In the penultimate week of the WIAC season, the Blugolds, leading 14-7, but losing the momentum to the Pointers, had a big blocked punt returned for a TD near the end of the third quarter to regain the advantage, on the way to a 28-7 victory in Point...

On the next Pointer possession, the Blugolds'  safety Kyle Meulemans picked off a pass and returned it for a TD - the team's 5th INT TD on the year - to close out the quarter up 28-7...

QB Nick Venden relieved Jake Swank (9-15, 128 yards) after three quarters for the Pointers, who were without RB Nick Ferron, a DNP. WR Brad Kalsow was also injured early in the game; he tore something, and is likely out for the last game of the year in La Crosse.

Blugolds had four turnovers, but were the beneficiaries of five turnovers by UWSP... Once again, Blugold D and special teams come up big again, as they have done all season... Matt Hall punched in a TD run; Mitch Schaueble to Tony Hull for a 20-yard TD was the other UWEC score... I forget the details of the Pointer scoring play...

Congrats to the Warhawks, who win the conference title, while the 'Golds, at 7-2 and 4-2, are currently sitting in second in the conference standings. UWSP is now 6-3 and 3-3...

Blugolds are back home next week to host the Blue Devils...

Final out of River Falls; Lacrosse 49 River Falls 34

Offensive shootout for much of the game.  Lacrosse benefited from several great kickoff returns including one for a touchdown.  Big game out of Dan Hall running the football capped off by a huge 94 yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Nate Anderson had another big day adding onto his UWRF all-time record setting career rushing yards.  Zweifel set a WIAC single game record with 18 receptions.

Congrats to my Hawks for there 3rd straight conference championship!!  What an amazing accomplishment.   I have to give a lot of credit to Stout.  They fought extremely hard and had they not given us the ball inside their 30 three times this game could have been much closer.   The Beav had probably the quietest 250+ yard rushing game in history.. (if there is a quiet 250)  If you take away his two long runs where BlueDevil Bob and Goo could have run through the hole, he was held in check most of the game.   All in all a great win and yet another proud year to be a Warhawk Alum.

Congrats to the WARHAWKS players, coaches and support staff.  A third consecutive WIAC championship for the first time in the program's history.

It was a tough game.  Stout's defense was very aggressive and despite the score did a pretty decent job.  Our third down offense was simply horrid and we never seemed to get any sort of rhythm going.   Fortunately our defense was pretty good today as well.

A conference championship and the league's automatic bid into the post season were goal #1 and today they were accomplished.  Now it's important to focus on goal #2 by beating Platteville and keeping the #1 seed in the region and home field as long as we're still playing.

As an aside.....The WARHAWKS women's volleyball team followed their regular season championship with the WIAC tournament championship today 3-1 over Platteville giving them the conference's automatic bid into the post season.

stoutguy--was it you who said LaX is done? Not quite. However, had we had good special teams play, we could have won it. As it was, Falcons had decided stat edges in yards gained (514-428) and first downs (27-17), but gave up 251 yards in 5 k.o. returns, including one for a t.d. and one to our 15 yard line which resulted in a t.d. the next play. Also, in a colossal blunder, Falcons faked a punt on about their own 30 on a 4th and about ten. Hello? So, we did not deserve to win.

Unfortunately, the record setting day for both Anderson (declared the all time leading Falcon rusher before the game), and Zweifel were dimmed somewhat by the loss.

Congrats to the Warhawks for running through the WIAC again this year.

I was at the game today and unfortunately very unimpressed by the team.  When I got hom and saw Beaver had 250 I had no idea that he gained yardage except for the long touchdown run (offense snapped quick possibly on sound and they got ot the corner).  Not only could the QB not throw accurately, hs receivers were not catching when thrown to.

I was impressed with the defense of the Warhawks and the huge hit on the sideline by the safety in the fourth quarter.  That  pretty much ended the game as that set the tone for the long passes at the end of the game.

I really do fear that this UWW team is representing the WIAC in the playoffs as they do not seem to have "it".  The OLine is not what it was, the qb is not even near where he should be, and the biggest surprise was how Beaver was bottled up on most of his runs 0-3 yards typically.

Devil, you should have seen them last week.  They were top notch on both sides of the ball (until they went ultra-conservative).  I would guess they suffered a bit of letdown after that high.  And Stout was playing their last home game-that's usually a fired up game for a home team in that situation.

I think they will lay the lumber to Platteville next week on Senior Day, then use that as a springboard into their playoff run.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

DBG, it wasn't just Danny Jones who didn't show much. The QB play on both sides, statistically (I can't comment on a visual standpoint as I listened to the radio), was poor (WW 9-24 1 TD, 2 int; Stout 15-44 2 int).  If you review the WW season game by game, the defense has carried them all year. The offense has struggled many times (but before today had improved play the last couple weeks), but the defense has rarely wavered, except for the first 2/3's of the LC game.  I think you have to give the Stout D credit for playing an inspired game more than knocking the WW offense.  Again today, WW's defense was "stout", holding the Blue Devils under 200 yards offensively, their lowest output of the year.  As KitchenSink mentioned, after last weeks win over MHB, it seemed WW was just trying to get out of Stout with a win and no injuries. That was a major concern addressed over and over throughout the game on the radio broadcast.  First up is Platteville, but they'll be ok in making a strong playoff run.

Congrats to UW-WW on another WIAC Title. They are certainly worthy champs and hopefully will represent us well in the NCAA's.

Blugolds did not have to go to a 6th QB today. #5 (Schaeuble) was good enough for a W at Point (8X13 for 167 YP IN 1ST half). Once again, EC gets outgained by an opponent and wins ..blocked kick and TD runback the big play.

Raise your hand if you predicted EC for 2nd in the WIAC. (all alone or tied regardless of next week's outcome).

A lot of talk about the quite nature of Justin Beaver's 44 rush, 248 yard day.  During the game I thought something was wrong with the Stout live stats and after reviewing the play-by-play, I believe there was a error in the yards.  The live stats was showing him at about 143 yards at one point (11:55 of the 3rd), then credited him with a 59 yard run from the WW 17 (60 yards in the official stats posted on the Stout website) on a 3rd and 8 play, that as I listened to the broadcast, didn't happen.  The next play would have been first and ten, however, the play by play indicates it was followed by a Nick Croak punt that supposedly went minus 8 yards.  Why would WW punt on 1st and 10 from the Stout 23? I believe there is a mistake in the stats and when corrected will indicate Beaver had 44 rushes for approximately 189 yards.  Nick Croak's punting stat's also need to be adjusted.

From sitting in the Blue Seats today at the Stout vs WW game, i would def. have to say I too was quite shocked to see that Beaver had 250 yards.  He did have the long run for the TD where WW caught Stout by surprise with a quick snap where he ran untouched for the score.   I would say that 189 or 190 sounds a lot more like it.  He really did not impress me to the heights that the Warhawk gods believe he is the best rb in WIAC history.  (kind of a joke)  A consensus from my son (who plays on D-side of the ball for stout) along with a couple others is that Dan Hall from LaX is a tougher runner to bring down and also very comparable to the young man from Point.

J44

Just went through the stats from the entire game and Beaver was credited for an extra 60 yard gain early in the third quarter than never happened.  So his unofficial total is 44 carries for 189 yards.  Take away the 63 yard TD along with the 24 yarder, he had 42-102...   I think if you give the ball to Coach Liepold 42 times he could probably get 102 yards also.. However, I doubt he would have broken the two longer runs.

BoBo

...and if you take away the 42 short runs, Beaver would have had 2 carries for 87 and a TD - twice the rushing yards that Stout had in 22 less carries!!  ;)
