Stanley will end up on someone's practice squad, I'm sure. He's not done.

Sorry to hear that Stanley got cut.

Is that official?

The Vikings should pick him up.

...which has happened Pat. He's back with the Rams. Page down to the end of the article for the details.

What to make of the Falcon 54-24 win? People hereabouts are shocked by the margin. Hope was the unanimous pick of league coaches to win their conference title after winning it last year. They were ranked 19th in the D3 poll. Are they that good? Are the Falcons better than anticipated?

Perhaps next week will tell. Mike Zweifel, freshman wideout from Whitewater, set a new school record with ten catches. Now I realize we're talking no-pass Falcon football for the last thirty plus years. Nevertheless....

Last year's backup qb, Storm  Harmon, threw 4 td passes, tying a school record, and his total yards passing, 306, fell short by less than ten of tying the all time Falcon record set by now St. Paul developer Jerry Trooien when he was a Falcon.

Nathan Anderson ran for 95 yards on 17 carries.

Next Saturday, the Johnnies, 55-14 winners over Marietta College, Ohio, will be in town. We hope the series will be a long one and the City of RF will be hospitable. How many fans will you bring, Johnnies? I'm hoping to get your fans a deal or two down town. We're having a meeting next Wednesday to possibly arrange that. Tell all who are interested that we have "Art on the Kinni," a succession of art booths along a walking path near the Kinnickinnic River going on Saturday near down town. I also heard that there was a plan to invite the team/coaches/fans to a Saturday night chicken fry at the Legion Club, but don't know whether that plan got legs. More on that later.

Corrected.

fredfalcon,

Congrats to the Falcons on the big win yesterday.

Should be a much more interesting SJU/UWRF game this year.

Lots of red in River Falls next Saturday.  I hope the weather is half as
nice as it was yesterday in Collegeville.

Hope was not ranked 19th in our poll. They got six votes, the 46th-most in the poll.

Any other preseason poll, as usual, is not worth the magazine it's printed in.

The Redskins have also announced their practice roster, but Pete Schmitt was not among the re-signed. Anyone know his injury situation (shoulder I believe)?  They did re-sign Brian Bell, who was listed as third team (Schmitt listed as 2nd team) throughout training camp. Let's hope Pete can get healthy again (if that's holding him back).  Or maybe he was signed by another team.  I have to check.  The Redsins did sign Byron Westbrook, CB, out of DIII Salisbury.

Does anyone know if he took an injury settlement? That would impact his ability to sign elsewhere.

You know what, Pat, in the stories I read on redskins.com, there was no mention that he was given an injury settlement.  What exactly is (are) the rule(s) on that?  Nothing on warhawkfootball.com either.

I am not an expert on the intricacies of this stuff, but what I have heard int he past is that if you take an injury settlement, the team gives you money but you can't sign with someone else until the next season.

Westbrook got cut today after the Skins picked up 2 players from waivers and Westbrook missed a tackle which allowed the winning touchdown the other night's game.  According to one of the DC tv stations I was listening to tonight.  They didn't mention my favorite, Pete.  Skins are just knuckleheads.  It'll be the same curmmy results.  They keep Brunell, what does that say about their understanding of talent?  Congrats to WW on a great win.  Hope the boys are back for their brownies in Dec.!!!

Just Bill--Of course! Why couldn't I have come up with "drumsticks"?

Pat--My mistake (not  "my bad," cool as that is for those under a certain age). The  poll was one mentioned on Hope's website. I jumped to the conclusion, one of the best ways to get exercise.

retiredoldrat--thanks. I hope/think it will be a better game than last year. Unfortunately, our parking lot at Ramer Field is under construction and is in tough shape. A Kwik Trip is going in on the south end of it, reducing the parking spaces. However, the spaces have been made up on the north end in an unpaved area. Rain would not help either the game or the parking situation.
