My knowledge about the rule came from when Kyle Haug and Matt Buenning had work outs for the NFL scouts the same afternoon that UW had theirs in March2004. Buenning was going to do his in Madison. However he was told that his hometown ahd to be within so many miles from Madison or attend Madison to participate in their pro day.
Stanley is from Verona and worked out in Madison as John Stocco was throwing him balls,as the scouts watched in Madison.
I am not sure of the mile radius but this info was given to Buenning by soemone at UW. So it has to be elgit. If someone can show me information that states otherwise I am cool with it not being true.
The guys from Stout worked out at Whitewater with Schmidt I believe last year.

GO AJ AND BEAV!!!!!

Yep, the Stout boys were down in Whitewater around this time last year for their pro day. My guess is that this info was given to Buenning because Madison didn't want him testing out there for whatever reason. It could also be Madison's policy but it seems more likely to be personal than to have such an obscure policy.

Good call Footballfan413 on the D3 to NFL thing. On that same note, congrats to the St. Olaf and MIAC community.

BTW anyone know any information on Pierre Garcon's draft chances?

No problem with big heads, just thought that I hadn't heard of many coaches jumping from DIII directly to the NFL, let alone based on Stagg Bowl Victories.

Well, there you go........DIII coach to the NFL!  Apparently it can happen.   ;)

I do understand that it can happen and it does from time to time.

Warhawk 96, for what it's worth, check out NFLDraftScout. The five year average for WR's drafted is 33/year, with 37 in 2003 being the highest during this period. Also, including FA's, they say approximately 110 WR will make it to a NFL camp. They said that 160 WR in their rankings got at least to camp or had a tryout last year.  BTW, Garcon is currently listed at #46 with an up arrow following his name indicating his stock is rising.  Interesting sidenote, WR Paul Hubbard from the Badgers, a guy who had a hard time catching a cold, let alone a perfectly thrown pass right in his hands (or simply staying healthy), is taking up the #22 spot on the chart.

No problem, Kirasdad.  Just a friendly little poke in the ribs.  You did say, "I hadn't heard of many DIII coaches jumping to the NFL." I just thought it was ironic having it happen so close to our conversation on the subject.

96,  I believe that Garcon has been invited to the NFL combine like Michael Allen was last year. Kirasdad, should be able to confirm that.   Indicates to me that he is being looked at pretty hard and will be given a prime opportunity to put up some big numbers there.  An invite gives a DIII player more credibilty.   I wouldn't be surprised to see him go the same route that Derek did.   But, I believe that as Derek, if drafted, it would be more for his special teams skills and not as just a pure WR.

But as frank uible always reminds us, the odds of a DIII player getting drafted are never very good.

413, your right on about Garcon being invited to the NFL Combine...I forgot to mention that in my little bit...if you look strictly at the current numbers, he's probably a bit too low on the list to get drafted, however, D. Stanley was also under that threshold last year and he did get drafted. I agree, a good performance at the Combine could awaken a few teams to put him on their draft boards.

Yup, BoBo, that was my point.   Derek was not drafted as a pure WR, in fact he was ranked 64th on the list at time, statistically not where he need to be. (top 33)  Derek made it through his special teams skills and that maybe Garcon's best way in as well.

Thanks BG,  I looked for that list but not very hard.   ;)

On a positive note.....2007 Championship Game arrived in the mail yesterday......only need 2005 to complete the set and still waiting on that one. Garcon should fit into the NFL just fine.....He is very fast, good hands and classless as well as obnoxious....I hope he is knocked senseless his first day of camp where ever it is.....

Detman and UW are very picky on who they will let come and work out at their pro day.  Im guessing Detman doesnt want anyone coming that he hasnt trained or that doesnt have a legit shot at making it to the next level..  I think the 30 mile rule might be something that UW has to protect themselves from having every player that thinks they have a shot from our WIAC schools to come in and not preform well and give UW and Detman and bad showing..

That is purely specultion but those are my thoughts..

ROTFLMAO

I know I probably should wish all DIII players good luck in their attempt to take their games to the next level but in this case I just can't.   I don't wish him any ill will but I wouldn't mind seeing him fall flat on his face.   Sorry about that.

He'll probably go on to a HOF career just to spite me for saying that.  :D

If Derek and Michael Allen got drafted there is basically no way Garcon wont, baring injury or some unforeseen event.  People might not like the guy but he is without a doubt the top talent to come out of DIII since Tony Beckham, who was a 4th round pick.  Also I can't believe that Paul Hubbard is the 22nd ranked WR, that ranking either means this is the worst WR class ever or the list is complete garbage.

Sakman 1111

I don't believe anyone will argue the fact that Garcon has the talent but I doubt that anyone on the team from the last three years would also argue the fact that he is a classless jerk and who cares when and if he gets drafted.....
