I'll do it for you. What a jerk.

Well then, +karma to you, JF!

On another matter, JF, I was very disappointed to go to the MIAC site and see that you are giving out receipes for some sissy drink.  Here I thought you were a good ol Wisconsin beer drinking boy.  Can you imagine my dismay? :'(

Now that y'all will be playing MUC for the Stagg, I will have to admit that this may be your best chance yet.  Though Mount's run defense is unbelievable, there has been some reason to wonder about the secondary.  With your QB, you might have just the chance to keep Mount on their toes...a good running game to keep the defense honest, and a strong passing attack to take advantage of our secondary.  I'm not convinced it's enough to beat us, but I'd be a fool to say you didn't have a shot.  See you in Salem!

Wow.  They say y'all in Ohio too.  Who knew?

In my unbias opnion, no one and I mean no one can hold anything to the broadcast team of Gary Douglas, and Tom "Voice" Pattison. As they are the best, and part of a program thats going to play for the whole thing this Saturday.
Therefore I would like to present Voice, and Gary Douglas the WIAC Broadcast team of the year award.
Congrats Voice, and who really cares what they do at Oshkosh. However I think the fact that a member of the WIAC has a chance to win the national title would be something every school in the conference would take pride in. However I guess I am wrong but then again it is Oshkosh. Enough said.

Upon further review I take back calling downtown a jerk. Sorry downtown.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Mr_Downtown

Now there is a difference in what I do as a broadcaster, and what the PA announcer does at a home Oshkosh game.

We reported right away on our broadcast when Whitewater did defeat Mary Hardin Baylor in the semifinals. We also report all the scores, and what WIAC teams always do via Television and Radio.

But you cannot expect a PA announcer to declare over the PA system that Whitewater just beat Mary Hardin Baylor in the Semifinals. Seriously, the PA announcer is right. What Oshkosh fan cares? So if they win the national championship, does that mean as a team and program that is looking for a new coach, get to lose more players to Whitewater because we are inferior?

I don't think Oshkosh fans would like to hear Whitewater's football team, after their baseball team and volleyball teams in the past have beat us in the "Big Games". In all honesty, it's a hard spot for Oshkosh fans, and we do have a bit of jealousy in Whitewater for their post season success, while we...well...most know.

By the way, I don't really care for my karma, and it's okay if you want to call me a jerk. I'm just telling it the way it is, for pretty much any sport, for any level, professional or colleigiate.

Is it cool to see Whitewater in the National Championship game, yes. But for me, rooting for Whitewater is very much like rooting for Michigan if I was an Ohio State fan.  I do know, when to bite my tongue when I wear the suit and be a broadcaster. Believe it or not, it's possible to be a fan, and be a broadcaster.

Does watching Danny Jones make anyone else think of Scott Krause?

Yes, indeed... I saw the Krause era while I was in Point; he always seemed to kill teams with his scrambling and then breaking off a long run or two each game for a crucial first down...

I despise QBs who run though; probably harkens back to the old days, when Bobby Douglass of da Bears ran all over the Packers, as did a HOFer named Fran Tarkenton...  ;)

RE: announcing the Warhawks score: Before the Blugold women tipped off against the Eagles in hoops yesterday in La Crosse at 3, our fabulous radio announcer, during his pregame show, or thereabouts, gave an update and congratulated the Hawks after their win...

Yes, that is what it means but we don't have to win the national championship to do that, Downtown.  ;)

I agre with badgerwarhawk. The best recruiting tool for any one at the division three level is to be playing on NATIONAL TELEVISION like the Hawks are going to be doing for a third straight year. Whether they lsoe or not I trly believe the past three years success as well as the chance to play for a national title would want a kid to go to UW-Whitewater before UW-Oshkosh especially in football. Otherwise Danny Jones would have transferred to Oshkosh to be part of a very average college football program.

Wow.  They say y'all in Ohio too.  Who knew?

Just Bill...While "y'all" is said some in Ohio, it's not nearly as widespread as in Texas.  But, a little bit about myself.  I grew up in Rochester, NY, attended two years at Plattsburgh State University in NY (currently the co-#1 men's hockey team), transferred to Mount Union after two years and graduated with a Psychology degree, then attended seminary for the Episcopal Church in......Austin, Texas, then served a church in Corpus Christi, TX and currently live in NC.  So, though a definite yankee, I have lived all but a few months since 2000 in places that say "y'all".

Wow, probably WAY more information than you needed to know!   :)

Yes. It's also possible to be a broadcaster and comport one's self professionally on the board.

Mr. Ypsi

Mr. Downtown,

We in the CCIW despise one another during the season, but in the playoffs we are all CCIW.  BTW, I am a Michigan (grad school) alum, and I will be rooting for OSU in the BCS title game.  And although Millikin is 'scum incarnate' to an IWU guy of my era, I popped open a bottle of Champagne when they won the women's bball title.  Show a bit of conference pride!  Regardless of rivalries, not announcing the WW fball win was absolutely bush league by the announcer.  He may have been afraid that it would have provoked louder cheers than anything the home team did that night. ;)

Mr_Downtown

I understand where everyone is coming from, and in all honesty, this is one of the "50/50 splits" of sports fanhood. The topic of "my team lost, now who do I root for?"

Is that the discussion though? I mean, it started by someone noting that it wasn't a classy move on Oshkosh's PA announcer to not call out the Whitewater Football score. I was just noting, that it would be rare to ever hear a score called out in the first place (because they hardly do), then let it be a Whitewater beating a non-WIAC opponent, in the post-season. I wasn't the only one that noted Oshkosh's/Whitewater's rivalry.

My WIAC pride? I like the WIAC, and what the conference does as a whole. Do I like the NCAA? No. I think it's the world's biggest monoply. Do I love college sports? Yes, because I think you see more heart on the playing field/court then you do on the professional level.

With that being said, there are things about the WIAC that I love, and there are things about the WIAC that I don't particular like. I love the rivalry that is between Oshkosh and Whitewater across the board when it comes to athletics, but with what my eyes have seen between the two schools in Oshkosh (Baseball, and recently the Men's Soccer game), well...it's a bad-blood rivalry for a reason.

There are so many rivalries in sports, and they all range from gentleman contests (Harvard/Yale) to insane craziness (Red Sox/Yankees, Packers/Bears).

I'm sorry if I only root for UW-Oshkosh, mainly because it's the school I attend. Do I get pumped about big WIAC games in which I'm a geek and sit at my computer watching live stats, hoping that this game will lead to a bigger game against Oshkosh, yes. (Example, Stevens Piont vs Whitewater Men's Basketball)

In the end, with a new job I just got, my love for Oshkosh will have to reduce. Sorry if it seems that I'm defending myself. Oshkosh vs Whitewater generally does that to me :)

Best of luck for Whitewater fans against Mount Union. I'll watch you in HD, but don't expect me to root for ya!  ;) :D ;D

Hey, Mr. Downtown -

I hear you. You don't have to root for the Warhawks just because you are an Oshkosh/WIAC rooter. An analogy would be for Packer fans - those living in Green Bay, especially - to root for the Bears in the playoffs. That will never happen...  ;)
