Are you serious with the bulletin board material.  What are the LAX players supposed to say, "We are going to lose."  Of course they are going to say things like they did to show that they are confident.  Anytime people think that things showed be bulletin board material arent playing for the right reasons.  If it takes comments from a player on a different team to get you fired up to kick the crap out of the other team then you seriously dont love to win.  I hate it when people try to make stuff be bulletin board material.

Yet how many times have you walked into a locker room and seen an article like this posted on it's bulletin board.   I know I have on more than one occassion.  They aren't the reason you get fired up in a rivalry as intense as ours but, on the other hand, they sure don't hurt the process.  If coaches thought they were useless or actually counterproductive (inspire players to play for the wrong reasons) then why do so many of them put them up?

You bring up good points.  Im just saying that I think its stupid that coaches resort to that or players use that like its an advantage.  I was just saying that players shouldnt have to rely on bulletin board material to get fired up.  Wanting to win and wanting to make the other team feel like they never want to play the sport again is what would drive me to winning.  And the fact that I would hate to lose.  bulletin board material would just make me laugh and realize that the other team wants to do what I want to do and that is win.

If you would have never seen the field that doesn't mean your stuck behind talent, it means your not good enough to play.  Good players find a way on the field regardless of who is in front of them, and Neitzel would have never played a significant down at WW.(And he knows it)

As for the game, it will be interesting to see how the two starting QB's perform in their first big WIAC contest.

Bulletin board material is dumb no one cares except coaches who are unsure of their team.  The thought that someone will try/work hard becasue of what someone said should be offensive to anyone who has ever played football.  All games are the same in the end.

Just returned from the Stout Touchdown Club luncheon where I always sit with Stoutguy.

Closed circuit to Stoutguy: Jake just called. You left your wifes cell phone at the Ale House.  :D
So Stoutguy finally shows up and I'm unable to attend...    I must be having a BAD day!

About bulletin board material, what other teams or people are saying have always been and always will be put on the bulletin board in the locker room to help motivate a team even more. Will it help everyone? No. Will it help some people? Maybe. Not everyone is the same and seeing that can motivate some people. If I'm a coach, and I can motivate one player on the team by showing them what someone said, why not do it?

As far as Nietzel is concerned, he is one of many backers who would have spent some time on the bench at UWW. It isn't because he's bad (he actually is a very good player) but when you have Raebel, Widuch, and Borzick sitting ahead of you, the bench might be somewhere in your future. I'm pretty sure we have some LB's on our bench right now that could start elsewhere in the conference and be the best linebacker on that team.

Goal Line Stand

Well, to be completely accurate, in 04 Nietzel had Raebel, Widuch and Price sitting in front of him but that is pretty much the same thing.   ;)  I agree, he would not have started at UWW with the LB crew that they have been blessed with the last several years but he is playing for LAX, not like he had to go to the bottom of the WIAC to find his spot.

For those of you WW supporters - and you know who you are  ;) - clamoring for a bit more "bulletin board" material, Check out the VOD from WKBT La Crosse Anticipation builds...

And oh, BTW, Dan Hall - "The best athlete in this conference", and "...the most explosive and exciting player" (just some of the outspoken material in the footage) will be the guy on Sat. with the big S on his jersey, replacing the number 28.  Watch to see what I mean.

WOW some very bold words by some of the Lax players.  Dan Hall better have a big game, which I feel should be hard seeing that UWW is known for stopping RB's from having big games.  They are just throwing fuel on the fire for the best LB core in the country.  Im excited to hear the game on the radio.

BDB--good call on the drivers in Menomonie vs. those in RF. It's been apparent for years. And thanks for the heads up on pickems. I'm going there now. Haven't been paying close attention.

The one rule that coaches teach you from probably 5th grade is to not say something that will bring attention or piss off the other team.  I wanted to express how I felt about other teams and players when I played but I didn't for that purpose.  I did it behind closed doors with my teammates who will say it was some pretty funny stuff with alot of swears, but then I proved it on the field to them.  I could careless what Neitzel has to say, I just thought it was funny coming from him.

Like I said, let's wait and see if that comment has any backing because for the past 3 years, Beaver has had some of his best days against UW-L.

To the group:
In response to the transfering Neitzel, I think it's smart to transfer to another school to play.  WHY WOULDN"T YOU.  There was some studs at UWW ahead of him.  Sitting on the bench for 3 years on a winning team or STARTING on a solid team year in and out isn't a bad choice.  What would you do?

I was reading all the game previews for the conference this week.  While reading the Pointers preview I came across 2 interesting things I didnt know.  Right now they are tied for the second longest winning streak behind Mount Union with 7 games and in those 7 games they have forced 31 turnovers.  31 turnovers in 7 games is amazing.

I know coaches have taught players from a young age that they should keep those comments to themselves.  But people also need to remember that football is an emotional game and of course players are going to say what they feel.  Players who give cliche answers are boring.  Im just saying I hate it when people take it personal and use it to try and fire players up.  I just think that players should want to win for the sake that losing sucks and its fun to win.  you know.  I just hate bulletin board material

I doubt wins over Waldorf, Iowa Wesleyan and Webber International are going to impress anyone, but the first four in the streak were WIAC games so that's good.

Although the Pointers' NC schedule was... um ...questionable (at best), it was probably what they really needed to start the season.  They have a solid defense, but are VERY young on offense.  I think they needed a couple of cupcakes just to build some confidence and not demoralize the youngsters right out of the gate.

I'm not making any grand predictions, but it wouldn't surprise me if UWSP ended up third behind UWL and UWW.  And, I think their defense can keep them in the game with the two big boys.  But, they'll have to try and keep scores low and count on the defense to get 2-3 takeaways and maybe even score a TD for them.
