Good catch ! I should have started another paragraph. I didn't mean to infer screens as trick plays. A few screens do keep a D line honest. Jones has the scrambling ability that drives teams crazy as witnesses by last weekends performance, the long TD pass was not the primary play, that could be why the screen is not a staple in the pay book but I doubt we have seen the whole arsenal of plays just yet.

Stealth, that sounds about right also very rarely do you see good teams run trick plays. In the four times UWW has played Mount Union I have not seen the Purple Raiders run a trick play.
Whitewater did try a reverse pass last year in the stagg bowl butt just like the rest of their offense that day it didn't work. I am not sure who threw it Douglas or Stanley but it was incomplete.
Normally the teams who run trick plays are the ones who can not line up,and beat the teams they are playing. I do not consider a screen or a reverse a trick play. However a reverse pass, or flea flicker or something to that extent is totally a trick play.

Considering that Capital threw every play they had at the WW D in the first half it is a testament to how good the D really is. No way you can have one week to study film, run scout team and then go out and execute for all of those plays. Raw talent and discipline come into the mix. 2nd half WW D  had seen and took the best Capital O could throw at them. Well we all know the result.  ;D ;D

Nice to see the Capital coach give credit for turnovers to the defense and not attibuting it to his O's bad day."
   Hawks D was awesome again!
           From warhawkfootball.com:
11/18/2007  Defense shines on a gloomy day at Perkins Stadium
UW-Whitewater's offense has gotten plenty of headlines, and deserving so, over the Warhawks' amazing three year run.  In a couple of high-focus games this season, UW-W's opponent's defenses have arrived at Perkins Stadium boasting tremendous statistics that ranked at the very top of NCAA Division III. In both cases, against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Capital University, it has been the Warhawk defense that has played the dominating, ball-hawking defense that led to impressive wins.  In Saturday's 34-14 Warhawk win, Borland's defense limited the Crusaders to just 227 yards of offense including only 32 yards rushing on 27 attempts.  Senior linebacker AJ Raebel paced the Warhawk defense by recording 12 tackles, including 8 solo stops, to move into first place in the school record book. Raebel added a forced fumble and a sack in the first round playoff win.  (In the adjacent photo, AJ Raebel (#33) records one of his 12 tackles against Capital on the way to establishing a new career record for tackles passing Jim Walters 320 career tackles (1970-73)- photo courtesy of Jeff Seisser, Daily Jefferson County Union)  The Warhawks' defense also forced five turnovers in the game including three interception (two by Ben Farley and one by Tristan Borzick). Ryan Ogrizovich and Nic Romeo also came up with fumble recoveries in the game. Ogrizovich turned his fumble recovery into a key touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to give Whitewater a 27-14 lead.

"Turnovers were killers," commented Capital head coach Jim Collins following last Saturday's game. "They (Whitewater) are a defense that we knew could force turnovers, and they did."

Is Shebler going to be out the rest of the year? He is a BIG reason why I picked WW to go all the way.

Was he dressed against Capital?

Yes, to some extent. He had the shoulder pads on and sweatpants. Not sure if he had the playing pants on underneath the sweatpants. He didn't participate in warm ups that I saw.

Nope he was hunting with 10,000 others.  ;)

Schebler is just resting a sore hammie as I understand it.  Going on 2 weeks rest now by sitting Saturday.  I am sure they are just trying to get him every day they can to heal.  He should be there when they really need him.

Where's the EC banter here?  It seems like it's all WW all the time.  We'd love to see you smack Bethel around, although the thought of revenge the following week (if all goes right to get there) is appealing as well.

janesvilleflash

Not much to banter about. EC's run defense will easily shut down Bethel's freshman running back, end of game.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Here's to hoping you're right.  How did the WIAC teams do against the Beav when he was a freshman?  Shut him down?

Does UWW have a bye week this week?  Pretty much if they are playing a CCIW team.  Here is my predicition 42-14.  The Naperville boys dont stand a chance.  Cant wait to see it.  Schebler could probably take this week off along with next week.
As for the trick plays, usually when your offense is amongst the best in the country you dont have to use to many trick plays.  Maybe we should try the annexation of Puerto Rico.

badgerwarhawk

One thing about trick plays is that once you show one your future opponents have to waste practice time preparing for the possibility you might use it again.  But having to rely on them is a sure sign of the fact that you aren't very good offensively.

Does Mount Union use trick plays?  That's a rhetorical question, no one need answer.

I don't even think NCC is showing up this week. Tell your team to take the week off.

Voice is upset the Perk was so empty last week(over on warhawkfootball.com) 40 degree rain, and deer hunting were probably the major reason, along with higher prices and no freebies for students. Saturday being Thanksgiving weekend promises to be similar.

The games being televised may have hurt last Sat., as I admit I went to a bar to watch, and there were several others doing the same. I would have gone to the game if it wasn't on tv. Maybe they should put the tv coverage on a delay.

That is a good idea but I would be surprised if they did it.  Hope the fans are not getting spoiled after the last two play-off runs or taking anything for granted.  Every game could be the end of the season and having a noisy and packed stadium is crucial to give the Hawks the full affect of home field advantage!  Especially this weekend as the NCC campus is only about 2 hours from the perk.  They could have a very good turnout.
