As for Danny Jones maybe he is looking for the same thing Garcon was looking for a chance to play with a team that has been to the Stagg Bowl and a shot at the "League".....it worked well for Stanley and Schmitt. If he has no inspirations for the NFL just getting to the Stagg Bowl and the National Championship experience is well worth a year in Wisconsin....The last two years were absolutely great fun......Here is hoping Jones or whoever the QB is can get us back to Salem......

I'm shocked.  I mean Danny Jones played basketball for the Badgers like 25 years ago.  He's gotta be almost 50 years old.

QuotePart of it could be because he might not have hit it off with the new coach or the style of play he wanted. Just a guess.

UWW has a new coach.

Most players who transfer play for a new coach.

The weather was my first thought. D. Jones is from high school near San Francisco and CLU was much hotter. Can he hang tough practicing in the brrrrr! and get used to those famous special cleats?

Perhaps Occidental will get to the playoffs as well and D. Jones will get his first win out of 4 against them.

Danny Jones is quoted in the story about the new coach coming in:

Cal Lutheran junior quarterback Danny Jones expects a seamless transition under McEnroe.

"We all think he is the perfect guy for the job," Jones said. "He understands where the program is at and that we don't need to rebuild. All our guys are locked and loaded and ready to hit the ground running."

??
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Looks like the chance at a ring and the next level were good guesses.  Hope a California boy can play in the cold and snow.  The east coast boys sure seemed to have trouble  ;D

Another quote from the SCIAC board:

"it official, i just spoke with danny jones, he is transferring! he says the money is tight and i can understand that from how much it is to live in thousand oaks and go to school there. big loss for cal lu! i dont know if they will recover from that. he also wants a chance to play at the next level somehow and they do get more national attention (as east coast schools do) than cal lu. i can understand his side. he wants the best situation for himself to get to the next level and win a championship."

I meant the interior defensive line.....

Defense will be solid.  While you can never replace a Kleppe, replacing Jacobs/Stanley is a bigger problem, IMHO........................ but maybe not as big as we first thought!!   ;D ;) ;)

If I'm right, OTA's are training sessions with the team as well as several practices a week.  The team will typically install much of the playbook in these sessions leading up to the mini camps which are held in June.  Idk why the Bengals would have OTA's starting that late in June.

To attend OTA's players will typically be on the roster.  Did Englebert sign a contract with the Bengals or did they say he has a chance of maybe coming back??...I also haven't heard if Wendt was coming back

Sorry for the late reply, been in the office all week and had limited time on the net.  OTA stands for Optional Team Activity.  They are not "required" per say, but "encouraged".

OTA stands for Organized Team Activity actually.

OTAs used to be called "practices."  The term Organized Team Activity came about when NFL coaches started bending rules (imagine coaches doing such a thing).

The NFL used to mandate X number of practices, so coaches figured lifting, conditioning, meetings and film didn't count.  Now the NFL mandates X number of OTAs and includes any kind of mandatory practice, workout or meeting.

Defense will be fine. We will have a rather young D-Line with the exception of CAPTIAN OGRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZOVICH (in my best Michael Buffer voice) but the linebackers will be a GREAT squad with probably one (possibly two) all-american selections next year. The entire secondary returns and I hear that they are really making strides in both speed, agility, explosiveness and strength this offseason. The defensive line will be fine and the rest of the defense will be great. I don't know what to say about the offense because I'm less familiar with that but from what I know they will be more than alright. The train keeps moving!!!

Pat,
I am not sure but was your question a loaded one?  Garcon did want to play for a winning program by his own admission. He had seen MUC in the Stagg Bowl (REALLY?) There is a good article in the "Features" section by Mark Simon from Sept 28, 2005. He was invited to Norwich at a recruiting fair in Fla. He was AC in the Empire 8 as a freshman. I thought I had heard there was a coaching change at Norwich which also played into his decision but that is not confirmed. He was part of an early collection of Fla kids comming to Mount. The article said there were 8 kids from Fla on the roster in '05 but he was the most proficient. Why would kids in Fla want to play football in OHIO...hmmmmmm??

Sakman111
I would tend to agree he may have been looking for additional exposure for the next level and it doesn't get much better than MUC in the Stagg for D3. WW is getting some of that same pub too. He did have some D1 thoughts but that did not work out. I hate when that happens. ;D

Badgerwarhawk,
You were partially right but the frequent flyer miles were not as critical as the fact that he would not have broken into the line-up with the Raiders.
Can you say Greg Micheli? '06 Stagg Bowl MVP.
I don't know this for sure but I would also think LK would be very hesitant to bring in a mercenary for a one year deal. Garcon came in as a sophomore.
Yes he has one more year!!! Sorry.

Can you say KMIC?

All I know is that Schmitt and Stanley to the pros and California QB's transferring to the Warhawks have me making plans for next year. Looks like road trips at least to LaCrosse and Menominie......maybe St. Cloud. I think I will actually enjoy the games more this year without some one playing. It's May and I am psyched!!! Pound the Rock!!!........
