Me too, i still wonder how we survived that game. We couldn't do anything to stop them when they had the ball.

Fortunately for you guys, Linfield's D couldn't do any better trying to stop you when you had the ball.

I remeber both teams having big stops within the final few minutes...Linfield stopping UW on 4th and goal from the 9 yard line but UW turning the favor sending the 'Cats off the field with a 3 and out.  That all lead to the great TE screen call, Beaver scoring, and not enough time left for the 'Cat offense to pull out the game.

....but on the whole both offenses lit up the stat sheet like a pin ball game.  Just a great...incredible game.

11, all very true, but it is still a 60 minute game and with a score of 44-41, the defenses just weren't up to the task for enough of the game.  WW turned out to be a play or 2 better than Linfield's on that day.

DT48,
You are absolutely right.  That was the most amazing game I have ever had the priviledge of witnessing.  An unbelievable eleven lead changes, a D-1 caliber QB who put on a clinic and a RB who ran for more yards that season than any RB in NCAA history at any level.  A heart attack a minute.  Had a great time and the Cats and their fans were very welcoming and hospitable.  It was a shame that someone had to lose that day!

  D.O.C.,
I believe I remember seeing a WC11 video after the game but it was a little one-sided, if i remember right!  But I could be wrong as I just checked his site and it is not there.  I am old, afterall, and don't remember clearly what I had for lunch yesterday!!   ;) ;D

BoBo,   As someone who witnessed this game first hand, I disagree.  I understand how just looking at the score, one could draw that conclusion but, IMHO, this was not a case of weak defenses allowing a shoot-out.  Both had very good D's but much more a case of two extremely talented, explosive offenses who just could not be stopped.  I am telling you.......you really had to see it to believe it!!

Very strange that Linfields longest play was only 30 yards.

I think the D would have been happy if Elliott had taken the time to throw deep once and awhile.  They might have been able to get to him a time or two!  Instead, his short pass release was so quick and accurate that it was in the recievers hands before they had time to react!

It's there.  The Video is listed under Catdomealumni.com's Top Ten of the Past Ten (1996-2005):

Here is the direct link:  #7 The Game

Yes, the clip is a pure Linfield highlight of the day.  I just didn't have it in me to cut a "balanced" clip for that game.  However, next spring that is on my list to rework in a clip that tries to tell the story of the game along the line of the 2006 Stagg Bowl video and other clips I've posted.

I've said it before and will say it again that it was the best game I ever attended. A video that would be a true sense of the game would be awesome. We have a copy of the game film but it is just generic game films. Seen the Linfield tape but it is just all Linfield highlights....can't wait to see the game compilation....

I thought Linfield had it won at that point.  Since neither team could get a stop all day, I thought it was just going to take one to get it done.  Although I was still a little concerned about Linfield's ability to run clock.  The other big turning point I thought was the Linfield interception right before the half.  The game could have gotten away from Linfield a bit at that point with a WW TD.  I realize the clock was a factor but I can't believe they didn't just pound it in there with Beaver from 6" out.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the TE screen...great call...deep in the playbook.

Best call in D-3 that season as far as I am concerned.  But it wasn't that deep in the playbook.   Coach Z had probably been setting that one up all game!  LOL!  ;)

Not deep in the book. 1for27 pulled one down on the same play a couple years before. Everyone said it was a sure thing play.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

yeah, but I wonder how many 10+ yard plays they had. They weren't beating us on explosive plays but they destroyed us on third down conversions.......if it ever came down to that.

and yes I was there and yes, it was an AWESOME WIN, the only win in my entire career that I think was more exhilirating was the first time we beat LAX with the goal line stand on 4th and inches. After being handled by them for so long it felt great. Lin/WW was a very close second though.
