Here is some off season football news to get the board going. Just read on another board, (second hand info,)  that Lindy's 2008 Football Preview is out and they have ranked the top two teams as follows:

  MUC   #1
  UW-W  #2

Is is really that time of the year that the name Lindy's becomes the most often quoted sports publication on the planet? I'm not real knowledgeable about them, but do they do anything besides putting out the first college football polls of the spring...I mean besides the college football writers from ESPN, USA Today, CBS Sportsline, SI, etc, etc, that have nothing better to do in the "off-season?"  ;)

Guess old habits are hard to break.   ;D  Haven't seen it myself but I trust the posting source.  I am sure it is because of our graduating 23 seniors that have been the biggest part of the run the last 3 years but last year the Hawks dropped in many polls below #2 despite being National Runner-Up because of the graduating talent of 06 and new coaching staff and we all know how that turned out.  Seemed to weather that season of transition pretty well.    ;)

Which board?  I couldn't find them in PP so I've been hitting google the last 15 minutes and couldn't find the rankings on the interwebs either.

North Coast Athletic Conference thread on the North Region board posted by a Wabash poster.  Said that Wabash was ranked #7.  He only mentioned those 3 teams so I don't have any idea about the full ranking.  I checked the Liddy's site before I posted that info also but they wanted you to buy the mag so couldn't confirm the rankings on the net either and running out to Barnes and Noble hasn't gotten to the top of my to-do list yet.    ;D

UW-WHITEWATER football schedule is complete.  Neither Eau Claire nor WHITEWATER had been able to schedule a third nonconference opponent so once again WIAC teams will face each other twice.  The first game (9/13) in Eau Claire will be the conference meeting and the second nonconference game will be played in Perkins Stadium on November 1st.

The schedule is as follows:

9/5 - St Xavier
9/13 -  @ Eau Claire (conference)
9/20 - Bye
9/27- @ University of Puget Sound
10/4- LaCrosse
10/11- @ River Falls
10/18- Oshkosh
10/25- Stevens Point
11/1- EauClaire (nonconference)
11/8- Stout
11/15- @ Platteville

Although this is not what the WIAC teams want playing each other twice. This actually happens quite a bit inthe scholarship level of NAIA football which because they offer scholarships are a step above d3 and a step below division 2.
Maybe the WIAC should contact the Dakota Atheltic conference and see how they work this as maybe they can change it for two years and some of the teams from the DAC can play the WIAC teams.

Give me a flippin' break.  Just because NAIA schools can offer some book money and a parking pass doesn't mean they play a superior brand of ball.  There are very few NAIA schools (besides Carroll) have the cash to offer the full allotment of 24 scholarships and most are probably not in the teens.

Do you know what the D3/NAIA head to head was the past two years?

You could say the ame thing about some fo the division 2 schools in minnesota especially sicne they cancelled the border battle after the WIAC schools destroyed them in the "boarder battle" Yet they still offer scholarships.
I know some kids who go to NAIA schools and they get more then book money and a parking pass. They get full scholarships. Some NAIA schools need to give some kids 1/2 scholarships like smaller d1 sports do. However they give scholarships, and d3 schools don't and kids know a days want scholarships. I don't know all of the facts but I do know they give scholarships, and that d3 schools do not.

And how does this support your view that NAIA is a step above D3?

MSU,

I'm not disputing the fact that NAIA schools "can" offer scholarship money but I doubt that the great majority of NAIA football schools are even close to the full allotment of 24 scholarships.

So if you have NAIA schools that have 12-16 scholarships to split up over a roster of 70-85 players then me thinks that the financial aid packages that D3 schools offer are just as competitive as NAIA schools when it all shakes out.

Anyway my original point is that I don't think that the NAIA is a "step above" D3 at all and with D3 having a 21-8 record this past year vs the NAIA ( 23-8 in 2006) adds some backing to my opinion.

I have to agree with Wildcat on this one even if he does tend to call a fairground grandstands a dome. :)  ;)  j/k, wild one.   A program isn't necessarily a step above DIII simply because it offers scholarships.  In fact DIII routinely beats it's NAIA competition despite the disadvantage as has already been pointed out.

Okay,
Well if the WIAC contacts the DAC maybe they can solve the porblem of not having any non conference games. As they play a conference team twice as well and have since they started.

Ha! +1 Badger.  At lease we don't need a DLK to give away tickets to get students to come out to the games!  ;)

msubeavers

+ karma x 20000 for you wildcat. If it wasn't for DLK WW would not be able to claim that they have the best facilities in division three. Much less give away tickets to college students to get them to come to games. Not to mention pay for a plane for a trip to texas in 2006 b/c a certain OC at uww refused to talk to the DC. So they took an offensive plane and a defensive plane thanks to financial support of DLK.
I am saying this as an alum of UWW. Know only if DLK put as much money into his housing for college students as he does the athletic facilities it would not be as big of a joke.As his apartments and houses leave a lot to be desired.

DL who?  ???

Ok, you've got me there.
