I am not an expert on the intricacies of this stuff, but what I have heard int he past is that if you take an injury settlement, the team gives you money but you can't sign with someone else until the next season.

In a later transaction on Sun, redskins.com report (last paragraph) that Pete Schmitt was waived from IR with an injury settlement.  Maybe someone in post patterns-land with knowledge of the NFL rules can tell us what this means...I sure don't know.

fredfalcon - gave you a bump upward since it appears you too are  trying to help our culture by not using phrases that are like fingernails on a chalkboard. You'll need it in the coming week since my fellow johnnies might dekarmalize you relentlessly. Maybe not though since you seem like a nice sane fellow.

JOHNNIES RULE

Just happened to stumble across this tidbit. It's kind of neat to see if you are a Whitewater/Derek Stanley fan...

Go to the NFL.com site, and click on the link for the preseason schedule. They post the results, top passer, top rusher and top receiver for each team/game...

For week 1, Aug. 9, the Rams' 13-10 win over Minnesota (I just forgot which team?), Stanley's name is listed as the top receiver for the Rams, with 61 yards. I know his stats/progress were posted on here as the training camp progressed, but it's neat to go back and see his name listed amongst all kinds of NFL superstars...

fredfalcon

retagent--thanks for the good words, but I've never been at the giddy height of 22. I may not be able to handle it.

Will you be at the game? Do you have any estimate of the no. of Johnnie fans who will attend?

FredFalcon,

It was nice to meet you last year at SJU, and I look forward to this Saturday, as well.  I would expect a lot of Johnnie fans.  Much of our fan base is from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, so UWRF will be closer for a lot of people than driving to SJU.

I believe Johnnie Red has got some plans going.  It would be worth sending a message to him.

See you Saturday.

Just Bill--Of course! Why couldn't I have come up with "drumsticks"?

Pat--My mistake (not  "my bad," cool as that is for those under a certain age). The  poll was one mentioned on Hope's website. I jumped to the conclusion, one of the best ways to get exercise.

retiredoldrat--thanks. I hope/think it will be a better game than last year. Unfortunately, our parking lot at Ramer Field is under construction and is in tough shape. A Kwik Trip is going in on the south end of it, reducing the parking spaces. However, the spaces have been made up on the north end in an unpaved area. Rain would not help either the game or the parking situation.

Fred,

I suggest you tell the powers that be to set up some extra parking.  SJU travels well and as Duffman already said, this is a short trip for many of us.  In my case less than 30 minutes versus almost 2 hours to Collegeville.  We always overflowed the visitor seating at UWEC.

Hey retiredoldrat -

Yes, you guys were in full force when you came to UWEC... refresh my memory... How come the two teams aren't playing again this year? The contract was up, I believe, but... Did you sign a home-and-home with UWRF?

How does Carson Park as an atmosphere, and as a facility, compare to other sights you've been to? The field is really nice now, now that it's artificial turf...

bulk -  I was at the UWEC/SJU game I believe two years ago. The stadium was quite nice, but the rain made it a little miserable and the delayed start wasn't  the best turn of events, not that anything could be done about the lightning. It was also the game J. Steffensmeier was injured, so that was another negative, - again no reflection on the venue. Since I live in SE WI, it wouldn't be too long a trek, but our Club Championship takes place over the weekend, so my efforts will be in not embarassing myself, and staying awake, and not hung-over through the 36 holes.

retagent -

I remember that game well - 2005: Johnnies 35 - UWEC 28... Blugolds had three blocked punts - two for TDs and one led to a short TD drive... We were stopped on downs, driving, around your 20 with but a few ticks left of the clock...

Lightning smightling... lol... I say let 'em play! But nowadays I guess it's wise to get them out from those conditions... But then again, I'm the one who once had his YMCA flag football team practicing during a tornado warning, so what do I know? Ha...

Bulk,

I don' t know why the contract was not renewed.  My guess is that we wanted to add a little variety to our non-conference schedule.  I'm sure the fact that you guys generally gave us a tough game played into it as well.  Yes, we did a home and home with RF.  Not sure if it was just a 2 year deal or not.  Personally, I like the RF deal.  Living in Woodbury makes it the 2nd shortest drive for an SJU game.

I like Carson Park.  Beautiful setting.  The facilities for tailgating are top notch.  Plenty of visitor seating.  My only minor complaint would be the poles for the lights being between the stands and the field on the visitor side.

ROR,
It looks like even Eau Claire is  an easier drive for you than Collegeville.

Has anyone else noticed the change in tone of the postings between the WIAC vs MIAC (St John's primarily) this year. Over the past two years the respect engendered by primarily UW-L amd UWW has been huge. Let's not let this go to your heads. Good luck to UWW in their foray to Johnnie country in the game against SCS.

I had already smiled to myself regarding this exact thing.  I remembered how brutal most of the Johnny posters were to us the week before the first face-off in 05!  Quite a stark contrast.   ;)  Can't blame them considering they have enjoyed many years as an elite level program but most of them showed a lot of class and respect when UWW earned it.  Speaking of the SCS game,  I'd love to hear some of the SJU's faithful's take on the game and anything they know about this years team and what they think the Hawks chances are.
