Just my opinion, but I do know that a lot of people work very hard to raise the funding that has put UWW into the upper echelon in regards to athletic facilities. I also know for a fact, that many local and regional corporate interests are extremely valuable marketing partners with UW-Whitewater and Warhawk athletics.  That is a very important reason that the UWW athletic complex is among the best in the nation.

Voice,

Is the video board going to be about the same size as the one at Linfield?  It appears close in scale but just a different configuration.

It's a cool deal for the Mass Communications program too...those students will get some great experience in running the equipment.

The scoreboard itself is 39' by 32'.  I video display board, which is the same technology as Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.  Due to the age comparison between Linfield's and UWW's, our board will have more upgraded technology. I know we can run our corporate marketing partner's commercials on the board.
It was actually our trip out to Linfield in the 2005 playoffs that allowed us to realize that having "D1 type technology" at a D3 school.  We were very impressed
with Linfield's facility... it was a very memorable weekend!  Lets do it again this year, but  this time you guys come to Wisconsin so you can see OUR facility

You may be unaware, wildcat11, but the UWW students already have quite a sweet running televsion network. Their game broadcasts, which I have been an active viewer the past few years, bear that out.  But, yes, this development can only inhance their hands on experience (if they are operating the equipment) & maybe this technology can help out students as a whole, not just in recruiting football players (good point & one that I failed to consider earlier).

It sounds like a nice toy, and I wouldn't be surprised if it helped recruit football players.

Which money-bags donor is paying for the scoreboard??  Any ideas??  ???

As for it's funding, looking at the concept picture, there are many panels for advertising, plus as voice indicated, paid commerical advertising on the video screen itself.  I don't have any idea what something like this costs to purchase, install and maintain, but normally, aren't these things usually purchased through advertising revenues?  Does it really matter if donors also contribute $$$?

I am and have been happy for the WW because of their most recent accomplishments and especially in representing the WIAC in football the last two years.  But in all honesty, if you where a newcomer on here, you would think that Whitewater has dominated the WIAC like Mount Union has the OAC for the last 2 decades or so.  Please, take advantage of your sucess and get all those upgrades to your athletic facilities because you're still in the WIAC where your only 1 loss away from not making the playoffs.  I'm sure WW will be the overwhelming favorite for 2007 and are deserved but before the last 2 years, how many times has WW made the playoffs in football?
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Before the last two years, what was the postseason reputation of the WIAC? :)

If there's some jealousy on the part of the rest of the conference, I think it might be worth remembering that the conference was pretty much known as playoff chokers from 1999-Nov. 2005

I don't get that feeling you have, pastprime.  And from reading what others write, I believe very few of the WW contributors here lately have the veracity to express ideas like that either. Sure, there are some that still feel the urge to beat their chest for WW, but most seem to live in the real world and understand the pecking order.  Many people learned a valuable lesson during the 2005 run that you can run your mouth without any negative results, especially when you haven't really accomplished anything - which no one in the WIAC has, as pointed out so clearly by Mr. Coleman.

No one in the WIAC has really accomplished anything? History dates back further than 1999...

How about the three National Championships that UWL won?

It doesn't matter what the playoff format was, or what division it was, or when it was... A championship is a championship, and UWL won them while competing for that title, playing in against the same WIAC/WSUC conference schools during those seasons...

(In 1995, 1992 and an NAIA one in 1985, in addition to being the runner up in 1988 and 1989...)

Indeed, and Eau Claire to the national semifinals in 1998, the last year of the 16-team playoffs.

However, the NWC and the ASC belong to the modern (D3football.com/Pools) era of the sport.

As a proverbial newbie in D3, the D3 world changed in football in 1999.

I don't disparage the accomplishments of UWW or the WIAC, but the Pools have changed things dramatically.

No question that UWW has had an impressive run.  As we (La Crosse) did some years ago.

But laurels don't win football games.  A strong team needs to prove it every year, on the playing fields of the conference.  As well as on nonconference opponents' fields.

Whitewater is the defending champion, and a two-time runner up.  They look strong, but they'll have to win their way into the playoffs just like everyone else.

Chmarx...

You hit it right on the head.  For those who follow the WIAC on a yearly basis, you may be the favorite, but in this conference ANY TEAM in the conference is very capable to knock you off.  With apologies to all the team in the WIAC, conference championships were dominated by UWW and UWL for much of the 80s and the 90s.  In the late 90s that all changed (note) Eau Claire advancing to the D3 semifinals.  Since that time, the rest of the conference has definitely narrowed the gap between the top-two and the bottom seven (used to be eight). It will be very interesting to see how the WIAC wars go this fall.  There will be three or four teams that will be extremely capable in 2007.

bulk19, I made those comments in the context of the years 1999-Nov 2005.  I may have misled you to think the WIAC/WSUC hasn't really accomplished anything nationally in football.  I was only thinking about the years Mr. Coleman stated the WIAC might be remembered as playoff chokers.  But, the argument is accurate and I stand by what I said (WIAC DIII Football Playoff History  http://www.uwsa.edu/wiac/football/ncaahist.htm and UWL Playoff History (bottom of page) http://perth.uwlax.edu/Athletics/mfootball/footballrecords.pdf.

Now, if you want to change the perspective of the search and go back 20+ years, then I have to agree with you that UWL has had more national accomplishments than all the other WIAC/WSUC schools combined.  I remember that first NAIA Championship in '85 because as a UWL Graduate Student, I was at the Tacoma Dome when they defeated PLU. They have continued to make us alumni proud ever since.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

For all you history buffs out there, stop wasting your breath.
All that matter is this upcoming year,  and the fact is that UWW is going to win the conference for many reasons but here are the ones in my opinion that stand out 1) Justin Beaver  2) Best LB core maybe in the country 3) 4 of 5 OL returning 4) entire DB core returning 5) Danny Jones
3 peat in the making.  Gotta love it
