only 10 more days until 1 of the only 2 things that is better than WIAC football... THE NFL DRAFT!!!! The other one that is better is the NFL season.  Any input from anybody about the draft?

College football is so much better than the NFL.  Not as many prima donnas...

Stevens Point profile in respnse to coachnme (just one old Pointer's opinion):

Hotels:  There's a brand new Holiday Inn and Convention Center and a nearly brand new Holiday Inn Express on Hwy 10.  Closer to campus I like the Country Inn and Suites.  (Not to be confused with the Country Springs Hotel, which is the old Holiday Inn. It was kind of dumpy the last time I was there).  Comfort Suites is very nice too.  I've found the Best Western to be a little hit-and-miss.

Restaurants:  The Hilltop is kind of the standard bearer for pre-game and post game burgers and meals.  Although it's kind of a chain I like Grazie's as well.  Bill's Pizza is a mom-and-pop pizza shop located downtown.  For something nicer try Michelle's Supper Club right next to campus.  For a good traditional, Wisconsin, Friday Fish Fry, take your pick!  It's hard to go wrong.

Bars:  On football days, Partner's Pub has the most action.  Final Score, Guu's on Main and Ella's are a few of my favorites.

Things Point is known for:  If you have the time, a tour of the Point Brewery is a must (free samples).  UWSP has one of the nation's top College of Natural Resources.  Chances are if you meet a forest ranger, he's from Point or works with/for someone from Point.  UWSP is also home to the nation's largest Trivia contest, a 56-hour binge of useless knowledge that attracts people from across the country each spring.  Sentry World is one of Wisconsin's top public golf courses (at least until Whistling Straits was built).

I can't stand the draft.  8 picks over two hours, and seven of them will be guys I've never heard of.  I don't know how people watch it for hours on end.  After 10 minutes I want to poke my eyes out.

I would have to say that the NFL draft is one of the best sports event in the world.  Where else can you talk about NFL football for two straight days?  I love it.  As for the NFL being pre madonnas, come on just cause their are like 5 guys who are doesnt mean the whole NFL is.  And how is college football better when they determine a national championship game with a formula from a computer?  Give me a break.

CaptainKurt

Find one of those games to play while guys get drafted, and do a shot for everytime Mel Kiper says certain tag words like "upside", "character risk", etc.

Well, this is a DIII message board, and I definatly like watching DIII ball than NFL.  Playing for the love of the game.  How many NFL players won't go back in and play hurt cause they are worried about their future.  Not blaming them, just the situation they are in.  I agree with Just Bill, way too boring to watch the draft live.  TiVo it and Fast Forward to each of the picks so you don't have to listen to all the broadcasters trying to fill time with all the "What If" situations.

CK, how about a double shot everytime he says "great value at this point in Round #."

You won't see 5pm.  ;)

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

There is only one thing that I hate about the NFL draft.  That would be Chris Berman.  I cant stand him.  Everything else that goes with the draft I love.

CaptainKurt

Take two drinks for each of the following:

Your team's picks scroll by on the ticker.

Jets fans boo their first-round pick.

Whenever ESPN cuts to a team's war room. (Drink three times if it's the Cowboys' or Redskins' war room .)

Camera shot of draftee at home with family.

Draftee at podium is wearing an obnoxiously colored suit (green, purple, yellow, sharkskin), a derby hat or hopelessly gaudy jewelry.

Draftee at podium pulls on jersey of new team with number "1" on it.

Kiper calls a pick a "steal" because he had him listed higher on his draft board.

Chris Berman segues from a pick with a contemplative pause and then says something like, "Hmmm ... an interesting pick for [team] at this stage of the draft."

A player from a college you've never heard of is picked.

CaptainKurt

Drink one for these.  You'll sh*t your pants by 5:00 pm.

Tremendous upside."

"Best athlete available."

"Drafting for need."

"Intangibles."

"Physical specimen."

Any mention of the scouting combine.

40-yard dash times, bench press, vertical leap.

If a player is described as a "project."

Though he is probably going to be a top 5-6 pick Joe Thomas has indicated that he won't be present.  Seems he and his father had a fishing trip planned for that weekend.
