badgerwarhawk,

Some are going to simply look at the score (41-7) after only this first game and conclude this WW team is not as good as the previous 2 years, considering how they dismantled Lakeland in other season openers in '05 & '06.  How do you feel they looked today (execution, personnel, etc) compared to after the same game the previous two years?  Any others at the game, I would be interested in hearing your comments, too.
Would you say WW was playing conservatively, on both offense & defense - that is to say, not trying to show a whole lot of wrinkles in the new schemes.  The less to show SCSU, the better?  How did Jones look? Any other personal observations?

BTW, SCSU opened their season with a 17-7 win vs Northern State on Thursday night.  They play Mary in Bismarck ND next week, before hosting the Warhawks.

Game of the week so far - but it isn't a D3 game...

Appalacian State 34, #5 Michigan 32... The Mountaineers get a FG with 26 seconds left to take the lead, but the Wolverines get a chance at a winner at the end, only to have the kick blocked... Wow...

As a D3 fan, I would have maybe paid my $6 to see that one! But that $6 would probably only get me a seat in the parking lot.  ;) Wouldn't mind being in Texas for the big WIAC game tonight between UWL and Hardin-Simmons..., though. Heck, I'd even splurge and pay a scalper $10 for a ticket to that one...  ;)

So far, the WIAC teams are undefeated this weekend, right?

I guess Mich will go back to playing the Toledo's and Bal State's to open up in the future. ;D

CORRECTION:

Looking at next years schedule, Utah's going to be the sacrificial lamb!

La Crosse goes 85 yards on the opening drive of the game to score on a 4 yard TD pass and run by Dan Hall.  The HSU announcing duo were impressed by the outstanding execution of the Eagle offense on this first drive of the season.

HSU returns the ensuing kick off  6 yards to the Eagles 29.

La Crosse takes a 27-7 lead with 1:06 before halftime at HSU.

In that last minute of the 2nd quarter, La Crosse gives up a TD to lead 27-14.

357 total yards for La Crosse; 95 for HSU (75 on the last drive before the half)

Many 3 and outs for HSU. This one could be a lot worse, HSU should be fortunate to be down only 13.

HSU has been rotating 3 QB's - don't think I have ever seen that in one half.

La Crosse QB Griffin Moe has not had any pressure on him.  A good situation for a first time starter.

Whitewater seemed to be "feeling around" for a while in the first half.  Not much rythym, but showed better signs of life in the second  quarter and into the second half.  Didn't get Beaver going until then - how about that correlation.  Danny Jones looked pretty good - a couple of passes were off the mark a bit (more intermediate throws, fewer home run tries), but he made a bunch of plays with his legs.  Even a QB draw and a designed run around the end.  New wrinkle.

Lakeland played a very clean game.  One interception killed their only decent drive early, but no turnovers after that.  And no penalties.  Between that and the methodical nature of UWW, that's why the scores didn't pile up as fast as last year.

That Lakeland field is a joke.  Better seating at almost any high school around here.  Had to go sit on the grass behind the end zone, because the players blocked too much of the field for people sitting in their 4 rows of bleachers.  Of course, that meant we could hear the coaches, which is always fun to listen to.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

One the first possession of the second half, HSU scores on a TD passes to close the gap to 27-21.

They then force a 3 and out. They take over on offense with a chance to take the lead.

After a long delay trying to get the web-radio broadcasts back on-line, La Crosse has withheld the HSU comeback and is well on it's way to a "W".  It's now 47-21 with just over 3 minutes remaining.  I think we can chalk up a win for La Crosse and make it a clean sweep for the WIAC in non-conference action for this first week of the 2007 season (still haven't heard a score from the UWSP game, however).  When was the last time HSU lost so convincingly at home?  Great win for La Crosse.

Job well done by all the teams.

Signing off...

UWSP and Webber International are tied 7-7 late in the game.  WIU is deep in their own territory with under 2 minutes to play.  Looks like OT coming up...

UPDATE:  WIU hits a 80 yard punt to put the Pointers at their own 2. BUT, penalty calls the play back.  On the replay, UWSP blocks the kick and falls on it for a TD.  PAT no good.  UWSP 13, WIU 7.  :38 to go.

UPDATE:  Point intercepts a hail mary at the 25 yard line and the game is over.  UWSP 13, WIU 7.

Congrats to all of the Wiac winners. It looks like Whitewater will have a new rushing leader after the saint cloud game in two weeks.
It also looks like the CHAMPS DA PURPLE RAIDERS are ready to bring home the stagg bowl trophy as they set a NCAA D3 record scoring 52 points in one quarter.
However we will have to wait till December to see if they will be crown champs again. I would put my money on it if I was a betting man.
Gotta beat the best to be the best otherwise your just one of the rest

Let's hope it happens as somethign like this will bring all the hawks back to UW-W

La Crosse had 338 yards rushing and 340 yards passing.  That is about as balanced as it gets.

Congrats to the WIAC teams.  They really flexed their muscles this weekend.  I read on the lions page that Beckham was not one of the final cuts which makes me think he did it again and made the team.  Congrats to TOny on his journey back after being out of the league most of last sesason.
