pleaure of meeting Ryan about 2 years back and I was very impressed with how down to earth and polite he was.  I am def. pulling for him, along with the other three.

I searched back a couple months and found this post.  This shows Engleberts extra motivation, and also should prove to all of us how much it mean to him.  Good luck Ryan--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I received the call this morning at 6:30AM from Matts brother informing me on what had happened to him.  I thought for sure I was still dreaming, and this was just a horrible nightmare.  However, it wasn't long before reality set in and realized that I had lost my very best friend.  For you guys that weren't blessed enough to meet Matt, he was the most amazing person on this earth.  He was a hard worker, he was loyal, he was tough, and he was the best friend a guy could ever ask for.  I have been best friends with Matt ever since the 8th grade and have learned so much from him through out the years.  He cared deeply about everyone and would do anything possible to make his friends and family happy.  I remember like yesterday when I was involved in my car accident three years ago, Matt's voice was the first I heard from my hospital bed when I awoke from surgery.. He had called my hospital room and told me he was coming to visit me and didn't care that he was going to miss his football game on that Saturday.  I had to talk him into staying and playing rather than driving 5 hours to visit me in the hospital.  Thats the kind of guy and friend he was.  He cared deeply about football however it didn't even come close to matching his passion and loyalty for his friends.  Having talked to him two days ago, Matt was very excited about his next opportunity to play football with the Destroyers.  Matt felt good, and was determined to make the team and continue playing the game he so loved!! I'm so sorry that he never got the chance to live out his dream!!  But Matt, I know you are still with me, and I know you have always been one of the few people out there that has always believed in me and thought that I could play beyond college.  I remember like it was just yesterday when we were in high school talking about how it was our goal to play in the NFL together.  Well Pags, I want you to know that I am going to give it everything I possibly have to allow you to live your dream through me.  Everything I do in my life from here out, is dedicated to you big guy!! much love!! Your boy will always have a special place for you in his heart!!

First of all, I just have to say that Goo 62 is just a moron and I don't have much better to say about Warhawkclownshow.  Hey smart guy, if Englebert didn't have a chance, then why was he even invited to workout?????  You are just jealous and bitter because you are someone who would rather see an awesome running back like Englebert fail then succeed.  There are so many out there like you, it's pathetic.  After everything that kid had to overcome, it's truly amazing that he has the opportunity to play at the next level.  He has the talent, the knowledge, and the toughness to play at the next level and I wish him the best.  I wish all of them the best.  There's so many negative people in this world like Goo 62, that's why this world is falling apart.  People who would rather see others fail then succeed, it's just sad.   Let me just tell you this about Englebert, if he does get a shot with an NFL team, he will be the one who will make the most out of it because he's got the most heart and determination and that's more important then any stat or test.  And one other thing, he has a special friend motivating him from above.
