Just to clarify two points....

1. DLK was NOT on the UW-WHITEWATER "hiring committee."   He was on the search committee who's job it was to screen the applications and recommend the finalists.  While the search committee did eliminate candidates they didn't hire anyone.

2.  Any athlete who rents from DLK signs the same lease and pays the same rent as any other DLK tenant.   We're not that stupid and DLK isn't that free with his money.

Boy, do we love to just assume the worst these days.  Steve Terrry is an AD.  His wife is a very successful, competent, and well respected real estate agent.  It stands to reason that she would rent to college students, athletes, and everyone else who pays the rent.  My question is why was Steve's name even listed in the paper and why are we even talking about this.  A good man will probably lose his job because all the rest of us are perfect watch dogs with the ability to make sure nobody catches a break that we didn't get a chance at.  It makes me sick.

Stout Guy,
I think they mentioned Steve Terry's name because people will recognize it more then his wife's. Just like when Chad Alvarez microwaved his fraternity brothers parrot they said son of Wisconsin football coach Barry Alvarez Chad Alvarez was arrested. It's wrong but it makes for a better headline as the name is more recognizable.
As far as DLK was concerned he might have not been the guy to hire people. However he did take each candidate out to lunch during the interview process. This to me seems a little fishy. Why would the administration allow a very influential booster take the candidates out for lunch????
Why not just let Badgerwarhawk take them out to eat, as it sounds like he is a big booster of the warhawk football program.
Gotta beat the best to be the best otherwise your just one of the rest

DLK and the Stout AD are linked, not because they rent to athletes, but because they have the discretionary power to offer preferential treatment to athletes (read: low rent/no rent).  At the Division I level these kind of relationships are investigated and punished all the time.  This rising stink will be be teasing Gary Karner's olfactories any day now--if it hasn't already.

So, kestrel, having discretionary power is what links those two???   ??? ??? ???  That's a real stretch.
Just a hint, have you considered that the rising stink you smell might be coming from something else???   ;)

When will the Whitewater people get off their whining about the coach hiring.

BoBo, whether you like it or not, anyone connected to athletics who rents to a student-athlete has that power, whether in southeastern Wisconsin or western Wisconsin.

I have rental property in a university community, and yes I do rent to athletes, as well as other students.  I also support my school financially.  Being in a position to have the discretionary power being discussed (whether I use it or not), using your logic, I would be guilty by association and should be punished.  Gimme a break, Pat, that's wrong and you know it.

As a matter of fact, I know quite a few athletes that have leased from a DLK owned property and they payed every dime of rent and then some..............something about needing new paint and a broken chair, I believe!!! ;) :D ;D ;D

How do you know they didn't?? ;)  Seriously though, as I understand it, there was a home/home contract with SJU set for the 02/03 season.  The Hawks traveled to the Johnnies in 02 but in 03, Coach Gags asked out of it and Coach Brez let him out.    But that is just a rumor I heard.  Don't quote me on it.  But, at this point, I doubt it would be the Hawks that would balk at a rematch!! ;D

BoBo

I don't think that is a rumor,GLS.  I heard an interview that I believe was broadcast prior to the 05 SJU/WW playoff game in which Coach Brez indicated just that.  SJU coach asked out and WW obliged.  I tried to quickly scan the WW website archives for but wasn't able to find it. I also agree with you on your last point.

Thanks for the confirmation, Bobo.  Wasn't sure where I had heard that.
