I need to cook up a couple of dozen posts to get there myself.  I'd like to karma a few of you guys ...  :P
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Actuall BW I don't think anyone cares why he left Lakeland. Why should he is is by far the best OC UW-W has ever had. As he help lead them to the national title.
If he gets a HC job great for him, if not well he will just have to repeat what he has already done which is tough to do, but is still possible

The guy that you almost never hear about at Whitewater is Dinkel, the offensive line coach.......he does a great job year after year. He will have a tough job next year with losing the players they are losing but if anyone can do it Dink can.....

I wouldn't be so quick to say Coach Z is the best thing since sliced white bread for an OC. He did an adequate job not outstanding job in my educated opinion.  If you kept your eyes and ears open during games you would have seen some missed opportunities to capitalize on other teams weakness, inconsistencies in the attack, to conservative in some instances and at times there was quite a bit of grumbling regarding play calling from players and fans alike.
He was as was Coach Liepold a beneficary of a pretty well established team that had the heart of lions. Yes we can all say "National Champion" was the final result and that what counts. I totally agree with that arguement but next year will be the telling tale.

Stealth,
I have never met a fan or player who is ever totally happy with the play calling. As far as being consrvative, yiou do have to realize and admit that the defense was the teams true strentgh and you never want to put a defense that good in a bad stuation.
Yes both coach Zebrowski and Leipold took over a great situation, thanks to coach Berezowitz. However they accomplished something that coach Berezowitz and his staff were unable to do with some better players at certain positions especially on the offensive side of the ball at WR,and TE as both starters had or are playing in the NFL.
That in it self speaks volumes in my mind.
However next year will be the true telling sign, as this success should help some of the assistants get better opportunities as either head coaches, coordinators, or even in the NFL.
Any one on the UWW staff that would turn down a promotion would be a mistake,as people take notice when you have success, and thats what the Warhawks have had.

I think you just mirrored what I said. Can't argue with National Champion, inherited great D, QB that added the last peice of the offensive puzzle, etc. My point and yours is that next year is the true test. But I stand by my point that Coach Z was servicable but not WOW that guy can call a game material.

Good points, both of you.  I think most would agree that almost any decent offensive mind could have had a good year OC'ing the Warhawks in 2007.  With a top-notch O-line, a record setting RB, and Danny J stepping in, you have nearly all of the tools you would ever want.  Coach Z played it (or was carried along, if you prefer) all the way to Walnut and Bronze.

I would say there was clearly a "feeling out" period early in the year with Coach Z and DJ.  And prob'ly LL, as well.  And let's not forget Aaron Rusch asserting himself and becoming a force.  What ever happened to Jordan Wells, anyway?  He was hurt a little bit, then disappeared.

If Z can parley this past year into a HC gig, well, that's his right.  He has to get AT LEAST SOME credit, after all.  Clearly, we would all hope for stability in the coaching staff with the retooling that will have to be done on the line and in the backfield for 2008.  But, if he leaves - an opening at UWW would be USDA Prime for any hungry OC at a mid-level D3 school, so you would think LL would have some A+ applications ...

Wells in the St. Cloud game gave the coachs all the look they needed.

Just think a year ago WW had a new coach an C who thought he should have been given the job,and moved all his stuff out of his office and an O-line coach who followed him and did the same thing.
Some coaches would say okay don't let the door hit you on the way out LL, said he wanted everyone back. All but 2 returned one was expected and the other one didn't come back because of the one who everyone knew wasn't coming back left.
A lot of coaches clean house except for one or 2 guys and LL could have done that but he is not that way. I am not sure how much trust and respect he has of his staff but if I was there and he took over under the circumstances that were there and the results were what they were well I would respect and trust the crude out of him.
This year will be the true test, as a head coach what else does LL ahve to accomplish he already did something that Barry Alvarez never did as a head coach and thats win a national title. I don't care what level you are at thats impressive in your 1st year.

Anyone else notice the Kansas-V Tech game was similar in more than a few ways to the Stagg Bowl?  The underdog team, wearing their home uni, jumps out to a 17-0 lead, sees it narrow to 17-14, holds on until they can score a TD in the 4th to stretch the lead to 10.  The team all in white answers with a score to cut it to 24-21.  Kansas was about a foot away from a score that would have almost certainly made the final 31-21.

The game was played in quite a bit of rain, too.  It was like deja vu all over again.  :)

I noticed the similarities. After winning a TRUE National Championship which results from a legitimate play-off system, I have gotten the same feeling after watching every bowl game this year.  I look at the winner and think..................ya, that is nice............... but all you really won was a bowl game!    ;) :D ;D

Although I agree with the tone of your sentiments, They haven't JUST won a Bowl Game. They've gotten a big payday for their schools. That's what it's all about. Until you can convince the ADs etc that they would get as big a payday with maybe 32 teams playing in a playoff system it won't happen. I think I read where there were 32 bowl games this year which means 64 payouts. Good Luck!

On the Tony Bruno radio show yesterday they had someone on, can't remember his name, but anyway was saying not having a playoff in DI is about control of power not about money. They could easily pool the money that they get from advertisers, NCAA, etc and set it up on a 32 team tiered payoff system. Example and I'm trying to capture the thought, say there is a total of 100 million in the pool, the first round winners/losers gets a chunk and on it goes so the winner of the tournament gets 10 million, something like that.  That way if you have no realistic chance of winning the tournament you still get a nice payday. Makes sense to me if it is about money not about power.
