WWarhawk96,
What about the hailMary game against LaCrosse where after the Hawks pulled it out in Overtime, the Lacrosse coaches and players were crying like lil babies who lost their binkies.
Yeah the referees screwed up, but they are human and thats part of the game as I recall the Eagles were up 20-6 at one point in the second half, and the Warhawks and captainkurt and the special teams lead the comeback. To set up SURE THING.
That to me was one of the most exciting games ever because how many times will you see a hail mary pass actually work??? I have seen two Michigan vs Colorado, and UWW-UW-L.
The stagg bowl's were exciting however not for the warhawls just for those darn purple cladded wearing people from Ohio

Is that this game?

http://www.d3football.com/notables/2002/11/01/WIAC+says+game+likely+would+have+come+out+differently

That was the game back in 2002.  Of course our courteous, respectful, and gentle rivals from LaCrosse displayed great sportsmanship by firing their helmets to and fro across Perkins stadium shortly after the loss. It dawned upon me today that it was lucky small children weren't allowed onto the field back in 2002 because they probably would have been taken out by flying LaCrosse helmets......Quite professional indeed.  Great rivalry, Great game no less.

Since there aren't many La Crosse fans here to take their side I will just note one thing:

It's the only time in the history of D3football.com that a conference has publicly said anything of this type about officiating. Don't know how I would've reacted in UW-L's place. It's probably pretty easy to be all judgmental when you're the one who benefits from a blown call of that magnitude.

I remember sitting at the Perk watching that game trying to figure out what happened......and not knowing until we heard the explanation on the radio on the ride home. It was a great game and I was glad UWW was the winner but most everyone there that was capable of rational thinking knew LAX got screwed.........

The hail mary wasn't the end of the game, there was still overtime thanks to a missed pat, so you could hardly say lax got screwed. It didn't matter either way they still went to the playoffs and lost to mighty coe.

Yes, great point, LAX had their opportunity to get it done in overtime and didn't.  Mighty Coe?? I think I just wet myself laughing.  ;D

The hail mary game ranks lower in my book because the outcome was debatable at best and quite honestly, they did get screwed. That's how the ball rolls sometimes though. I can honestly say that if I were them I'd be pretty PO'd too. In th 2005 game there were so many going momentum swings that it made it incredibly memorable. Sterny's pick to seal the game in overtime was pretty sweet too.

Then why did the WIAC go to the unusual lengths it did to say otherwise?

That Coe game probably would've been at home if UW-L had won.

The UWW-LAX game ending in question still amazes me.  I know very well what the OFFICIAL WIAC press release says about the controversial ending of the game.  However, I personally know the radio play-by-play announcer from that game.  The audio tape has him counting down the time as the scoreboard counts down.  He and his game analyst are determining how far down LAX will run the clock when all of a sudden, the referee stops the clock.  The game did end with Whitewater going 60+ yards in two plays.  How still don't understand how teams in prevent defense allow a receiver to get all the way behind the defenders to make a catch in the end zone.  It was a very weird ending!!!  By the way, the radio audio tape was given to the WIAC, the radio station was never informed me of their conclusion after listening to the audio.  Maybe it was simply a very poor play by play account?!

Just a little change in topic  - with the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game kicking off in Oshkosh on Saturday at Titan Stadium, I was thinking, wouldn't it be fun if WI and MN could get together and begin a HS all-star game featuring the best of the graduated seniors from the two states.  Afterall, if the Badgers and Gophers can get together with the Border Battle series with their athletic departments, so could the high schools.  I think it would create great interest in both states and play off the intense rivalry that exists between the two states.  Could even extend to basketball.  What do you think?

I think Minnesota would get dominated AGAIN. I mean, the only consistent winning football program in the state is St. Johns. Usually if they don't win that's the end of the sport. It might be more of a struggle if they got the vikings to join them but it still might not be enough :D

Lots of interesting, whiny posts from Whitewater fans after their team got the benefit of a horrible job of officiating.

I don't care if the officials screwed up or not. The Eagles were up 20-6,and some poor play allowed the Hawks to get back into that game. Mainly on special teams as I recall.
Also if a team is in prevent defense, and there are three defenders around one WR. How does the WR cme down with the ball ????
As my high school baseball coach once told us Umpires, and officials don't lose games. Players do. Do they make mistakes yes, but it is the job of the players to overcome those mistakes and keep their poise when mistakes are made. The officials are human.
When the game was over their was a lot of throwing of helmets by a certain team in White, along wth fights almost starting. Heck coach Brez was surprised a fight didn't start.
All I remember is that after it was won Captain Flanagan said while being pulled of the field,by assistant coaches. Next time knock the ball down and you might win. ;) ;) ;)
Like I said I don't care if the officials screwed up. THE HAWKS WON. Just like three weeks later Oshkosh won,and even though they had to forfeit the entire season. They still won the game where it counts ON THE FIELD, and this is comign from a diehard Whitewater fan. However I also believe that the games are won on the field by the player or lost on the field by the players. No one else.Coaches,Officials scoreboard game clock operators, or anyone else.
Also Voice you were the ebst radio guy the Hawks ever had.
