I have a question about the rankings.  I dont care that Oshkosh is ahead of Eau Claire but just curious.  Oshkosh has more points than Eau Claire in the rankings even though Eau Claire is 4-1 with their loss being whitewater and Oshkosh is 3-1 with their loss being Eau Claire.  So shouldnt Eau Claire get more votes than Oshkosh?  I understand that Oshskosh might still be a head of them because they were a head of them the whole season but I just thought if a team has a better record than one team and they beat that team, shouldnt they be ahead of that team.  Im not making a big deal out of this but just curious.  And why isnt Point ranked they are the only undefeated team in the WIAC at 4-0?  Oh wait, they havent beaten anybody.  I guess I answered my own question.

I heard some quick hit on the radio driving to work this morning about another person drowning in the river in LaX.  Anyone from that area able to update about this sad story if true again???

Dallas,
Nice game summary. For those not there couple of games within the game. Big size and speed difference on the corners allowed La Crosse to play over the top more than normal. La Crosse receivers were constantly behind the WW corners and it was basically a pitch and catch game. WW did make some adjustments in personal at the half that helped close that down a little. WW had better do something about that going forward as the game films other teams watch will show that and the same happened at SCSU. Maybe it was the furious pass rush from the WW D in the second half. Hard to say but it changed the game. Same with the running game.
Got to say there was a couple of strange coaching calls on both sides. WW had a 4th and inches in La Crosse territory but chose to try a 42 yard FG into a stiff cross wind. I know the kid is good but maybe a 1-20 chance. Kind of told the O that the coaches didn't have faith in the line. On the La Crosse side I can't beleive they would call a deep pass with a kid that just came off the bench that got picked. His arm was cold as the other side of the pillow and had to have felt tremendous pressure to perform. Felt a little sorry for him.....(not really) Also didn't understand why La Crosse didn't go to a quick snap on O. WW continues to have problems getting D calls in early enough to get set.  Another issue that will show films for sure.
The La Crosse field was soaked from an early downpour so both teams were slipping around pretty good in the middle of the feild. Sure LA Crosse can't wait to tear that relic down. The vistors side had the worst bleachers in all of sports. Imported from a 3rd world. Womens soccer game going on right next to the feild with whistles. Unbeleivable. But the worst part was the classless La Crosse stadium staff who allowed the La Crosse fans to go into the vistors section after October festing all day. Man it was lucky that there wasn't some big ass whippin brawls cause in the first half the WW fans were in no mood for even a freindly "WW sucks" chant. The La Crosse "Chicken" I mean Eagle mascot added fuel to the fire by coming to WW side and ,ass in the airing, the WW fans.
What a rush to be there for the second half. My head is still spinning. The WW QB has some serious talent just couldn't get it going in the first half but showed he has a heart of a champion and why he was such a winner at his old school. You don't get DIII O player of the week last year for nothing.  If WW puts 4 quarters together it will be a wild ride.

A real Jekyll & Hyde game...it seemed like after WW's 2nd missed FG at 5:04 of the 3rd and then the fumble 2 minutes later, the teams changed roles in this one. LC completely imploded after that, with help from the WW D that starting to act and play like they were coming into this game.  The 12 penalties for 97 yards certainly didn't help LC's cause, either.  From the 3:04 mark in the 3rd quarter, LC finished punt, INT, punt, fumble, INT, fumble - all this coming from the team that could do no wrong for the first 42 minutes of the game.  I said this earlier in the 3rd quarter on the update thread, what happened to Dan Hall in this game? He was having a game for the ages after the first quarter, something like 8 rushes for 114 yards - but finished with "only" 136 on 22 carries.  He seem to disappear. Does WW D get the credit for that?  I don't know.  Moe was picking apart the WW secondary for big chunks, especially to Everson.  But, I guess in the end, the WW D stepped up when it counted the most and the WW offense woke up in time.

