We don't need no stinkin' mascot at UWEC!  ;)

I had to live for 8.5 years of people wondering what the heck a Blugold is, since I was one in high school, too. Heard lots of ideas, but never BoBo's Marigold one... ha.

Heard the high school band once introduced during the Octoberfest parade as the Bulldogs... A local school, in a local parade, and the guy got our nickname wrong??? Go figure...

Not sure if he was in a pre-fest grounds mood at the time or not, maybe he added a little extra to his water bottle, to keep his throat from getting dry, as he announced all the units in the parade that passed him by???  ;D

14.5 hours or so til kickoff...

BoBo

bgbacker, bulk19,

Remember a year or so ago when Marquette University was announcing a renaming of the school nickname from Warriors, I mean, Goldern Eagles, to simply Gold???  The biggest complaint was "how could you pick a nickname that was nothing more than a color."  Have people in Eau Claire ever wondered the same about their [two color] nickname???  Or has it been around long enough that no one today even cares???

Well, as a resident of the planet Earth, I take offense to any mascot that references anything plant, mineral or animal.  The fungus between my toes, the steel plate in my head and the grrrr! in my XXX make me uniquely qualified to offended by anything.  My pride even makes me offended by your attempts to assuage my offense.

All WIAC teams must now be named the Event Horizons, so that they encompass everything and nothing simultaneously.  Anything less (or more), or any attempt to distinguish between the teams in name, capabilities, colors or support base, will be taken as widely offensive to someone, if not me, so must be stopped.

In fact, responses to this post will be offensive to those who either agree or disagree, conversely.

Just to clarify your situation, are you in fact an alien resident of planet earth, OzJohnny93???  And, if you please, how many light years must you travel to reach your home away from home???

But I am documented... or at least my children are.  Green-blooded hybrid ankle biters.

Someday I'll tell you the story of how I abducted my wife at 2am in an Iowa backwater.  The day that the little critters burst out of her chest looking for humans to munch was that happiest day of my life.

Then you are perfectly content with your mascot being a Johnny. What is that, anyway?
Two words:  THE STREAK

OzJohnnie

Johnnies?  Why Johnnies are no less that the mighty fighting men of St John's University in Collegeville!  The aspirations of which are inspirations for all who meet them.  The proud wearers of the Cardinal and Blue!  The ranks of which include captains of industry, Senators and a 9/11 hero, not to mention the tireless numbers of brothers and priests that sustain a school and spirit of which we are all proud and honored to be a part.

And that is a Johnnie.  ;)

Ya, let's not even get started on the ingenuity that created mascots such as the St.Thomas Tommies, the St. Olaf Oles and, yes, the rulers of the MIAC, the St. John's Johnnies!   ;) :D ;D

You have to admit it.  With four ranked teams, it's pretty cool to go to the D3Football.com scoreboard page and see the entire WIAC schedule with out scrolling down.

Point wins it's 7th straight WIAC game by 3 points or less.  26-23.

What's the early line, Just Bill, for next week???  Point by 3 maybe???  Whitewater by ____???

This is where it gets real fun, wouldn't you say?  ;D

In a game that gave credence to the cliche, the Blugolds weren't as good (as bulk19 and bgbacker) thought they were, and the Falcons weren't as bad (as kestrel) pegged them:  UWRF 27 and UWEC 20.

At the 13:03 mark prior to kickoff UWRF took a diSTINKt advantage when their farm management people made two passes with the "honey wagon" directly behind the UWEC stands.  A rather benign breeze failed to carry the particulates to the nostrils of the Falcon faithful across the away.  Then early in Quarter #3 a streaker made a long run through the EC defense but failed to expose any weaknesses except those of a personal nature.

Heard on the way home:  UWSP 26 and Stout Polytechnical University 23.  Also, UWP 37 and UWL 34.

Point is who I thought they were.  (When did Denny Green get on this board?)

They are a young team that makes a bunch of mistakes and also a bunch of good plays.  They have shown a remarkable ability to pull out close games and come from behind.  All of that is wonderful, I commend them and I've really enjoyed the season so far, but.......

they're not beating Whitewater.  It's not going to happen.

As I said they make a fair number of mistakes.  They've been able to overcome them to this point, but a team like Whitewater will absolutely punish them for those mistakes.  I hope it stays close into the fourth, but I'm not counting on it.

More highlights from Falcon win:  Baillargeon--16 total tackles, 7  solos; Shane Hanson--a blocked EP as EC was about to tie it at 14; Mike Zweifel--a 41 yard scamper for a score on the ensuing squib kick by EC; Harmon--19/27 passing, most of them ten yards or less; Anderson--126 yards on 33 carries and a td; Ryan Hansen, tight end--9 catches for 73 yards.

EC was a good team, but turned it over four times (3 fumbles, one int.); Sartorelli--172 yards rushing, 37 carries; Schauble averaged 42 yards on 6 punts; EC--319 total yards to 311 for Falcons.

Just Bill,

I like your measured response to the Pointer season to date.  I think you have a good handle on this team.  It's funny, I got a gut feeling listening to the WW/OSH game that Whitewater's failures to put the ball into the endzone (having to settle for 4 FG's) was going to cause them trouble at the end...and I was almost right. An experienced Titan team was hanging in the game, despite not being able to move the ball effectively or consistantly.  After the second half 86 yard kickoff return for a TD, I felt there might be a shift in momentum in favor of UW-O, but it never fully materialized.  Whitewater's defense made the plays when they needed to make one.  But, it wasn't until the two INT's in the fourth that you could feel a little comfort.  The one major thing I notice with this WW team from the past two is their inability to counter an opponents mistakes like those two teams did; they haven't shown a quick strike capability that those other teams possessed (punish the other team to use your words).  As a result, their opponents must feel that thay are always in the game, even down a couple scores.  To a young team like the Pointers, that can only help them maintain their composure with first place on the line.  Plus, with UMHB looming the following week, the Pointers might be catching them at the right time.
