redskins.com reports that Pete Schmitt has returned to practice after missing time due to a shoulder injury.  The blog entry at 5:15 pm on Aug 6 continues to say he has a decent chance to stick with the team being that the 'skins only have one other healthy fullback on the roster (last years starter Mike Sellers).

A report I heard yesterday stated that Steffen had cut a deal with the prosecution and will provide information to them regarding the source of the steroids.

Here's the link to today's Eau Claire Leader-Telegram story, which provides more coverage than TV13 could allot to the Steffen/Stout situation:

The following was a statment made the Dunn County DA:

Peterson says sentencing on the other charge will be deferred for one year and the charge dismissed if Steffen commits no more crimes and testifies truthfully in other cases.

Peterson says Steffen is expected to be a witness in cases against three other people charged in the undercover drug probe. That group includes two other ex-football players.

WBAY-TV also reported the following:

MENOMONIE (AP) - A prosecutor says a former University of Wisconsin-Stout football player pleaded guilty today to two charges in a deal that calls for him to testify about how he obtained steroids.

From WIAC Media Day at the Kohl Center in Madison

Sports Information Director's 2007 Preseason WIAC Poll:

1.   Whitewater (7 first place votes)
2.   La Crosse  ( 1 first place vote)
3    Oshkosh
4.   Stevens Point
5    Platteville
6    River Falls
7.   Eau Claire
8.   Stout

Most coaches other than Larry Terry and Lance Leipold indicated that the winner of the UWW @ UWLC
game will have the inside track on the 2007 conference title.  Not exactly a AP/UPI bulletin for the news wire.

Sad news out of Menomonie about the Stout football program.  I hope the guilty are punished and no one questions the integrity of the rest.

How can you not?
Warhawkclownshow

So are you saying every team such as the Bears, Packers, Vikings, Badgers, Warhawks etc.,etc, that had players get in trouble with drugs and/or steroids have no integrity? That the actions of a few dictate the worth of the rest of the team?

warhawkclownshow

Not at all, but it would be stupid not to at least question others involved in the program.  If you believe that only those involved in legal trouble participated in the use and distribution of these drugs (steroids included) you're just being naïve (Where there's smoke there's fire).  However, I do believe that Stout has been very proactive in their mission to clean up the programs image.

Listen.  You should be careful with your comments about programs.  I am not a Stout supporter.  However, I applaud them for being the only team to step up and try to clean up their program.  Performance enhancing substances are prevelent at all levels of football.  If you think your favorite team is squeaky clean you will be very surprised when the domino's start to fall.

I played D1 football in the mid 80's and this stuff was widespread then.  Not only at that level but down to the NAIA.  I personally witnessed an OL from LAX (who had a successful NFL career) break a needle off in his arse due to the thick callous' that he had developed from the injections he was taking.

I know many players and coaches at the D3 level and they all know what goes on with many of these boys.  The satisfaction that they get is that there are many that don't juice.  These are the kids that should be applauded.

To single out one program and suggest that they should be looked at with greater suspicion is not just wrong, it is irresponsible.  Remember the old saying, Those who live in glass houses...  ...you might be shocked to learn what some of your boys are up to.

The whole league should be held accountable for their athletes off season training regimen.  D3 should not be a safe haven for those athletes that attempt to gain a little extra edge.  Any performance enhacing substances should be flushed out of the WIAC.  Unfortunately, this is not happening at this time.

Hi I disagree.

Stout should not be applauded for trying to clean up the program....they should be burried for being dirty.  They should be under heavy scrutiny until we are years past any notion of any guilt.  DIII football is the most entertaining sports event I have ever attended.  The game in its most pure form.  I know why the players are out there and this kind of activity can not be accepted.  Applaud nothing.  Stout needs to be blamed and condemned.  Clean it up and maybe get another chance some day.  We are not talking about the Bears Packers and Vikings.  That is a different sport.

Thank You

Different Sport?  The last time I looked the Bears, Packers and Vikings, Warhawks all play football.   I suppose from your comments you think no other program has any issues with drugs and steroids.  The plan simple fact is that if every program D1 and all the way down to D3 programs have there issues.  The difference with Stout is that they got caught and the school is stepping up and doing something about it.