Can't say enough about the 2nd half Danny Jones had. What was he, 1-11-1 at one point, but finished at 16-30-1, 204, 2 TD's and the big 2-point conversion to tie the score.  Not great stats if you only looked at them, but for all the trouble he was having, it was a remarkable recovery.  No tell what this guy can do if he can put 4 good quarters together.  Big catches by Gifford and Mrkvica helped him out a lot.  It looked like Jake Anderson was unprepared to step up following the Beaver injury, fumbling right away, but he quickly reversed himself and I feel was another catalyst (12-73 6.1/avg) in the comback.  Beaver didn't get 200 again (26-155 6.0/avg), but he held things together during the first half when nothing else worked.  All in all, it was nearly an entire team bust in the first 42 minutes, but a total team effort in the comeback.

I haven't mentioned the D very much, but they were key to everything, though they went through a rough 1st half.  The hit on Moe was big time - hope he is alright - he played a heck of a game.  I think the LC coaching staff needs to re-evaluate their in-game tactics.  Going back to the Azuza game, they have shown a propensity to play poorly with a lead, going away from what was successful for them.  They got away with it against APU, but not today. From reading and listening to all the comments we heard coming out of LC this week, you know that this one's got to sting.  I hope they can bounce back next weekand make a run to the play-offs.  WW is in the drivers seat.

Very well said, BoBo.

Stealth,

If the LaCrosse receivers were getting behind our defenders and it was a game of pitch and catch why would you be surprised when the backup unloads a pass downfield?  I understand he's cold off the bench but it was what had been working, we'd gotten much better against their rushing attack in the second half and the game was tied in the closing three minutes.

Actually I think you may have answered your own question in the first sentence of your post when you said, "big size and speed difference on the corners."  That suggests they were playing to their strength vs our weakness at a point in the game when the score was tied and less than 3 minutes remained.   True, they were relying on someone who hadn't played in the game but it doesn't sound that baffling a strategy to me.

Of course, despite having stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, I doubt many WIAC coaches would want me as an offensive coordinator. :D

We chant "you f'ed up" and they have a mascot that sticks a chicken ass in your face when you're losing.  Sportsmanship is alive and kicking in the WIAC.   Pathetic on both accounts.   Considering the past I also got a chuckle when the play clock went on the fritz.

I noticed the calls coming in very late on WW's Defense too. Seems like they may want to fix that.

That's been a constant for a couple of seasons now.  Gives me a heart attack some times!

Just a thought.  I was in the stands and we were all (students and spectators,) chanting, "U-Dub-Dub, U-Dub-Dub,"" many times during the last 6 minutes.  I know the kids yell, "U effed up," after penalties but I'm guessing that those two chants sound a lot alike.  Is it possible that the students aren't saying the obscene chant nearly as much as it sounds like from across the field.

I think that's wishful thinking.  I'm pretty sure everyone in the place knew what was said when.

Besides, an obscene chant just some of the time isn't really anything to be more proud of.

I was going to chime in with some serious criticism of stealth while reading his post, but badgerwarhawk said it so well and from a UWW backer, it may have much more impact. +k to you badger....

Not defending anything, (I hate the cheer,) and not making excuses but you can't really dismiss the possibilty either.  Both start with YOU and both have the same number of syllables and cadence.  I know how many times the crowd chanted U-Dub-Dub, especially me, and and I haven't been a student for over 25 years. Just an observation.

Really impressed with how the Warhawks responded to adversity on Saturday against LaCrosse in a crazy Oktoberfest atmosphere.....really impressed with how ww's o-line played throughout the game, especially after beaver went out and their backup rb, anderson, came in.....i thought i saw something earlier this august about how they were going to miss their left tackle, but they seem better than last year
Contrary to popular belief, Justin Beaver was found to actually have a large "S" on his chest and he actually is INVINCIBLE.

I find your posts informative and humorous on most accounts and it's obvious your a Warhawk apologist. My point in this particular instance you seemed to have overlooked or misunderstood. WW got the interception because La Crosse was getting desperate and looking to change the momentum by going to the situation that had worked all day with someone who was fresh physically and mentally. Bless the kid for giving it a shot but he wasn't ready for it and running towards the sidelines the La Crosee coaches should have yelled at him to throw it away. You can't be playing to your strength with a new set of rules in place. I'm glad they didn't for our sake. My observation was directed to coaching decisions that may have played a bigger than talked about part of the game on both sides of the bog, I mean feild. Sitting in the middle of the WW fans I can say I never heard "you f'ed up". But I am a Warhawk apologist also and only condone our behavior.
