Good news for the WIAC schools who actively recruit Minnesota.  The two states have resolved the resciprosity issues that threatened the program and the program will continue.

For anyone interested....http://www.gazetteextra.com/uminntuition062207.asp

I'm sure River Falls, Stout and EC are glad to hear they worked things out.  It would have been a big hit for those three not to be able to recruit from Minn.

Does anybody know if there is a roster out for the US team traveling to Japan?  Also will there be the possibility to see any of the games.  It would be great to see some football besides ESPN Classics.
Has anybody heard who the teams in the WIAC will be scrimmaging in August?

Just picked up a copy of Street & Smiths College football 2007. Brief but well done reports on all their top 25 D3 teams.  1.  MU...2  SJU...3 St John Fisher.. 4 Whitewater  (West region)..10 Whitworth..11  Bethel...12 Occidental..16  Central.. 18 Wartburg...20 LaCrosse...21 Linfield.  Interesting read..well worth the $6.   Especially liked their number two pick..

In addition to our three WIAC guys, Team USA has three other players from Wisconsin:

Matt Ludeman, DE/DT, Western Michigan, Oak Creek, WI
Greg Aker, WR, Minn.-Duluth, Superior, WI
Demetrius Eaton, LB, Northwestern, Milwaukee, WI

I'd say the Badger State is well represented.

Coach Leipold made the 4.5 hour trek up I-94 to attend the Minnesota high school coaches recruiting fair last month.  Was he more interested in (1) establishing a Warhawk presence in the Gopher state or (2) despoiling Stan Z's soon-to-be new stomping grounds?  When asked, Lance was rumored to have replied, "Paul sent me."

I think the reciprocity agreement has importance way beyond the effects on sports.

Minnesota had a valid complaint.  I'm glad the issue has been resolved.

I've heard that River Falls will scrimmage LaCrosse.

Kind of, but the discrepency was really Minnesota's own fault.  Their state legislature raised tuition much faster than Wisconsin's did.  That's not Wisconsin's problem.

Wisconsin did the right thing by agreeing to renegotiate rather than risk the long term dissolution of the agreement, but they certainly didn't have to.  I think MN owes WI a big thank you for helping them out.

kestrel, Ok, I'll bite on your sarcasm...my guess is #1. He had a few guys from the Twin Cities area on the UN-O roster and maybe he was renewing acquaintances. Not to mention, when the Head Coach from the reigning 2-time national finalist wants to attend your event, I'm sure the Minn. HS Coaches Assocation are more than happy to have him in attendance.  I'm sure Coach Leipold understands that the Twin Cities can be a productive area in recruiting.  Last year, WW goes to Iowa to recruit a kicker - who just happens to earn All-American honors.  This year (or years to come), only time will tell if his or his coaches and alumni efforts will pay off in Minn.  I think as you succeed, you can easily extend your reach into new geographical areas that are still relatively close to your campus. Why not Minn?  As you say, it's only 4.5 hours from WW.  Anyway, good luck to Stan Z in his recruiting efforts, too.  A strong, competitive WIAC football race is good for all of us.

Odds are that the coach is far more interested in,"establishing a Warhawk presence in the Gopher state," considering that he has been coaching for the last three years in a conference with no less than 3 Minnesota teams in it.  I think it is a great idea.  The Hawks can give UW-LC,  UW-RF and SJU some competition!!    8)

Agreed, Just Bill.  I never understood why this issue couldn't be settled quickly.

Let me help you understand, chmarx.  Legislative stubbornness, pigheadedness, narrowminded, obstinate, and inflexible just to name a few reasons.  I can name more reasons upon request! :)

Another problem Minnesota had is that the money they received went into a general fund and not to the university system.  Whether that played into their larger tutition increases I don't know but the money we received went to the university system.  However it's in the best interests of both states that the matter be resolved and the program continued so I'm glad to see it get done.

BoBo, we didn't go to Iowa.  Iowa came to us.  But I agree with you.  It doesn't hurt to establish contacts in new areas.    You never know what's going to come out of them.
