Lets all be realistic here guys. Mount Unions skilled players are more then average Garcone was a man among boys last year, and the hawks didn't have anyone to stop him.
The game last year like every year was won in the trenches and Mount Union won't up front on defense for sure, and WW had some dam good O-linemen Lineman of the year.
I am not sure how good ww front five are this year as it seems that they have given up more sacks then the last couple years combined but. We will see as they are going against the best, and to be the best you gotta beat the best, and that's what the Warhawks are going to do this year.

I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Mount Union's skill players are average..... yeah, only on your madden create a team. Nate Kmic and Pierre Garcon are two of the best players in the country right now and their quarterback (Greg Michelli) was easily the gamebreaker for them last year. To me the real key to the game for the hawks is to

Defense
a. limit Kmic's run average to 3.3 yards or less (doable)
b. get pressure on Greg Michelli (doable)
c. do not let Michelli escape the rush (this is the hard part)
d. do not miss tackles on Pierre Garcon (doable)

Saying that you are going to shut down Pierre Garcon with coverage is a fantasy. They will find a way to get him the ball. What can't happen is letting him turn what should be a 5 yard completion into long touchdown runs. We match up well everywhere else. If we can find a way to keep Michelli from using his feet to buy more time then we'll be fine. It is not an easy task by any means but I think it would be easier to get to Michelli than it is to cover all of their receivers.

Offense
a. Sustain long drives (doable)
b. Capitalize on turnovers (doable)
c. Take care of the football (doable)

Offensively I would say to take what the defense gives you. As soon as you start forcing things that aren't there you will be in a hole. Rely on the strength of the run game/play action scheme and take care of the football. The main thing is to keep their defense on the field to tire them out and limit the opportunities of their great offense. If you keep hammering the defense with the run game and convert enough third downs, the defense will tire out and give you opportunities. In football, as in war, the less shots that are taken at you, the more likely you are to live.

Special teams

a. make kicks when presented (easier said than done I know, but essential nonetheless)
b. do not give up any blocks (definitely doable)
c. return yardage of less than 16 yds (doable)

Basically, no mental lapses and out effort them in this phase. Special teams is all about heart. You have to want it more than they do.

New to the board, just wanted to wish Whitewater the best of luck and bring home the title for the WIAC. I may have went to La Crosse but come playoff time it's all WIAC for me. If Whitewater can control the time of possession and keep Mount's offense to around 17 points I think they can win it.

Not meaning at all to be disrespectful but those are two really, really big ifs.

Not to be disrespectful either but it's doable even though its very difficult......like scoring 25 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

I believe I can say with quite a bit of confidence that I speak for most people who are IIAC college fans.

Good luck to Wisc. Whitewater.  We hope you take the D3 title this weekend.

Gave you a bit of +k luvin', uwlaxalum, as I thought it was a bit unfair that you got pinged for basically saying hello and wishing UWW luck.

(ps - it was retegant, a Johnnie, that came to your rescue.)

A break in the Stagg action...

Congrats to Pat Cerroni for being named head coach of the UW Oshkosh Titans after a good season as interem head coach. A great defensive mind, great motivator and great person to play for. There is not a guy I have more respect for. Best of luck to him and the Titans next season.

and now...the floor is open again for Stagg Bowl talk!

Saturday
Snow...sleet and freezing rain likely in the morning. Rain likely. Cooler with highs in the upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
Saturday Night
Rain likely in the evening. Cloudy with a chance of snow. Lows in the upper 20s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.

Any discussion about who the weather favors and why ?  I'd say WW.

I hope Cerroni's first action is to get an O-coordinator.

Could anything be better than Stagg Bowl week.  Well maybe getting rid off the AFCA all americans committee.  Is Helen Keller on that committe or Stevie Wonder.  No AJ Raebel, Brent Allen or Ryan Ogrizovich.  How about Kmic or Garcon?

Keys to the game:
Limiting Kmic to no big runs.
Containing Garcon
No TO's
Good special teams play

God I cant wait.  No Buffalo Bills this year.  GO HAWKS

U DUB-DUB,
I am around, but just barely. I had a stroke at work on Nov28 and have surgery tomorrow morning.  As much as a beverage together would be on my list of things to do Friday night I have a hunch it is not on my surgeons list for my recovery. Watching the game "will be" no matter what he says.
ONE FOR THE OTHER THUMB AS I HAVE SAID ALL YEAR. TRAVEL SAFE AND DRINK IRRESPONSIBLY FOR ME! LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT MEETING. ;)

I'm not necessarily sure it favors Whitewater, but they did show last week that they can play in less than ideal conditions.  If the ball starts getting slick, pushing team to the run, I have a feeling that may favor the Raiders.  Yes your back is a stud, but Mount Union's D-line has been having a fantastic year.  Beavers will still get some yards against Mount Union, but I'm not sure that it will be enough to top over Mount Union.  The wild card for me, is how well the Raiders O-line does against the Warhawks D-line.  From all accounts, UWW will be the best defense MUC has seen this year.  Will our guys be able to open holes for Kmic?  I sure hope so!
