I also remember that game .....4 hour ride from Chicago......3 hours of rain in the bleachers ....a severe beating at the hands of Krause and crew....the field was predominantly mud but that probably helped keep the Pointers from scoring more. Best part of the day was lunch at Sentry World with some great Bloody Marys .......This year we pound the rock at the mudhole and reverse that score.....

*sigh*

I miss Scott Krause.

Anyway I figure it's about time to give my prediction.  I think Point has trouble getting Mike Ferron going (since no other RB gets going on WW either), so they go heavy to the air which will pay off for a while.  WW runs Beaver every which way, and while Point can contain him for a while, eventually he'll spring some longer runs.  Jones does just enough throwing and running to keep Point off balance, but he does make a few mistakes and Point jumps on at least 1 INT.

WW gets the early lead, Point recovers to put up a score or two.  Point scores early in the third to get just close enough to make it interesting, until WW puts the hammer down in the fourth and shuts the door.

That dude has a serious problem with our unis!  Frankly, I like the simple, old-school look.  I'm not going to sweat the opinion of a guy that has a website dedicated to uniforms, though :D

Paul Lukas' column on ESPN.com is the most entertaining read on their Page 2.  Don't always agree with every thing he says (he hates purple, and not only have I sported UWW purple, I wore my high school's purple jersey), but mostly I do and it beats the blather that is found in most of their stuff.

St John's helmets?  I saw the names in pictures before.  Thought it a little silly, but ho-hum.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

stoutguy--If the Stout coaches actually did what you say they did, watch WW film to get  ready for RF, I'm encouraged about the Falcon chances.

O'Grady will give Stan credit for help, but will give the lion's share to Kotelnicki, O coordinator.

To give credit where it's due, I mistakenly gave credit to CB Shane Hanson for blocking the EP against EC. It was Nathan Tenut, 6'8," 325 lb O guard who pulled it off, and was chosen Special Teams Player of the Week for the Falcons.

When the Falcons beat Stout Saturday, it will be their first win at Williams Field.

I like the name on the helmet. Helps me identify players in photos. :)

Agreed.  Especially when there are so many players with duplicate numbers that play in the same games.

This uniwatch thing is kicking up a bunch of dust over on the MIAC page, as one might expected.  If you read the commentary completely & clearly, Duffman, he doesn't comment negatively about the the uniforms (old-school, simple), rather, he thinks the players name over the nose bumper looks unusual and Mickey Mouse, plain & simple.

Isn't the guy entiltled to his opinion, though? You of all people should respect that. I mean, not everybody who looks at your website agrees with your opinion, either ;).  But, they still read it.  I've seen the pictures before, too, and like most people, never really cared.  But, Mickey Mouse is very old school and very classy, IMO. Do I like the name on the helmet?  Not especially, but I don't dislike it either.  I actually like the look of the script name of the Penn. HS team better because it is less conspicuous, but their uniform isn't old-school or simple. I just can't agree with the argument that displaying the name the way SJU does is old school. The only "negative" thing said (if you want to call it that) other than the name on the helmet was questioning why if you're going to put the players names on the front of the helmet, why not put the name on the back of their jersey?  Not's not an insult.

So, as the guy questioned, why not put the names on the back of the jersey's, too.  You can't always take pictures showing their front, right?  Or do you?

They're not there for me (or Pat).  It is an unintended consequence from which we benefit.

I can't always take pictures showing the back, either.

retagent

I just found it strange that the doofus would comment without doing a small amount of research, and getting the reason for the names on the helmets. Then, he can comment from a position not born of ignorance. It seems that far too many people have opinions that aren't the least bit informed these days..

BoBo

retagent, I've been reading all the comments, but, unless I missed it, haven't heard the reason for it.  Enlighten me if you know, please...thanks.

Reason:

180+ guys on the roster, duplicate numbers--much easier for the coaching staff and players to learn everyone's names!

Sure, the guy is entitled to his opinions, but I'd consider using the term "Micky Mouse" in regards to a team's uniform a slam.

No one has to agree with what I say on here or on www.JohnnieFootball.com, but you all certainly have the right and ability to call me out on anything I say (and you usually do ;)).

Putting names on the helmets is also easier that sewing a name on a jersey.  The players do it themselves and it is as easy as putting some stickers on the front of the helmet.  No sewing for the equipement  manager.  And this way the players always have their names on them, not just during games (I assume most places don't have a name on their practice jerseys).

And, as a final plus, when a guy gets drilled by a Johnnie, he knows who did it to him ;D

Lets be honest the reason why point wont win the weekend and possible get dominated is because they dont have the nicknames like they use too.  I remember the announcer used to give each player sweet nicknames and he really go away from that.  This is why Point doesnt have a chance.
Also #3 is an UNREAL blocking receiver now lets get him some catches for all his hardwork.
