My 40 time is sooo sloooow..................

How slow is it?

Stanley was fast, but he was definitely quicker than he was fast..   At his workout last spring for the Dolphins and Packers he ran a 4.56 40..   The two Stout boys both ran faster 40's..  Goes to show that the 40 time does not often corelate to production on the field, as he is the only one still with an NFL organization.

Pro scouts like straight forward speed for some positions but they really like quickness in route running for receivers. How fast can he cut, get to zones, etc.

I've always thought that speed is overrated for receivers. I think, as has been stated above, running a precise route, and good hands are more important than flat out speed.

I am not going to come on this board and say that he runs a 4.2, because I don't believe it either.  That could only happen by a VERY generous hand timed trial.  However, I have seen this kid up close and personal.

I student taught and coached at Belton High School in his junior offseason.  His speed is very impressive, but his strength was always what impressed me the most in his workouts.

The team I coached played against Belton in Daniels' senior year, and I also was a powerlifting coach for my school and saw him compete in 3 meets over his senior year.  His bench was around 275 or 285 which is somewhat impressive.  But I watched him squat 565 and deadlift 620.  He was a hair away from 640. Not bad for being in the 181 lbs division.

If you watch him on saturday I hope you get to see his breakaway speed as he carries the ball( Im quite sure you UWW fans wish the opposite).  But you can see it on one of the hopefully few punts that UMHB has to boot.  He is a gunner split out wide.  The most amazing thing that you can tell from the way he runs that gives him his speed is his abnormal stride length for someone his size.  I have seen many kids run at a full out sprint both in my playing and my coaching days, but I don't recall ever seeing someone putting together the two elemental keys for speed so well: turnover and stride length.

Anyways, I just thought I'd give some first hand insight if anyone was interested.

And yes, he did turn down  some Div. I offers to stay close to his family and play for UMHB, a team that he no doubt grew up watching in Belton as a kid.  I know this because I have had the pleasure of speaking to the remarkable young man his senior year after I learned that he was going to attend UMHB.

Good luck to both teams this weekend!!

Glad to see the board is back to normal.  Retangent you must be joking.  Speed is all that matters, you cant teach speed.  Look at all the top WR in the NFL they are all extremely fast.  They run good routes cause they were taught too by the best coaches in the world.
As for Stanley and Talton both extremely fast but at much at it hurts me to say this Garcon is faster than both.  Although I have never seen an athlete as quick or as athletic as Stanley straight away I would have to give it to Garcon.

Thrasher or Daniels who cares how fast they are we wont see it on Saturday unless they are chasing a defensive player after a TO.

Speed does mean a lot for some wide receivers, however you can be a great WR even if you lack the 4.3 4.4 speed.  A great example would be Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Sterling Sharpe, Hines Ward, and many more.  All of these guys were reported to have ran at their fastest in the 4.5-4.6 range.. Antwon Boldin of the Arizona Cardinals is a great young WR, and everyone remembers his 4.71 40 at the NFL combine.   But guys like, TO, Moss, Chad Johnson are an example of guys w/ blazing speed that are also elite WR's.  Speed definitely helps, but is not crucial to being a GREAT WR.

Goo 62

You might not need blazing speed but if you dont have it you better have unbelievable hands or you better be big and be able to block.  Like the guys bobhawk named.  Its a speed game now.  Its not like it used to be for all you old farts

Of course, there are UWW fans who say Raebel runs a 4.5

I think you misunderstood...Warhawk fans weren't talking about his 40 times, they were talking the force of his hits using the Richter Scale to measure.  I'm sure 4.5 is quite low because according to the Richter Scale, a 4.5 often is felt, but rarely causes damages.  We both know that is not the case.  I would estimate his numbers to be somewhere in the 6.1 - 6.9 level - that is, can be destructive in areas up to about 100 kilometers across where people live.

Old School's Thoughts on this week's posts:

1.  Love this post from WABCO, "Great seniors we lose.  Great Juniors, Sophs, Frosh we have."  Who is this guy...frickin' Yoda?

2.  Not only can the Cali Kid play in the snow, but, he did it without sleeves or gloves.  Gotta like that.

3.  Regarding noisemakers...back in the day when UW-RF ran the wishbone, playing up there was crazy.  At least half of their fans were using airhorns at ANY point during the game.  Lucky for us, we had Levake.  He merely gave the crowd a disaproving look and we heard no more than a whisper for the rest of the game.

4.  As much as I love the "Corky from Life Goes On" reference and bold predictions, I think your a bit off on the final.  It will be a TD or less, I'm going with 28-24 Hawks.  UMHB was the only game I saw all year and if they don't throw 18 yard outs into the wind, it's a much different game.  Not to mention, they don't look like they work on the passing game much anyway either offensively or defensively. Finally, the fans that traveled to Wisco last time are completely out of their minds.  They stayed behind the team no matter how bad it got.

I'm impressed at causing such a stir by repeating something I was told at a UMHB game earlier this year.  I only meant to point out that UMHB doesn't exactly suffer a letdown at RB if Thrasher goes out.  Whatever Quincy's official combine 40 might be, he's definitely fast and definitely really strong for his size.

As far as D1 offers, he definitely got some, but not too many of the big name schools are knocking down the doors to get a guy his size (listed 5'8" 190 on the UMHB website) to play running back, no matter how fast they may be.

bobhawk

Gosh it sure is nice to be agreeing with Goo these days..  It's hard to argue with a guy who has been calling it on the nuts lately..   I sincerely believe that if anyone thinks MHB is going to come into the Perk and keep it within 14 points is CRAZY..  Regardless of how fast their RB's are, it simply doesn't matter when there aren't holes to run through.  AJ, Borz and the boys will be more than ready to shut them down.  I predict Beav will get 0 carries in the 4th quarter.

I sure hope the crusaders are ready for the weaher. It is supposedly in the 80's down in Benton right know, and it's well below freezing here in Wisconsin. I don't care how cold it gets in Texas, as I am sure it doesn't get this cold down there, and I think weather will be a factor, and therefore that along with home field advantage goes to the Hawks.
As far as the score The Hawks win by 14 for sure as their run defense is top notch and will stuff the crusaders just like last time.
Beaver will roll as he will be two slippery to catch, and the defense will get at least three turnovers.

Justin Beaver is the West region finalist for the Gagliardi.  On the front page.

Congrats, Beav!
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

CruAlum39

I am going to counter all the talk about UMHB not being ready for the cold weather by reiterating something that was already said in another thread.

I understand from reading the posts of the UWW fans that you practice indoors when it is cold and snowing/wet, etc.  As a HS football coach, I understand that sometimes that is not always a bad thing, especially when you are introducing an opponent early in the week.  It provides a little bit more of a "classroom" setting if you will.  However, once the gameplan is in and you know your opponent, it is good to get outside and run through it as close to game speed as possible (makes it more familiar and comfortable once you get to the game).  With better weather in Texas, UMHB has been able to do that.

Now another factor to take into effect is the aspect that it is the 14th week of the season and any team still playing not only can practice very well, but is used to game speed and doesn't need to see it as much.

I think there could be pros and cons to both situations.

And for the record I don't think the cold will affect UMHB too much if any more than UWW.  Field conditions would have the largest effect, and since UMHB passes less than UWW (in our normal gameplan) than if anything, the cold/wet weather might effect UWW more.

Beaver was held to under 100 yds and the UWW passing game was working very nicely to open it up.  If UWW is not able to pass as well, doesn't that make you more one-dimensional???

I have not seen any other UWW game except for UMHB and last year's Stagg Bowl so I could be wrong here, but it is just some food for thought.
