There are several events planned this Saturday at UW-W as the day is National Women in Sports Day.   You've got the women and men's basketball games against Eau Claire and a gymnastics meet which is a fundraiser for a former WARHAWK gymnast who is battling cancer.

I am a two time winner of the Dad Who Does the Most for Girl's & Women in Sports Award.  Got a pair of fancy certificates to prove it.   :D  :D

I know it pales in comparison to Mr Downtown's glory but it's all I've got.

I have two sons, but if I had two daughters, I would hope that my committment would aspire to yours. Congrats, and good luck with this good cause.

Maybe its just me but am I the only one that doesnt understand why John O Grady is being inducted into the hall of fame.  98-89 is really not that great of a record with one WIAC championship.  That is just my opinion

It would appear that this group inducts a very high number of people every year.  I see WIAA people and sportswriters on the list - not sure I understand that logic.

Bear in mind these induction ceremonies can be a fundraiser as much as anything else, so a large roster means a lot of guests and a lot of meals purchased.

I like to see Hall of Fame inductions after a coach (or player) completes their run like they do in baseball.  If you induct a guy one year and then he gets sent to the slammer the next year for selling locker room pictures or something, you look stupid.  We just had a coach arrested in the area here for ... ahem, some improper acts ...
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Now, this award I am impressed with.  Maybe you should include it in all your quotes from now on-----at least on the women's board.  Seriously, congrats. BW.  The award does not surprise me.

Maybe I am seeing things but why is Derek Stanley running track for UWW?  Doesnt he have a NFL career to worry about.

I would think working out with a track team and attempting to improve one's speed would benefit your NFL career.

working out with a track team and competing are 2 totally different things especially if he is jumping, dont know to many kick returners that need to be able to long jump..  But i could be wrong.

John O has done many great things with the River Falls program and the wishbone attack.  The River Falls team was devastating before the 2001 season from my understanding.  His record shows before 2001, 1 season with a record below 500%.  If you are winning more than losing in the WIAC, my hat is off to you.

You are not seeing things.  Derek Stanley is competing in track at UW-W this season.  He's returned to school to finish his degree work and still had track eligibility left so he decided to participate.  I think it's a good thing that he's returned to finish his degree as well.

I don't see how it can hurt his football career unless he were to injure himself.   It's good cardio and he has access to what might be the best weight room in the state.

If I understood correctly he's already qualified for the national meet.

28, I am with you on this one. It seems like working out with Torie Holt and Isaac Bruce would be more beneficial than doing the long jump at Whitewater......Whatever he does in the off season I wish him well.....

Man, if he was consistently winning 500% of his games, he's a HoFer in my book! ;D

Stanley's 23-foot long jump provisionally qualifies him for nationals. He would need to go 23' 9" for an auto mark.

There's a lot of track season left, but it's questionable whether he needs to go longer to qualify. The last 2007 national qualifier in the long jump had a 23' 2".
