I cannot think of a more emotionally damaging sequence of events, than to be surrounded by well-wishers, waiting for a call that never comes.

Indian, you don't know Justin Beaver.    Having his father die at age 17 was an "emotionally damaging" event.  Yet he was able to overcome it and flourish.  This was a relative walk in the park.  He may have been embrarassed and this sort of thing may have drove you to depression but in the end he'll use it as motivation.   There wasn't anyone there who wasn't aware of the fact the odds were against him.

It's just Old Indian trying to create angst.....I agree that it is a real longshot that he will make the Packers but I have learned not to bet against him in this area over the last 4 years.....

Let's be clear.
I never said Justin wouldn't recover.
I never said he wouldn't make the NFL.

I simply said that having a "draft party" for a guy who is unlikely to be drafted was an asinine idea, and the person who came up with it should apologize to Justin.

You said, "I can not think of a more emotionally damaging sequence of events.," and I simply pointed out that relatively speaking while it may be "emotionally damaging" to you it won't be to him.  Being embrarassed is a far cry from being "emotionally damaged."

I don't know who's idea it was but what if it was his grandparents' way of rewarding him knowing how hard he worked to put himself in the position he's in.  His family, teammates and friends celebrating his career and whether he was actually drafted or not was, in a sense, secondary.   Without knowing any of the circumstances it seems premature to suggest someone apologize.

Old Indian, considering you just drop by here now and again to commit a drive-back criticism of anything "Warhawk," maybe it is you who need to apologize.  Come back to post on here some time when you have something positive to contribute to the board.

Old Indian, I like to tell it how it is.  You're a douche bag.

I would like to know who was responsible for not only conducting a Justin Beaver Draft Party, but inviting the entire State of Wisconsin to attend.

I cannot think of a more emotionally damaging sequence of events, than to be surrounded by well-wishers, waiting for a call that never comes.

Isn't this one of Dante's nine circles of hell?

Packer fans, did you all forget what happened to Aaron Rodgers?  Has he ever recovered from his Green Room wait?

Be honest.  What were the chances that Beaver would get drafted?  1 in 10?

The person responsible for the "let's throw a draft party" idea owes Justin a big apology.

The get-together was a draft/free agent party, as was referred to in each blog Sunday on www.warhawkfootball.com. The party was being held at Gametime in downtown Milwaukee due to the anticipated size of the gathering.  It was originally scheduled to be held in his hometown of Palmyra.  Oh by the way, the "entire state of Wisconsin" was not invited.  A few former teammates, a few Warhawk fans, but mainly relatives and close friends were in attendance.

Gee Old Indian - having a get-together to join WIAC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and NCAA Divison III's Player of the Year while he waited for a call from and NFL team - I hope you DO FIND OUT who threw the party - they should be congratulated!!

Thanks for your concern Old Indian - its nice to have knowledgeable conversation though.

Yet "the voice" wrote in his blog...

"If you are a Warhawk fan, feel free to stop by Gametime Sports Bar here in downtown Milwaukee. It is located just across 4th Street from the Bradley Center.

The party will be going on all afternoon."

Stat of the day in a pre-draft blurb in the Chicago Tribune about former UW-River Falls running back Owen Schmitt:
"Fifth round: Owen Schmitt, fullback, West Virginia: This is a throwback player who could add a physical dimension to an offense with his impressive blocking. He also has value as a runner in the Mike Alstott mold. This is all you need to know about Schmitt: he broke 10 face masks over the last three years."

I think he may have killed someone had he remained in our league.  ;) :D

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Good luck to the Beav this weekend.  I hope he makes it.

Speaking of LB's for the vikings, this from the Tribune website (J Leman is the brother of 2000 CCIW POY JD Leman from Wheaton College):

A few weeks ago, the Minnesota Vikings flew J Leman in for a predraft visit. So he wasn't surprised he became a Viking on Sunday after being passed over in the NFL draft.

"I kind of felt they were the favorites," the former Illinois middle linebacker said after agreeing to a free-agent deal Sunday night.

"I feel like I'm in a good place and Minnesota is where I wanted to go," Leman said.

The Vikings, who play a 4-3 defense, had only five draft choices and didn't spend one on a linebacker because it's one of their strongest positions. E.J. Henderson, who led the Vikings with 118 tackles last season, is ensconced at middle linebacker.

But without other rookies ahead of him, Leman will get a better chance to make a mark on special teams.

"They didn't draft a linebacker and they're not going to sign any other linebackers," Leman said after speaking to the Vikings.

Good Luck to Mr Reabel with the Vikes - as well as other players who went FA. It will maybe give me more of a reason to root for my "Home" team, which has been getting increasingly harder in recent years.
