Meanwhile, Swifel will start/continue using his contacts to pick guys out of your backyard.

Are there a lot of kids choosing between UW-Whitewater and Beloit Memorial High School? Seems odd.

Have you seen UWW's admission standards?  It's pretty close!   ;) ;)

Got me on that one and I went to a Liberal Arts College....

Mr. Downtown

I just wanted to take this chance to note something of interest in the realm of the WIAC.

Tonight, the UW-Oshkosh Women's Volleyball team attempts to break the consective games winning streak against Beloit College, at 7pm.

They have won 48 straight games (which, for clarification, you have to win 3 games in order to win the match. So they have won 16 matches in a row, and during that winning streak, they've lost one game, which was the first game of their second match of the season).  Which is currently tied with UW-Whitewater for the longest in the conference, and second longest in the history of D-III.

Just two wins, and Oshkosh will have the longest streak. Beloit this  year is 8-6. If interested, you can watch the match here: http://secure.stretchinternet.com/demo/games.php?user=uwosh&o=cal_stamp

I know La Crosse and Whitewater are the two big dogs for Football in the WIAC. But as far as competition, talent base, and national ranking, the rivalry of Whitewater and Oshkosh for Women's Volleyball trumps La Crosse vs Whitewater Football. Both are great match-ups, I just think that this orange (volleyball) looks better than this apple (football).

Any thoughts? (And this should be interesting. I'm wondering how many WIAC "Fans" actually know anything outside of Football and Basketball.)

LOL man.....Old Indian--------Ya thats the first thing i hear from kids now a days ...I am going to what ever school has good bars...alot of drunk uneducated girls running around and a run down stadium...That will be "re built in 2years" HA...! Glad you have alot of pride in your team but for best interest of your team dont put thier reputation on bars and girls....SAD.... Anyways good luck to you guys next week. Mark my words this game is going to be a blow out. i know it sounds a little one sided but this Offense is finally coming together and looking good. The D well not much you can say they do an outstanding job.! WW Offense is going to be to much to handle. The run game will be in full swing like always but look for the pass cause Jones is going to light it up with his WR core and him getting their timing down..

Oh yea and how about old Bret....One more TD..!

Saw WW play St Cloud State.  Very impressed with the Hawks D..even without Kleppe.  Rock solid up the middle.  State's success came against the small corners using their 6'5" wideout.  Quick stops, turn-ins, slants then a nice fade over the top.  State missed a couple of open posts too.  Does LX have any tall fast receivers?

You might be surprised at the large number of contributors to this thread who have well-rounded sports interests. I, for one, enjoy anything that brings honor to the league.  Do we have more knowledge about football?  Of Course.  Probably since this is a football message board, my un-educated & un-scientific guess is that more WIAC "fans" here know and care more about football than volleyball.  One reason, Mr. Downtown, might be that many posters here have played some form of competitive football after high school and/or have competitive football in their blood, but the closest we came to participating in a competitive game of volleyball was in high school PE class!!   ;)  ...at a family reunion, or the company picnic (probably slightly inebriated, too).

Actually, with a football poll showing WW #3 and LC #6 and a volleyball poll with WW #3 and Oshkosh #8, I think football trumps volleyball in terms of national rannkings.  Personally, I like the apple  ??? looking ball better.

I do know that WW plays a very demanding schedule every year with many ranked foes.  You did fail to mention that the only currently ranked opponent Oshkosh has played, Carthage, they were beaten in 3-1, in  the season opener.  Oshkosh will have a very difficult match coming up on 9/26 in La Crosse, ranked #19 and losers to WW the other day 3-1. Good luck setting the record tonight.

I love the unconditional faith that some of us Warhawks have but being a realist, this game will probably not be a blowout. This is the same LAX team that almost beat us in 2006 in the playoffs. Warhawks win with a goaline stand on 4th and short;)

btw I see Mike Ferron is having a heck of a year so far. You guys really lucked out with that transfer. What do you Pointers think about him?

KennethK,

Ted Everson is 6'3" 185 lbs leads the Eagles with 10 catches (18.3 avg) & 1 TD to lead the team.
Jason Wagner is 6' 3" 205 lbs has 8 catches (15.6 avg) 1 TD.
Wagner caught 4 for 70 in last years playoff game, but neither had much other success last year. As I remember, they just missed a few huge plays along the sidelines in the first game.  Everson did have 10 catches for 195 yards in the 2005 game, so he has potential to do some damage, as does Wagner, I believe.  The question is whether the La Crosse o-line can give Griffin Moe time to throw. I think the eagles will have to throw to be successful against the warhawks (a recurring theme so far this year).  The warhawk d-line & 'backers are the WW strength on D.  This  could shape up to be an epic battle on Sat.

My daughter played volleyball at UW-Oshkosh so I'm familiar with the program.  In fact there was a time when I attended every match they played.  The current coach was an assistant at the time.  They won't have any problem beating Beloit College.  Beloit College women's volleyball isn't at all competitive with even the weakest WIAC programs let alone a good one.   They should try scheduling Wash U, Laverne and Juanita on a weekend.

Mrs BW and I attend nearly all of the WARHAWK home matches with the exception of those played on the wrong Saturday afternoons.  We've also served as line judges for the high school team in the past.  It's a great sport and at one time dominated our family life year round.   We both really got hooked on it and it's a pleasure to have a program as good as WHITEWATER to follow.   I might even know as much about it as Downtown though that could be stretching it some.  I mean I'm not the Broadcaster of the Year. ;):D   I have stayed at Holiday Inn Express however.

I totally agree, 96.  I sure don't anticipate a blow out but I hope your prediction isn't true either.  Don't think my heart could take it.  But just a reminder that this is not the same LAX team that played us tough in the 06 play-offs.  I believe they lost a fair amount of talent to graduation as well, just like the Hawks.  We will see who was the most successful at reloading.  You know, given LAX's great bars and all. ;D

LaCrosse was extremely impressive vs. Azusa -- they looked complete all around. And lookwhat  Azusa did last weekend... losing to a 3-1 I-AA team on a last-minute kick.

I'm expecting a great game and have no other viewing planned.;)

Speaking of not being the same team from last year, AP came into that game against LaCrosse ranked 34th in NAIA. They are no longer ranked.  Last year when they played the Eagles and the Hawk, they were 8th or 9th, I believe.

Mr. Downtown, I don't know about volleyball, but the rivalry between Brandeis and MIT in men's fencing is insane.
