Just Bill--as you suspect, Stan Z. is NOT running the offense. He has had an impact, both last spring during drills when he was present, and in the booth during Falcon games. Our O  coordinator, Coach Kotelniki, calls the shots. Does Stan have input? Of course. Why wouldn't we take advantage of his experience/knowledge? But it's not his "O for UWRF."

stoutguy--thanks for the offer, regardless of your confusion regarding the winning team, but my wife says we have to get the pontoon out and stored next weekend. Unless I can figure out how to get it done during the week and avoid a trip to the Hayward area on the weekend, and the odds I can get that done are NOT good, I will miss the Stout game.

I just knew that the WHINNING WARHAWK  fans would again bring up the 2001 game when they got BEAT at OSH!!!  But what I really found funny you made other stupid statements that the last OSH win was 1976.

You say "again dominated" OSH...well 5 points up with 5 minutes to go and OSH has the ball, sounds to me like WW was 1 play from going down...man if that would have happened, your team of WW lawyers would be busy today looking for illegal players.

And the WW "ugly" special teams (did give up a TD on a kick off) BUT the 4 FG's and the WW punter won the game.

The QB...kept OSH in the game...I don't see the Stagg Bowl this year with him!!  Sorry to burst your bubble!!

Yesterday, Oshkosh's defense played very well.  Other than Beaver breaking a few (a very few) tackles, the Osh D was really swarming and not missing any tackles.  The WW pass game was almost entirely a quick look, and if nothing there immediately, Jones would take off and run.
That may have been a conservative mindset entering the game, reinforced by the WW D clamping down very well right from the start.  Ball security seemed to be the top concern after Beaver's fumble in the 1st.  May have been at the expense of possible plays - but the overall result worked out for the Warhawks.
Thought your assessment was very good. I especially agree with this comment.  That will need to change.  Jones needs to keep watching for WR's to get open as he scrambles. Saw some missed opportunities yesterday.  I think this will progress though as he continues to learn to trust them.  And he needs to put the ball out there ahead of his WR's some times and trust them to close the gap.  Trust their speed and play-making ability.  Congrats to the Hawks on the win.  UWO always plays them tough and we all know that in the WIAC, there are no gimmies.

Just as bad as watching Stout lose to SP yesterday was hearing that Jim Strick, SID at Point is leaving for a position in Minnesota.  A class act and the best at what he does.  Good luck, Jim.

Thanks for the info.  BW filled me in too.  I didn't realize Stan Z. was helping at all.  Even so I think it's a bit ridiculous to call it his offense.

I was definitely disappointed with the pass offense of UWW... Jones was way too quick to abandon the pass in my opinion... In his defense, he seemed to have a connection with Gifford (as we saw in LAX), and Gifford didn't play....

I think we've seen flashes from time to time.  In the radio post-game Coach L talked about some misses chances, so I think he's looking at it the same way.

Hope for a break-out this week in Point.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Watching the game reminded me of a heavy weight title fight. There was so much at stake that "cutting loose" was definetly not in the game plan. There is not a thing wrong with being methodical and efficient and I would bet that was stressed all week. A W against a tough over all defense is a good confidence builder. Yup Jones had some shots in the middle of the feild after the protection broke down that he either didn't see early enough or didn't want to chance a turnover. Films will show that. But he was efficient, made nice passes when needed, didn't turn it over , TD pass and if it was for one maybe two bad calls from the ref it would have been a different story. One pass interference in the end zone where the Osh defender mugged our receiver and the one where Jones went deep and the Osh defender basically tackled our wide out in route to the ball. I would say that WW is taking thier shots but in this game methodical and efficient were the flavor of the day. There will be the 300 yard pass/receiving day when the opportunity is right.
But what is up with the clock management again ? Leave 3 TO's on the board. 4th and 3 going into half time. Come on coach. We could hear the players saying go for it. Give em some love. One or two shots in the end zone would have been nice and then the Jones questioneers could feel better about themselves.  :P
BTW Homecoming was great. Big thanks to everyone who put it together. Especially loved the 1 am drunks parade downtown.  ;D Main street this morning looked like someting out of a si fi flick.

Oh yeah. The WW defense again was huge. They were all over the place. Osh game plan to wide outs never materalized due to the rush and corner coverage. I don't think any of us saw that coming with Patek having the numbers he "was" having.

Seemed like Oshkosh was playing a cover 2 or something similar....they were just trying to keep everything in front of them and not give up the big play...the Whitewater passing game improved when they started hitting the shorter routes....too much running by Jones though...he needs to either throw the ball away or run out of bounds instead of taking the hits...it was certainly a quiet 170 yards by Beaver....I can only remember one run longer than 20 yards

BoBo

Barber,
I think you would agree that a quiet 35 carry, 179 yard/5.1 average from Beaver sure beats a relatively tranquil 14 carry, 65 yard (22 on one carry) effort by their best guy Andy Moriarty? ;D  However, I heard the radio commentary talk repeatedly about the yards after first contact.  As a result, I don't think the Oshkosh defenders would say it was too quiet - his second effort included taking a number of them on rides or chasing after him before they were able to bring him down.

413,

With 60% of the regular season over and arguably the toughest test coming up (UMHB), there's not much time left to gain the trust you speak of.  Do you get a sense that this warhawk offense just doesn't suit the strengths of Jones' game?  Maybe, in a slight way, makes his QB'ing deficiencies even more glaring?  It seems like much of the discussion about the passing game struggles (that might not be the right word; inconsistancies maybe?) Whitewater is going through center on the QB not being comfortable with his receivers.  Might it not be time to raise more questions about the wideouts ability to adapt, as well?  They may be fast and have playmaking potential, but it's a 2-way street and many of them appear simply too inexperienced or otherwise unable to provide what's needed to get their QB in a decent, consistant, comfort zone.  Or does it all come down to the QB?

Four WIAC teams in the Top 25 only lasted 1 week. Playing conference games takes a toll for sure.  To see how far La Crosse has slipped, Harden-Simmons in the current poll is picking up more votes.  How quickly things have turned sour for the Eagles.  :o
