I don't know, mhb8904, I have been listening to the oppositions broadcast teams as of late. Nothing personal to UMHB's Cooper and Haffner, but they just lack something. Plus, I also enjoy when the opposing team's broadcasters comment on the UMHB speed. The classic quote came from CNU in the opener, "Mary Hardin-Baylor's defense is so fast it almost seems like they are playing with 15 players."

That speed will definitely be tested Saturday. I hope it passes.

Nobody is as fast on soggy turf as they are on an artificial surface.   But truth be told your speed has really, really got me concerned.  I doubt that we've seen anyone who comes even close to matching it.

It's no big deal  mhb8904  but I did not say what you've quoted me saying.   I haven't made any comments about the student broadcasters.  In fact if you'd ever heard me doing color commentary in high school football games, something I've done for a couple of years now, you'd probably cringe.  Two weeks ago I predicted a team would win because their defense was stonger.  They lost and allowed 48 points and over 450 yards of offense in the process.

Personally, I'm still amazed they keep contacting me and asking me back.   :D

Good point about a soggy field, badgerwarhawk. It could well neutralize any speed factor.

It was Barber Greene, I believe,  that made the statement about student broadcasters.

Duffman, we do not pratice on our turf field because it is not ours. Our games are at the local high school field which we do not practice on. We have a grass practice area on campus, hopefully in the next decade or so UMHB will build their own field but I am not holding my breath on that one.

I've listened to the Whitewater broadcast team of Gary and Ted.  They seem to do a pretty good job.  You can link to the KOOL 106.5 broadcast tomorrow beginning at 12:30 by clicking onto:

Turf makes no difference in a game both teams play on the same field and it slows everyone down equally, so things like letting the grass grow long for a specific opponent is just stupid and provides no advantage.

I would disagree as the team that customizes the grass height has the experience of it.  They know how to play on it (either pick legs up higher or whatever else may work for each individual player).  It will slow the fast players down enough where being in the proper position can help a defender and juke moves can be less of a factor.

Okay, that makes sense.

MHB won't beat Whitewater. The elements may play a factor, however, I feel that the educational system of Wisconsin and Texas will be the determining factor.  In Texas (and the South in general) there are so many DI, DII, NAIA, and Community Colleges in each state, that anybody who is decent typically goes to a scholarship school. In Wisconsin, on the other hand,  the only major scholarship football program is UW-Madison. If you are not talented enough to be a Badger, you go to a DIII school. The WIAC, in turn, gets premier athletes, that perhaps in other states, would be going to scholarship schools. Having grown up in Wisconsin, and now living in Mississippi (where I've watched both Millsaps and Mississippi College play), I simply think that the talent level in the WIAC is better than that of the ASC.

Well, since LC65 has spoken I suppose there is no reason to even play the game. Somebody get on the phone and tell Coach Fred and the CRU to just do a little site seeing and head for home in the morning. And ask 'em to bring some cheese back for me.

Gee, LC65, you should have chimed in sooner, that way UMHB could have saved the money being wasted on airfare and hotels on this futile trip to Wisconsin.

Can't wait until tomorrow should be quite a game......I enjoy these games  much more now that we don't have anyone playing. Pound the Rock guys and hold their running game in check like last year and we will enjoy  monster margaritas after the game to the fullest....See you at the Perk....Go Warhawks!!!.....

All that may be true on a system wide perspective, but in one single game it doesn't amount to jack squat.

Plus, you're ignoring the fact that Texas has 4 times as many people as Wisconsin and their high school football programs are about 10 times better.

Plus karma to Just Bill for a very thoughtful response. I believe the size differential is a fair approximation, but I can't speak to the football statement since I have no reference point for comparison.

There isn't a wall around Wisconsin, if a DI caliber player is willing to leave the state there are DI options. For example MAC schools recruit heavily in Wisconsin (especially Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan).

I think the fact that there are no DII programs in Wisconsin has more of an effect at the DIII level.
