Have to agree with Ozzie......the turnovers were bad but St. Cloud had something to do with them and they turned them into points. As much as I wanted the Warhawks to prevail we have to give St. Cloud their props in that area. As for the Warhawk linebacking crew......they could be the best in Division 3.....Borzich and Raebel could be Division 1 players....

ummalum

Voice that makes alot of sense, they outgained a horrible offense so i guess that is the new benchmark. WOW how the spindoctors work

But I'm sure any drunk in the stands could do that in WW's offense.

I don't know about that.  I tried it once and was tackled for a four yard loss.  The hole was big enough to drive a truck through but by the time I had staggered toward it,  it was closed.  I don't think the drunken part was the problem and next time I plan on lining up closer to the line.

ozzie679- Backers are very good at ww, seemed like SCSU was avoiding AJ (good move) anyone else notice?
Yup, I noticed that, too.

Hey you forgot #85 now known as "Ol Slippery Fingers" One for sure dropped TD and another tough one but should have been caught.

Voice,
It was great to meet you Saturday night. Hope to see you again in the future.

I am not sure what game Ozzie 679 saw but WW had Gremlins in their huddle all night. I have to say it was WW turnovers that "gave" SCSU points  and without that and receiver #8 who will forever be known as "STONEY", the game would have been much closer and a possible WW win.  You can never factor the If's and But's.....but let's face it SCSU was not exactly slamming the door on WW. Calling off the dogs? Didn't really see that.

WW had their own problems like 1st and goal at the 1 only to have a FG blocked at the 5......Good defense for SCSU give them credit. WW did you ever think of using Beaver as a decoy. That would be the only play call issue I had.
Having a punt bounce into the WW player at the SCSU 45 etc, etc. I would not be too happy at your teams showing against a DIII team. You got by.
I would say Jones was a bit of a disappointment too. He was pressured a lot but he threw passes long just for the sake of throwing long. Who was going to catch them? JMHO.

Enough with the finger-pointing, please.  It is counter productive!

Thought the play calling was decent. Three issues, not negatives just observations. 1) SCSU has a soft zone defense so a few tight end down the seam passes may have helped get them on thier heals a bit. 2) Thought UWW went to the pass to early which helped the linebackes get in gaps considering Jones had no blind side protection after #75 went down. 3) Only questionable play calling was when UWW was on the 1. What about a play action, end around or some misdirection. It's good to thump your chest and say we are tougher than you but after the first two downs went a total of 1" they may have tried some misdirection.

Does anyone think UWW would have won the game if playcalling was better.

What was wrong with the play calling.  I thought it was very good.  They outgained the Huskies didn't they? ???

Sorry ummalum, I totally agree with voice on this one.  I think most everyone knows what the problems were that contributed to the defeat - they start with pass protection breakdowns, catching and holding onto the ball, and mental mistakes/turnovers.  I don't think those issues are primarily associated to the playcalling.  Specifically, what are your issues with the playcalling that you feel could have been done better and possibly changed defeat into victory for WW?

That's the beauty of being arm chair QB's. 8) My guess is that EC is going to be in for a good dose of Warhawk wuppin. Go Hawks !!

Hey, I enjoy Monday morning analysis as much as the next guy and thought your observations below were good:

Just making the point that Gifford and Wells don't need any piling on at this point, IMHO.  We're cool.  8)

Mr. Downtown

Going into Media Day, everyone knew that Whitewater could still do two things very well, play defense and run the football.

Against St. Cloud, they did that, giving up only 277 yards of total offense and had 193 yards on the ground.

But...4 turnovers, down by 23 in the 4th quarter, and the starting QB was 16/36 for only 154 yards passing. Oh, and they had two weeks to prepare for this game...

That doesn't look like the same team that went to the National Championship game last year. a Home cookin' game against Eau Claire could do the trick before they go on the road to La Crosse the next week.

By the way, congrats to Andy Moriarty for breaking Ron Cardo's all time Rushing Touchdown record at Oshkosh. The Titans look good, really good. Too bad that they might have the toughest road in conference (@ WW and then @ LAX, OUCH!). We'll see how it goes in a couple of weeks, but Oshkosh seems to have things in order under Coach Cerroni.

This year's WARHAWK football team doesn't look like the same team  last year's team did because it isn't.

I've followed WW football for 4 decades and last year's team, in my mind, was the best team we have ever put on the field.  We have an excellent team this year and I expect them to challenge for a conference championship and the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.   But expecting them to look like the best team we've had in four decades, and perhaps in our entire history as a program, may be expecting a bit much.

Great comment BadgerWarhawk.  I think a few of us have gotten a little spoiled and greedy the last two years.  Let me remind a few people that that offense that the Hawks put on the field last year had two players that were the real deal as NFL prospects.  O and by the way one of which is Derek Stanley who is still on an NFL squad.  That's talent and production that has to be replaced, but will never ever be duplicated to last year's level.  I'm pretty sure the hawks wideouts are good, but when you can stretch the field at any given moment with a player such as Stanley, it opens a lot of other opportunities for the offense.

Any Stout fans coming out to the Pacific Northwest this weekend?  We always look forward to having visitors from other places visit the Pine Bowl.  The showing of St. John's fans for last season's playoff was very impressive.

Here are a couple of suggestions for filling out your weekend:

If you fly into Spokane, take some time to get over to Couer d'Alene, Idaho, or better yet, Sandpoint, Idaho.  The lake scenery surrounded by the Selkirk mountains is quite impressive and the towns have a lot of character.

If you fly into Seattle and drive across the state, take a detour through Mt. Rainier National Park.  You'll be catching it at the right time for some great fall colors.

If anyone wants any further information, please message me and I'll be happy to provide it.

I thought the Hawks looked good just a few minor issues to address and a few changes to be made and they are very strong team. These kids are going to put together a outstanding season with a lot of big offensive games. I think the critics are being a little to critical out the gate. WW is not used to losing they took it hard and fingers start pointing. I would look for this home opener to set the tone for the season :D ;D :D ;D
